We prepared γ-alumina beads using the amorphous alumina, obtained by fast calcination of gibbsite, and its were immersed in aqueous solution of the mixture of 21.87% nitric acid and 28.57% acetic acid. The beads thus were hydrothermaly treated at 200$^{\circ}$C for 3h, and were investigated changes of crystal, pore characteristics, $N_2$ adsorption and desorption isotherms, mechanical strengths and thermal resistance. Acicular platelet crystals of 0.1∼0.3${\mu}$m were transformed into acicular boehmite crystals of 1∼2${\mu}$m having the same crystal structure. Through this changes, we found that reversible phase transformation due to hydrothermal reaction took placed between boehmite and ${\gamma}$-alumina. In comparison to the ${\gamma}$-alumina bead before hydrothermal treatment, $N_2$ adsorption capacity was increased from 450㎖/g to 670㎖/g, and pore volume between 100${\AA}$ and 1000${\AA}$ was increased form 0.15㎖/g to 0.77㎖g, and mechanical strength was increased form 1.4MPa to 2.2MPa. Also, it showed the remarkable thermal resistance which sustained ${\theta}$-alumina crystal structure and pores between 100${\AA}$ and 1000${\AA}$ at 1000$^{\circ}$C in 40vol% steam.

Adsorption experiments of carbon dioxide were performed on ZSM5 and Molecular Sieve 13X (MS13X) impregnated with Monoethanol Amine (MEA). Adsorption efficiency of $CO_2$ was investigated in a U type packed column with GC/TCD. The adsorption capacities of adsorbents are estimated in the temperature range of $30-80^{\circ}C$. The modified adsorbents was characterized by BET surface area, $N_2$ adsorption/desorption isotherms, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR. Surface analysis results showed that the impregnation method did not affect the crystallinity of any adsorbents. BET surface area of the MS13X impregnated amine decreased to $19.945m^2/g$ from $718.335m^2/g$. These reults showed that amine molecules were filled with the pore volume in MS13X, as a results restricting access of nitrogen into the pores. The MEA modified MS13X showed improvement in $CO_2$ adsorption capacity over the ZSM5 impregnated with MEA. The MS13X-MEA showed the highest adsorption capacity due to physical adsorption and chemical adsorption by amino-group content. This results also showed that adsorption capacity of MS13X-MEA increases with the temperature range of $60-80^{\circ}C$ compared with pristine MS13X.

As an activation procedure, in this study, the oxidation treatment of needle cokes with a dilute nitric acid and sodium chlorate $(NaClO_3)$, combined with heat treatment, was attempted. The structures of acid-treated and pyrolyzed coke were examined with XRD, FESEM, elemental analyzer, BET, and Raman spectroscopy. The behavior of double layer capacitance was investigated with the analysis of charge and discharge. The structure of needle coke treated with acid was revealed to a single phase of (001) diffraction peak after 24 h. On the other hand, thecoke oxidized by heat treatment was reduced to a graphite structure of (002) at $300^{\circ}C$. The distorted graphene layer structure, derived from the process of oxidation and reduction of the inter-layer, makes the pores by the electric field activation at the first charge, and generates the double layer capacitance from the second charge. The cell using pyrolyzed coke with 24 h acid treatment and $300^{\circ}C$ heat treatment exhibited the maximum capacitance per weight and volume of 33 F/g and 30 F/mL at the two-electrode system in the potential range of 0~2.5 V.

In order to use as weight-reduced sintered parts for automobiles, mechanical properties of sintered compacts of 2712 Al-alloys containing 0, 10, 20, and 33% ceramics, respectively, were investigated in this study. (1)Regardless of ceramic contents, all sintered compacts possessed 4~7% pores. (2)After aging the compacts sintered for 12 minutes, tensile strength of the 2712 Al-alloys containing 0, 10, 20, and 33% ceramics was 165, 260, 256, and 166 N/$mm^2$, respectively, whereas those aged after sintering for 30 minutes exhibited the tensile strength of 186, 229, 219, and 202 N/$mm^2$, respectively. In addition, the 2712 sintered compact containing 10% ceramics showed the maximum elongation of about 3.6%, (3)After aging the 10% ceramic-containing sintered compacts reached a maximum apparent hardness ($H_RF$) of 97. (4)The minimum wear volume ($174{\times}10^{-3}mm^3$) was shown in the 10% ceramic-containing 2712 sintered compact after aging. From these results, the 2712 sintered compact containing 10% ceramics thought to be the most suitable one for the fabrication of aluminum engine part.
Most of land reclamation projects are being implemented along the south and west coastal lines of the Korean Peninsula. The earth structures and in-ground LNG tank, and buildings can be constructed using artificial freezing method on the reclaimed land to control the uplift pressure caused by capillary forces. In this study, upon freezing a saturated soil in a closed-system from the top, a considerable frost heaving pressure was developed. Decomposed granite soils, silty soil, and sandy soil were used in the laboratory freeze test which is sometimes subjected to thermal gradients under closed-systems. A major concern has been the ability to predict the frost heaving pressure over the results of relatively short-term laboratory tests. The frost heaving pressure arising within the soil samples and the temperature of the samples inside were monitored with time elapse. The degree of saturation versus heaving pressure curve is presented for each soil sample and the maximum pressure is closely related to this curve. TDR apparatus was used to measure the volumetric water content by the measurement of unfrozen water contents of frozen soils. Unfrozen water increased in soils containing a high percentage of fine-grained particles. In fine-grained soils with strong attractive farces between soil grains and water molecules, additional water is attracted into the pores leading to further volume changes and ice segregation.
We investigated the properties of impregnated activated carbons, a commercial adsorbent for the individual protection equipment, and examined CO adsorption and oxidation to $CO_2$. The surface area, pore volume and pore size were measured for four commercial samples using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller/Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BET/BJH), and atomic compositions of the sample surface were analyzed based on SEM/EDS and XPS. Impregnated activated carbons containing Mn and Cu for fire showed the catalytic CO oxidation to $CO_2$ with a high catalytic activity (up to 99% $CO_2$ yield), followed by the CO adsorption at an initial reaction time. On the other hand, C: for chemical biologial and radiological (CBR) samples, not including Mn, showed a lower CO conversion to $CO_2$ (up to 60% yield) compared to that of fire samples. It was also found that a heat-treated activated carbon has a higher removal capacity both for CO and $CO_2$ at room temperature than that of untreated carbon, which was probably due to the impurity removal in pores resulted in a detection-delay about 30 min.

White layer cakes with 10-50% content of domestic millet and waxy millet were carried out to determine how the content of millet and waxy millet affected Quality and properties of a product. The 10% content of waxy millet resulted in the greatest volume, which decreased with the increase in the content of millet and waxy millet; up to 40% content of millet and waxy millet made no significant difference in weight from the control one. The specific loaf volume decreased with the increase in the content of millet and waxy millet. In terms of crum color, as the content of millet and waxy millet increased, the value of L tended to decrease, making it darker, and there was a significant increase in the value of a and b. As for crust color, the value of L, a, and b tended to increase with the increase in the content of millet and waxy millet, making it darker, but with no significant difference from the control one. In terms of texture, 10% content of millet and 10-20% content of waxy millet made no significant difference in hardness from the control one; as for retrogradation, waxy millet tended to make greater increase in hardness than millet. 5℃ storage resulted more rapidly in retrogradation than 25℃. The sensory evaluation showed that with the increase in the content, waxy millet, millet, and the control in order served to make it darker and harder in terms of external properties, with small pores, uneven texture, and reduced flavor in terms of internal properties. There was no significant difference between the cake with 10-20% content of millet and waxy millet and the control one in making a white layer cake by adding millet and waxy millet.

The basic principle of fry drying process of sludge lies in the rapid pressure change of sludge material caused by the change of temperature between oil and moisture due to the difference of specific heat. Therefore, the rapid increase of pressure in drying sludge induces the efficient moisture escape through sludge pores toward heating oil media. The object of this study is to carry out a systematic investigation of the influence of various parameters associated with the sludge fry drying processes on the drying efficiency. To this end, a series of parametric experimental investigation has been made together with the numerical calculation in order to obtain typical drying curves as function of important parameters such as drying temperature, sludge diameter, oil type and sludge type. In the aspect of frying temperature, especially it is found that the operation higher than $140^{\circ}C$ was favorable in drying efficiency regardless of type of waste oil employed in this study. The same result was also noted consistently in the investigation of numerical calculation, that is, in that the sludge particle drying was efficiently made over $140^{\circ}C$ irrespective of the change of particle diameter. As expected, in general, the decrease of diameter in sludge was found efficient both experiment and numerical calculation in drying due to the increased surface area per unit volume. In the investigation of oil type and property, the effect of the viscosity of waste oil was found to be more influential in drying performance. In particular, when the oil with high viscosity, a visible time delay was noticed in moisture evaporation especially in the early stage of drying. However, the effect of high viscosity decreased significantly over the temperature of $140^{\circ}C$. There was no visible difference observed in the study of sludge type but the sewage sludge with a slightly better efficiency. The numerical study is considered to be a quite useful tool to assist in experiment with more detailed empirical modeling as further work.

In this research the characteristics of ammonia removal from malodorous waste-air were investigated under various operating condition of biofiilter packed with equal volume of rubber media and compost for the efficient removal of ammonia, representative source of malodor frequently generated at compost manufacturing factory and publicly owned facilities. Then the optimum conditions were constructed to treat waste-air containing ammonia with biofilter. Biofilter was run for 30 days(experimental frequency of 2 times/day makes 60 experimental times.) with the ammonia loading from $2.18g-N/m^3/h$ to $70g-N/m^3/h$ at $30^{\circ}C$. The ammonia removal efficiency reached almost 100% for I through IV stage of run to degrade up to the ammonia loading of $17g-N/m^3/h$. However the removal efficiency dropped to 80% when ammonia loading increased to $35g-N/m^3/h$, which makes the elimination capacity of ammonia $28g-N/m^3/h$ for V stage of run. However, the removal efficiency remained 80% and the maximum elimination capacity reached $55g-N/m^3/h$ when ammonia loading was doubled $70g-N/m^3/h$ for VI stage of run. Thus the maximum elimination capacity exceeded $1,200g-N/m^3/day$(i.e., $50g-N/m^3/h$) of the experiment of biofilter packed with rock wool inoculated with night soil sludge by Kim et al.. However, the critical loading did not exceed $810g-N/m^3/day$ (i.e., $33.75g-N/m^3/h$) of the biofilter experiment by Kim et al.. The reason to exceed the maximum elimination capacity of Kim et al. may be attributed to that the rubber media used as biofilter packing material provide the better environment for the fixation of nitrifying and denitrification bacteria to its surface coated with coconut based-activated carbon powder and well-developed inner-pores, respectively.

Hydrogen, a clean energy source free of COx emissions, is poised to replace fossil fuels, with its usage on the rise. Despite its high energy content per unit mass, hydrogen faces limitations in storage and transportation due to its low storage density and challenges in long-term storage. In contrast, ammonia offers a high storage capacity per unit volume and is relatively easy to liquefy, making it an attractive option for storing and transporting large volumes of hydrogen. While NH3 decomposition is an endothermic reaction, achieving excellent low-temperature catalytic activity is essential for process efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The study examined the effects of different zeolite types (5A, NaY, ZSM5) on NH3 decomposition activity, considering differences in pore structure, cations, and Si/Al-ratio. Notably, the 5A zeolite facilitated the high dispersion of Ni across the surface, inside pores, and within the structure. Its low Si/Al ratio contributed to abundant acidity, enhancing ammonia adsorption. Additionally, the presence of Na and Ca cations in the support created medium basic sites that improved N2 desorption rates. As a result, among the prepared catalysts, the 15 wt%Ni/5A catalyst exhibited the highest NH3 conversion and a high H2 formation rate of 23.5 mmol/gcat·min (30,000 mL/gcat·h, 600 ℃). This performance was attributed to the strong metal-support interaction and the enhancement of N2 desorption rates through the presence of medium basic sites.
