Recently, there were some successful examples that the laser welding was introduced into production line. However, the spread of laser welding is not sufficient in many industries. There are several reasons why it is difficult to penetrate the laser welding into production lines. Because it is different from reflection, absorption and permeation of laser beam according to material and surface condition. Moreover, there are significant problems in processing such as absorption and scattering of beam by the induced plasma or plume. Therefore, understanding of mechanism on formation of weld defect in laser welding of the laminated core for motor is very important. In this paper, it was analyzed in terms of materials which was source of defect in laser welding and conventional arc welding. As a results of analysis, insulation coating film of the laminated core was judged to main factor of weld defect. it could be well aware as tracing carbon volume, and it was deduced that weld defect by insulation coating film was caused by difference of mechanism between the two heat sources.
Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-fabricated suspended devices were used to measure the in-plane electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, and thermal conductivity of 304 nm and 516 nm thick InGaAlAs films with 0.3% ErAs nanoparticle inclusions by volume. The suspended device allows comprehensive thermoelectric property measurements from a single thin film or nanowire sample. Both thin film samples have identical material compositions and the sole difference is in the sample thickness. The measured Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity were all larger in magnitude for the thicker sample. While the relative change in values was dependent on the temperature, the thermal conductivity demonstrated the largest decrease for the thinner sample in the measurement temperature range of 325 K to 425 K. This could be a result of the increased phonon scattering due to the surface defects and included ErAs nanoparticles. Similar to the results from other material systems, the combination of the measured data resulted in higher values of the thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) for the thinner sample; this result supports the theory that the reduced dimensionality, such as in twodimensional thin films or one-dimensional nanowires, can enhance the thermoelectric figure of merit compared with bulk threedimensional materials. The results strengthen and provide a possible direction in locating and optimizing thermoelectric materials for energy applications.
Experimental study was conducted to investigate the effects of ultra-high injection pressure and nozzle hole diameter on diesel flow and spray characteristics. Electronically controlled ultra-high pressure fuel injection system was made to supply the fuel of ultra-high pressure consistently. Three injection pressures, 80, 160, and 250MPa were applied. Four type of injectors with identical eight nozzle holes were used. The four injectors have nozzle hole diameters of 115, 105, 95, and $85{\mu}m$ respectively. Injection quantity and rate were measured to investigate flow characteristics according to injection pressures and nozzle hole diameters. Mie-scattering and shadowgraph were performed to visualize liquid and vapor phases of diesel spray in a constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC). Ambient conditions of high pressure and high temperature in a diesel engine were simulated by using CVCC.
The synergistic effect of ethylene/propane and ethylene/methane mixtures on soot formation is studied experimentally with a concentric co-flow burner. The integrated soot volume fractions, laser light scattering signal and PAH concentrations are measured for different fuel supply configurations. The synergistic effect in ethylene/propane diffusion flames is found to be affected not only by the composition of mixture but also by the way of mixing. Comparing to the homogeneously mixed ethylene/propane case, the increase of soot formation is observed when propane is supplied through the inner nozzle, while the decrease is observed when propane is supplied through the outer nozzle. However, the measured PAH concentration distributions are inconsistent with the current view of the synergistic effect of ethylene./propane mixture on soot formation. Virtually no synergistic effect is observed in ethylene-methane flames regardless of the fuel supply configuration, which suggests the important role of $C_3$ species produced during the propane pyrolysis process for the synergistic effect.

The common production methods of nanocellulosic (cellulosic nanofibrils, CNF) materials from wood are being reviewed, together with large scale applications and particularly papermaking applications. The high energy demand for producing CNF has been one particular problem, which has been addressed over the years and can now be considered solved. Another problem was the clogging of homogenizers/microfluidizers, and the different routes to decrease the energy demand. The clogging tendency, related to the flocculation tendency of fibres is discussed in some detail. The most common methods to decrease the energy demand are TEMPO-oxidation, carboxymethylation and mechanical/enzymatic pre-treatments in the order of increased energy demand for delamination. The rheology characteristics of CNF materials, i.e. the high shear viscosity, shear thinning and the thixotropic properties are being illuminated. CNF materials are strength adjuvants that enhance the relative bonded area in paper sheets and, hence increase the sheet density and give an increased strength of the paper, particularly for chemical pulps. At the same time papers obtain a lower light scattering, higher hygroexpansion and decreased air permeability, similar to the effects of beating pulps. The negative effects on drainage by CNF materials must be alleviated through the appropriate use of microparticulate drainage aids. The use of CNF in films and coatings is interesting because CNF films and coatings can provide paper/board with good oxygen barrier properties, particularly at low relative humidities. Some other high volume applications such as concrete, oil recovery applications, automotive body applications and plastic packaging are also briefly discussed.
The numerical investigation on the effects of water-mist characteristics has been carried out for the fire suppression mechanism. The FDS are used to simulate the interaction of fire plume and water mists, and program describes the fire-driven flows using LES turbulence model, the mixture fraction combustion model, the finite volume method of radiation transport for a non-scattering gray gas, and conjugate heat transfer between wall and gas flow. The numerical model is consisted of a rectangular enclosure of $L{\times}W{\times}H=1.5{\times}1.5{\times}2.0m^3$ and a water mist nozzle that be installed 1.8 m from fire pool. In the present study, the parameters of nozzle for simulation are the droplet size and the spray velocity. The droplet size influences to fire flume on fire suppression more than the spray velocity because of the effect of the terminal velocity. The optimal condition for fire suppression is that the droplet size and the spray velocity are $100{\mu}m$ and 20 m/s respectively.
The evolution of incipient soot particles has been examined by high resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM) and elemental analyzer in ethylene-air inverse diffusion flames. Laser Induced Incandescence(LII) and laser scattering methods were introduced for examining the soot volume fraction and morphological properties in combustion generated soot qualitatively. Soot particles, collected by thermophoretic sampling, were analyzed by using HRTEM to examine the nano structure of precursor particles. HRTEM micrographs apparently reveal a transformation of condensed phase of semitransparent tar-like material into precursor particles with relatively distinct boundary and crystalline which looks like regular layer structures. During this evolution histories, C/H analysis was also performed to estimate the chemical evolution of precursor particles. The changes of C/H ratio of soot particles with respect to residence time can be divided into two parts: one is a very slowly increasing regime where tar-like materials are transformed into precursor particles (inception process) the other is an increasing region with constant rate where surface growth affects the increase of C/H ratio dominantly (surface growth process). These results provide a clear picture of a transition to mature soot from precursor materials.
Monodisperse ZnS colloidal particles with precisely specified diameters over a broad size range were synthesized by controlled aggregation. Sub-10nm ZnS seed crystals were first nucleated at ambient temperature and then grown at an elevated temperature, which produced large polydisperse colloidal particles. Subsequent rapid thermal quenching and heating processes induced a number of secondary nucleations in addition to growing the large polydisperse microparticles which were finally removed by centrifugation and discarded at the completion of the reaction. The secondary nuclei were then aggregated further at elevated temperatures, resulting in colloidal particles which exhibited a nearly monodisperse size distribution. Particle diameters were controlled over a wide size range from 50 nm to 1 μm. Mie simulations of the experiment extinction spectra determined that the volume fraction of the ZnS is 0.66 in an aggregated colloidal particle and the colloidal particle effective refractive index is approximately 2.0 at 590 nm in water. The surface of the colloidal particles was subsequently coated with silica to produce ZnS@silica core-shell particles.
Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) pellicle is one of the most concerned research in the field of EUV lithography (EUVL). Imaging performance of EUV mask with pellicle should be investigated prior to high volume manufacturing (HVM) of EUVL. In this paper, we analyzed the relationship between standoff distance and imaging performance of EUV mask to verify the influences of relative standoff distance on imaging performance. As a result, standoff distance of EUV pellicle has no effect on imaging performance of EUV mask such as critical dimension (CD), normalized image log slope (NILS) and image contrast. Therefore, pellicle support structure can be flexibly designed and modified in diverse ways to complement the thermal limitation of EUV pellicle membrane.
Calcium aluminate glasses transmit light at relatively long wavelengths up to 6 ㎛ and exhibit also low Rayleigh scattering values. However they have a tendency to get devitrified easily, which limits their use as routine optical materials. Here, the ternary system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 glasses with low-silica (<30 mol%) were prepared to prevent the devitrification of CaO-Al2O3 glasses and the properties were investigated as functions of composition. The addition of SiO2 to calcium aluminate glasses promoted their stability, which was due to the decrease of non-bridging oxygens and the reconnection of network. As SiO2 was added, density, refractive index, molar volume of oxygens and thermal expansion coefficient decreased continuously. But the glass transition temperatures with increasing SiO2 contents were raised and then lowered. It was postulated that the anomaly was related to the changes of the middle range order as well as the short range order. As the amount of SiO2 in the glass was increased, the IR cut-off values moved to shorter wavelength owing to 'Si-O' antisymetric stretching vibration. The IR cut-off wavelength of the glasses with 5 and 30 mol% SiO2 was 4.90, 4.55 ㎛, respectively.
