  • Automobile tire has very complicated shape and is composed of rubber, steel cord and ply cord, Tread pattern of tire is very essential for the basic characteristics of tire, such as braking, acceleration and comfortableness. Tire components such as tread, sidewall, and spex are prepared by forcing uncured rubber compound through an extruder to shape during curing process. Because of its complexity of shape, adaptive mesh refinement was used for the analysis of tire tread. Effects of forming variables were evaluated.

  • Various silanes, amino silane, vinyl silane, TESPD, and ZS (TESPD/zinc soap complex), are added into chlorinated isobutylene-isoprene copolymer (CIIR)/hard clay/carbon black (CB) compound and they are investigated with respect to the vulcanization characteristics, the processability, and the mechanical properties. In hard clay/CB filled system, only ZS silane added compound shows both lower Mooney viscosity and extrusion torque while vinyl silane added compound showed only a lower extrusion torque. All the ZS added compounds showed the lowest viscosity among them. The silane added compounds showed an increased modulus. In 'fatigue to failure' count test, the ZS added compound showed superior counts compared to other silane (amino, vinyl, TESPD) added compounds. The mechanical properties were significantly increased when the S2 and ZS were added into CIIR/hard clay/CB compound. The ZS added compounds showed a significant improvement on elongation modulus.

  • The dielectric propertries of polymers are very important to investigate the molecular structure of polymer. The characteristrics of the dielectric absorption in vulcanized natural rubber were studied in the range of frequency from 10[KHz] to 32[MHz] at the temperature of 25[$^{\circ}C$]. As the results. it has been confirmed that in the case of natural ruber vulcanized between 2 and 4phr the specimens exhibit two kind of dielectric losses due to the dipole polarization by impurites and sulfure, and of above 7phr was only a loss due to the dipole polarization by sulfure and of natural rubber exhibit two kind of losses due to the interfacial and the dipole polarization. Furthermore, dielectric loss maximun tan spectrum, which removed to the low frequency according to increasing sulfure, depends greatly on sulfure. The volume resistivity of $10^{7}$~$10^{11}$[$\Omega\cdot$cm], regardness whether the crosslinking of rubber are tired by sulfure or, was observed.

  • The determination method of successful operation conditions to control the temperature and pressure in autoclave after non-taping vulcanization process was represented. Heat and mass balances were constructed to predict the mass flow rates of air, steam, and condensed water into or from autoclave when the temperature and pressure in the autoclave were to be controlled in the desired profiles. The balance equations were solved by appropriate mathematics, and the solution was applied to an autoclave system where the temperature and pressure were linearly decreased. The resulting solutions were illustrated in graphs.

  • The vulcanization characteristics, physical and electrical properties have been measured for magnetite-loaded CM compounds containing various concentration of magnetite. Samples of the various concentration of magnetite are characterized by oscillating disk rheometer, mooney viscometer, tensometer and resistance meter. The morphology and dispersion of magnetite are analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results obtained are as follows : 1. The CM compound without magnetite shows plain curve, while the CM compounds containing magnetite show short curves. 2. The maximum volume of magnetite is 600 phr in the CM compounds. The magnetite of 30 to 150 phr of magnetite act as reinforcement agents and the 50 phr magnetite shows maximum tensile strength. 3. The electric conductivity is mostly influenced by the conditions of temperature, compacting pressure, and magnetite orientation. Further efforts should be made to develop a new design in various electric conductivity fillers for the most efficient and applicable rubber products.

  • Graphene oxide (GO)/carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubber (XSBR) nanocomposites with various contents of GO were prepared by a latex compounding method. It has been confirmed that the functional groups of GO and the hydrogen bonds between GO and XSBR are existed. It can be seen that the scorch time ($t_{s2}$), which is the measurement of incipient vulcanization of rubber, showed a delay after the addition of GO. Field emission scanning electron microscopy was employed to confirm the uniform dispersion of filler in the matrix. Indeed, with increasing fillers loading, the torque, tensile strength, thermal stability and crosslink density of obtained nanocomposites were improved. These results were correlated to the better dispersion of fillers through the rubber matrix.

  • Organo bifunctional silane (TESPD) is added into silica containing NR and its effects are investigated with respect to the vulcanization properties, the processability, and the physical properties. The addition of the TESPD into silica filled NR compound increases the degree of crosslinking by formation of a strong 3-dimensional network structure with silica surface via coupling reaction, which results in an improved mechanical property. It also improves the processabilities compared to the Control compound.

  • The dielectric properties of natural rubber are very important to investigate the molecular structure. The charcteristics of the dielectric absorption in aging natural rubber were studied in the range of frequency from $1{\times}10^3Hz\;to\;3.2{\times}10^7Hz$ at the temperature of $23^{\circ}C$. As the results, it has been confirmed that in the case of aged NR vulcanized specimen with contained sulfur 2 phr above the specimens exhibit two kind of dielectic losses due to the the dipole polarization by impurities and sulfurs, and of raw rubber exhibit the kind of losses due the to dipole polarization. Particularly, it has been affirmed that the dielectric loss spectrum of the aging natural rubber is larger than that the natural rubber, and the dielectric strength of the aging natural rubber drop depreciate respctively.

  • The effect of curing temperature increase and sulfur amount added were studied with natural and synthetic rubbers. Also, the effects of TMTD, MBTS and mixture of zinc soaps of high molecular fatty acids added to natural rubber were investigated respectively. The experimental results showed that, in the case of the conventional curing ($145^{\circ}C$), natural rubber, compared with synthetic rubber, gave higher values in elongation, tensile strength, cure rate, and lower values in modulus change. But, at high temperature curing ($180^{\circ}C$), natural rubber showed faster reversion rate, and higher heat build-up compared to synthetic rubber, than in the conventional curing. Also, natural rubber produced at high temperature showed severe degradation in hardness and tensile strength before heat-aging as well as in hardness, modulus and tensile strength after heat-aging. Improved reversion effect was obtained with natural rubber either by blending mixture of zinc soaps of high molecular acids or by applying semi-efficient vulcanization system.
