A method is developed to include the effect of volume expansion in the description of the flame dynamics using G-equation. Line volume-source is used to represent the effect of the exothermic process of combustion with source strength assigned by the density difference between the burned and the unburned region. The present model provides good agreement with the experimental results. Including volume expansion, the flow field is adjusted to accommodate the increased volume flow rate which crossing the flame front and the result predicts the same behavior of measured velocity field qualitatively. The effect of increasing volume expansion does not change the initial growth rate of flame area but increase the residence time. Consequently this effect increases the maximum area of flame front. The flame propagation in varying flow field due to volume expansion provides a promising way to represent the wrinkled turbulent premixed flames in a numerically efficient manner.
Characteristics of fruit tree canopies are important target information for adjusting the pesticide application rate in variable rate spraying in orchards. Therefore, the target detection of the canopy characteristics is very important. In this study, a canopy volume measurement method for peach trees was presented and a variable rate spraying system based on canopy volume measurement was developed using the ultrasonic sensing, one of the most effective target detection method. Ten ultrasonic sensors and two flow control units were mounted on the orchard air-assisted sprayer. The ultrasonic sensors were used to detect the canopy diameters and the flow controls were used to modify the flow rate of the nozzles in real time. Two treatments were established: a constant application rate of $300Lha^{-1}$ was set as the control treatment for the comparison with the variable rate application at a $0.095Lm^{-3}$ canopy. The tracer deposition at different parts of peach trees and the tracer losses to the ground (between rows and within rows) were analyzed in detail under constant rate and variable rate application. The results showed that there were no significant differences between two treatments in the liquid distribution and the capability to reach the inner parts of the crop canopies.
Navier-Stokes simulation of the flow in a micro viscous pump is carried out. The micro viscous pump consists of a rotating circular rotor placed in a two dimensional channel. All simulation is carried out by using a finite volume approach, at the Reynolds number of 0.5, to study the performance of the micro viscous pump. Length of channel of the pump is varied to simulate the effects of the pumping load. Numerical solutions show that the net flow of the pump is realized by two counter rotating vortices formed on both sides of the rotor. The volume flow rate of the pump is decreased as length of the channel is increased, while the static pressure difference across the rotor is increased. The static pressure difference across the rotor is observed to be inversely proportional to the volume flow rate as inertia effects are negligibly small. The efficiency of the pump is found to reach a maximum when two counter rotating vortices on both sides of the rotor becomes to merge forming an outer enveloping vortex.
The inside of EMU is supplied with the cooling air from air-conditioner and the fresh air from exterior through the air-conditioner duct which is one of the air conditioning system. The shape of air-conditioner duct is a major factor in determining the air-conditioning efficiency, thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Therefore, this study is to understand the flow characteristics in the air-conditioner duct by three dimensional numerical simulation. The air-conditioner duct was calculated for the design volume flow rate, $2,726\;m^3/h/unit$. From the result of calculation and measurement, the velocity at diffuser outlet presented good agreement in general. [n this present study, the calculation was also performed for three volume flow rate(1,800, 2,200, 3,000 $m^3/h/unit$) and total pressure characteristic curve with volume flow rate was presented.

The T-s chart of air displays graphically the thermophysical properties, so it is very conveniently used in various thermal systems. In previous study, the software analyzing 31 kinds of values in water system and 32 kinds of values in air-conditioning system were developed. In this study, the software drawing 13 kinds of quantity of state on air properties as ideal gas and analyzing 25 kinds of values in any air system was developed. The 13 kinds of quantity of state on air properties are temperature, pressure, specific volume, specific internal energy, specific enthalpy, specific entropy, specific exergy, exergy ratio, density, isobaric specific heat, isochoric specific heat, ratio of specific heat, and velocity of sound, and the 25 kinds of values including 13 kinds are mass flow rate, volume flow rate, internal energy flow rate, enthalpy flow rate, entropy flow rate, exergy flow rate, heat flow rate, power output, power efficiency, reversible work, lost work, and relative humidity. The developed software can draw any range of chart and analysis any state or process on air system. Also, this supports various document-editing functions such as power point. We wish to this chart is a help to design, analysis, and education in air system field.
This study is aimed to analyze the floe patterns and thermal characteristics by computer simulation under the variations of fire strength for the logitudinal tunnel, from which flow and heat distributions are predicted in the longitudinal tunnel. Through the results of numerical computations, followings are found; one is that the volume flow rate is discontinuously increasing as closer to fire location, and the other is that a critical design to get the faster flow rate is required because of existence of backlayer flow for the high fire strength in view of safety for the people in fire of the tunnel.

Purpose: In Korea, wheat is dried using circulating cross-flow grain dryers. However, there is no research on wheat drying which can be utilized for the dryers. Therefore, this study developed and evaluated a simulation of the circulating cross-flow dryer, and examined the effects of various factors on drying performance. Methods: The simulation program was developed using drying models and was evaluated against wheat-drying experiments with a dryer having a 30-ton capacity. The influence of drying temperature, air volume, and grain falling rate on drying performance were examined through the simulation. Results: The experimental results validated the simulation program by showing the same root mean square error (RMSE) for moisture content (0.286%) and drying rate (0.056%/h) in both the experimental data and the simulation values. The appropriate wheat-drying parameter values, considering drying conditions, were determined to be $50^{\circ}C$ for drying temperature, $500m^3/min$ for air volume, and a grain falling rate of $36.0m^3/h$. Conclusions: The developed simulation program for circulating cross-flow dryers analyzed the influences of performance factors such as drying temperature, air volume, and falling rate on drying performance.
A standard air flow generator system was developed to generate air flows of various levels simultaneously applied to two different air flow transducer modules. Axes of two identical standard syringes for spirometer calibration were connected with each other and driven by a servo-motor. Linear displacement transducer was also connected to the syringe axis to accurately acquire the volume change signal. The user can select either sinusoidal or square waveform of volume change and manually input any volume as well as maximal flow rate levels ranging 0~3 l and 0~15 l/s, respectively. Various volume and flow levels were input to operate the system, then the volume signal was acquired followed by numerical differentiation to obtain the air flow signal. The measured volumes and maximal air flow rates were compared with the user input data. The relative errors between the user-input and the measured stroke volumes were all within 0.5%, demonstrating very accurate driving of the system. In case of the maximal flow rate, relatively large error was observed when the syringe was driven very fast within a very short time duration. However, except for these few data, most measured flow rates revealed relative errors of approximately 2%. When the measure and user-input stroke volume and maximal flow rate data were analyzed by linear regression analysis, respectively, the correlation coefficients were satisfactorily higher than 0.99 (p < 0.0001). These results demonstrate that the servo-motor controls the syringes with enough accuracy to generate standard air flows. Therefore, the present system would be very much practical for calibration process as well as performance evaluation and comparison of two different air flow transducer modules.
In the Over-The-Range, the outlet size is limited by the industrial standards. Therefor to enlarge the volume of cavity, the installation height of ventilation fan is become small, the system resistance is higher than before. For that reason, the important design variables such as the diameter of a fan, the scroll expansion angle, etc. which play the significant role on flow rate and noise, are confined. In this study, we made an experiment of the diameter of fans relation to scroll expansion angle and investigated flow rate of the length of fans in enlarged cavity volume of OTR, and then we designed the new scroll to improve the flow rate and noise level. As a result, flow rate increased to 110% compared to current scroll and the blade passing frequency of a fan is disappeared by inclined cut-off shapes.
