  • A solver for icing and condensation of water has been developed. The phase change process was solved by the enthalpy method. For the code validation, the temperature and the phase change from water to ice of the driven cavity were calculated. Also, the melting process of the frost on the windshield glass of an automobile has been simulated. The calculation showed a good agreement with analytical solution and other numerical results. Using the present validated code, the condensation of water vapor has been first tried. The computed results provided some physical features of condensation phenomena even though experimental data and other numerical data were not available. For future work, it is recommended to throughly investigate the effects of boundary conditions on the solution.

  • Cavitating flow simulation is of practical importance for many engineering systems, such as marine propellers, pump impellers, nozzles, injectors, torpedoes, etc. The present work has focused on the simulation of cavitating flow past cylinders with strong side flows. The governing equation is the Navier-Stokes equation based on the homogeneous mixture model. The momentum and energy equation is in the mixture phase while the continuity equation is solved liquid and vapor phase, separately. An implicit dual time and preconditioning method are employed for computational analysis. For the code validation, the results from the present solver have been compared with experiments and other numerical results. A fairly good agreement with the experimental data and other numerical results have been obtained. After the code validation, the strong side flow was applied to include the wake flow effects of the submarine or ocean tide.

  • In the case of the large motors which can't direct load tests, IEEE 112 equivalent circuit test was selected instead of the circle diagram method in the newly KEPIC's code. According to the change of code, Hyosung established an equivalent circuit test method based on Standard IEEE 112. In this paper, we compared the test results between IEEE 112 and other standards, CSA C-390, JEC2137 for the large motors.

  • The subchannel analysis capability of MARS, a multi-dimensional thermal-hydraulic system code, has been enhanced. In particular, the turbulent mixing and void drift models for the flow-mixing phenomena in rod bundles were improved. Then, the subchannel analysis feature was combined with the existing coupled system thermal-hydraulics (T/H) and 3D reactor kinetics calculation capability of MARS. These features allow for more realistic simulations of both the hot channel behavior and the global system T/H behavior. Using the coupled features of MARS, a coupled analysis of a main steam line break (MSLB) is carried out for demonstration purposes. The results of the calculations are very reasonable and promising.

  • In designing rock-socketed drilled shaft, bearing capacity evaluation is very important because the maximum values of base and side resistance are not generally mobilized at the same value of displacement, FHWA and AASHTO code suggest different ultimate bearing capacity formular according to rock type and shaft settlement. In domestic code suggest base resistance and side resistance can be added on condition that after confirming the result of field load test with axial load transfer test. This paper shows that static load test and hi-directional load test result analysis of deep rock-socketed drilled shaft in three different sites. Load-settlement curve, t-z, and q-w curve in rock-socketed part were calculated and compared. t-z curve in weathered and soft rock showed no deflection softening behavior in pretty large strain (about 2-3% of diameter). Ultimate resistance could be the summation of side resistance and base resistance in rock-socketed drilled shaft in domestic sites.

  • The present work was undertaken to numerically analyze the defrosting phenomena of windshield glass. In order to analysis the phase change from frost to water on windshield glass by discharging hot air from a defroster nozzle, the flow and the temperature field of the cabin interior, the heat transfer through the windshield glass, and the phase change of frost should be solve simultaneously. In the present work, the flow field was obtained by solving 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, and the temperature field was computed from the incompressible energy equation. The phase change process was solved by the enthalpy method. For the code validation, the temperature and the phase change of the driven cavity were calculated. The calculation showed a good agreement with other numerical results. Then, the present code was applied to the defrosting problem of a real automobile, and a good agreement with the experimental data was also obtained.

  • This study includes noise automatic inspection system for washing machine auto-transmission one of modern home necessary. We effort to find and certificate sound noise source by sound power and sound intensity, and apply to frequency analysis in vibration related sound noise. still more we have been studying to data acquisition and programming for MS VisualBasic version 5.0. System component is below. 1) Pentium PC or data acquisition. 2) DSO for noise acquisition. 3)S/W for comparison and decision. 4) I/F Board for data communication. Wave form data through the DSO are converting to ASCII code data. The ASCII code through binary converting S/W. Finally we will making noise monitoring system and automatic inspection system.

  • For quite a long time various researches and developments of superconducting magnetic energy storage(SMES) device for enhancement of power quality control of sensitive electric toad. This paper describes the design, fabrication and experimental results for the 3MJ SMES magnet made by using the design code of a SMES device that we developed. A computer code was developed to find the parameters of the SMES magnet which has minimum amount of superconductors for the same stored energy, and the 3MJ SMES magnet was designed based upon that.

  • Electromagnetic forming (EMF) technology, which is one of the high speed forming methods, has been used for the forming process in various industry fields. Numerical approach by finite element simulation of the EMF process is presented in this study. The implicit code is used to obtain the numerical model of the time-varying currents that are discharged through the coil in order to obtain the transient magnetic forces. In addition, the body forces generated in the workpiece are used as the loading condition to analyze deformation of thin sheet metal workpiece using explicit code. Numerical approach for a dimpled shape by EMF process is carried out and the simulated results of the dimpled shape by EMF are reviewed in view of the deformed shape and formability evaluation.
