Direct decomposition of methane over three types of carbon black (N330-p, N330-f, and HI-900L) was carried out in a fluidized bed quartz reactor. Properties of carbon black before and after reaction were measured and found to be related with surface structure and weight gain. For N330-p and N330-f, some carbon deposit on the surface was considered to be the reason for the increase of BET surface area and pore volume with weight gain. Carbon deposits on the surface and the conglutination of some aggregates may explain the slight increase of particle size. Properties of HI-900L changed much more significantly with weight gain. It is supposed that the increase of aggregate size of HI-900L were due to some unknown oily components. The corresponding agglomeration might be the reason for the decrease of BET surface area with weight gain, as compared with the increase of that for the case of N330 black.
In the Fe-Si system, a mixture of a($Fe_{2}Si_5$) - and ${\epsilon}$(FeSi)-composition powders was sintered and heat-treated subsequently at various temperatures and time to get thermoelectric ${\beta}$-phase($FeSi_2$) compacts. The different transformational sequences depending on the heat treating temperature were found through the investigation into phase transformation and microstructural development. That is, a rapid eutectoid decomposition of ${\alpha}{\to}{\beta}+Si$ occurred together with a accompanying slow reaction between the dispersed Si formed by above decomposition and the preexisted ${\epsilon}$ phase at temperatures below $830^{\circ}C$. The unreacted Si and the micropores formed due to the density change upon the transformation coarsened as heat treating time elapsed. At temperatures above $880^{\circ}C$, however, transformation was proceeded by a peritectoid reaction of ${\alpha}+{\epsilon}{\to}{\beta}$. It took at least 200min. to achieve 90% volume fracion of transformed ${\beta}$ phase, and the growth of micro-pores was also observed in this transformational sequence with prolonged heat treating time.
In this editorial, buckling analytical investigation of the nanocomposite plate with square cut out reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) surrounded by Pasternak foundation is considered. The plate is presumed has square cut out in center and resting on Pasternak foundation. CNTs are used as amplifier in plate for diverse distribution, such as uniform distribution (UD) and three patterns of functionally graded (FG) distribution types of CNTs (FG-X, FG-A and FG-O). Moreover, the effective mechanical properties of nanocomposite plate are calculated from the rule of mixture. Domain decomposition method and orthogonal polynomials are applied in order to define the shape function of nanocomposite plate with square cut out. Finally, Rayleigh-Ritz energy method is used to obtain critical buckling load of system. A detailed parametric study is conducted to explicit the effects of the dimensions of plate, length of square cut out, different distribution of CNTs, elastic medium and volume fraction of CNTs. It is found from results that increase the dimensions of plate and length of square cut out have negative impact on buckling behavior of system but considering CNTs in plate has positive influence.
With the development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), studies on shipbuilding and maritime issues including free-surface wave flow have been conducted. Although the volume of fluid (VOF) and level-set methods are widely used to study the free-surface wave flow, disadvantages exist. In particular, it takes a long time to obtain solutions. In this study, a free-surface capturing code is developed for ship and offshore structures. The developed code focuses on accuracy and computation time. Open source CFD libraries, termed OpenFOAM, are used to develop the code. The results obtained using the developed code are compared with those obtained using interFoam. The results show that the developed code could be used to capture the free-surface wave flow without numerical diffusion; moreover, the accuracy of the developed code is largely the same as that of interFoam.

Solution copolymerization of Styrene(St.) with 2-Hydroxypropylacrylate(2-HPA) was carried out with Benzoylperoxide(BPO) as an initiator in toluene at $80^{\circ}C$ in a batch reactor. Reaction volume and reaction time were 0.3 liters, 8 hours respectively. The time to reach steady state was about the six time. The monomer reactivity ratios, $r_1$(St.) and $r_2$(2-HPA) were determined by both the Kelen-Tudos method and the Fineman-Ross method ; $r_1$(St.)=0.376(0.330), $r_2$(2-HPA)=0.408(0.778). The activation energy of thermal decomposition was in the range of $33{\sim}55kcal/mol$.
Numerical flow computations around an aeroelastic 3D square cylinder immersed in the turbulent boundary layer are shown. Present computational code can be characterized by three numerical aspects which are 1) the method of artificial compressibility is adopted for the incompressible flow computations, 2) the domain decomposition technique is used to get better grid point distributions, and 3) to achieve the conservation law both in time and space when the flow is computed a with moving and transformed grid, the time derivatives of metrics are evaluated using the time-and-space volume. To provide time-dependant inflow boundary conditions satisfying prescribed time-averaged velocity profiles, a convenient way for generating inflow turbulence is proposed. The square cylinder is modeled as a 4-lumped-mass system and it vibrates with two-degree of freedom of heaving motion. Those blocks which surround the cylinder are deformed according to the cylinder's motion. Vigorous oscillations occur as the vortex shedding frequency approaches cylinder's natural frequencies.
An unstructured implicit Euler solver is parallelized on a Cray T3E. Spatial discretization is accomplished by a cell-centered finite volume formulation using an upwind flux differencing. Time is advanced by the Gauss-Seidel implicit scheme. Domain decomposition is accomplished by using the k-way n-partitioning method developed by Karypis. In order to analyze the parallel performance of the solver, flows over a 2-D NACA 0012 airfoil and 3-D F-5 wing were investigated.

The thermal stability of nitric acid solutions after contact with non-irradiated and irradiated tributyl phosphate (TBP) and its solution in Isopar-M has been studied. It has been established that exothermic processes occur during heating due to the interaction of soluble radiolysis products and the decomposition of the extractant with nitric acid. Such processes can occur at temperatures below 100 ℃, but unlike a thermal explosion that occurs in seconds, they are longer in time and are accompanied by weak heat evolution. Their intensity depends on the composition of the extractant, the concentration of HNO3, and the volume ratio of the organic and aqueous phases. The presence of extractant degradation products in raffinates does not pose a risk of a rapid evolution of gaseous products during evaporation, however, the presence of reducing agents can significantly increase the intensity of the exothermic decomposition of raffinates.
The study examines changes in calcium volume on born by comparing two figures; one is measured by dual energy computed tomography(DECT) followed by applying variation in monochromatic energy selection(keV), material decomposition(MD), and material suppressed iodine(MSI) analysis, and the other is measured by conventional single source computed tomography(CSCT). For this study, based on CSCT images taken by using human mimicked phantom, 70, 100, 140 keV and MSI, MD material calcium weighting(MCW) and MD material iodine weighting(MIW) of DECT were applied respectively. Then calculated calcium volume was converted to Agatston score for comparison. Volume of human mimicked phantom was in inverse proportion to keV. The volume decreased while keV increased(p<0.05). The most similar DECT volumes were reconstructed at 70 keV, the difference was showed $35.8{\pm}12.2$ for rib, femur ($16.1{\pm}24.1$), pelvis($13.7{\pm}18.8$), and spine($179.0{\pm}61.8$). However, the volume of MSI was down for each organ; the volume of rib was 5.55%, femur(76.34%), pelvis(55.16%) and spine(87.58%). The volume of MSI decreased 55.9% for rib, femur(80.7%), pelvis(69.6%) and spine(54.2%) while MD MIW reduced for rib(83.51%), femur(87.68%), pelvis(86.64%), and spine(82.62%). With the results, the study found that outcomes were affected by the method which examiners employed. When using DECT, calcium volume of born dropped with keV increased. It also found that the most similar DECT images were reconstructed at 70 keV. The results of experiments implied that the users of MSI and MD should be cautious of errors as there are big differences in scores between those two methods.
