  • As one way of design optimization of two-stage two-cylinder rotary compressor used for R410A heat pump application, displacement volume ratio, being defined by the ratio of the second stage cylinder volume to that of the first stage, has been varied and its effect on the compressor performance has been investigated by a computer simulation program. For simplicity, only the cylinder height of the second stage was varied to change the volume ratio. With increasing the volume ratio in the range of VR=$0.55{\sim}0.9$, volumetric efficiency increased monotonically, but adiabatic efficiency showed a maximum at around VR=0.6. Mechanical efficiency was little influenced by the volumetric ratio. As a consequence, maximum improvement of the compressor performance was found at around VR=0.7. Compared to a one-stage two-cylinder rotary compressor with about the same cooling capacity, COP improvement was about 6.96%.

Cherepnov 송수기에 대한 배수제어방식의 실험적 특성 (Experimental Characteristic of Drain Control to Cherepnov Water Lifter)

  • The perpose of this study was to suggest the experimental characteristic of the Cherepnov Water Lifter following the drain mode. The Cherepnov Water Lifter(CWL), which is powered by the potential energy of water, can be set to operate automatically when the water m a tank is drained. In this study, a CWL is constructed in the valve drain controlling mode(VCM) and the siphon drain controlling mode(SCM), and a pressure transducer is installed. It was found that, in the VCM, intake flow volume is proportional to both delivery flow volume and drain flow volume. In the SCM, intake flow volume is proportional to drain flow volume, and the average delivery rate is proportional to both efficiency and the water utilization ratio. Also, in the VCM, the water utilization ratio is 35~49%, efficiency is 62~9O%, average delivery rate is 12.8~81.2$cm^3$/s, and the average drain rate is 14.O~91.5c$cm^3$/s. On the contrary in the SCM, the water utilization ratio is 1.7~38%, efficiency is 3~58%, average delivery rate is 3.1 ~69.2$cm^3$/s, and the average drain rate is shown as 114.5~ 183$cm^3$/s. As a result of the water utilization ratio, efficiency, average delivery rate, and average drain rate are compared, the VCM is found to be superior and the more economical mode. However, the VCM requires manpower and electricity to operate the electronic machinery involved, while the SCM requires no manpower or electricity at all. An economic evaluation of these differences will be necessary in the future. Also, in the SCM, studies to improve water utilization ratio and efficiency, to find the optimum height of the siphon for decreasing the average drain rate, and to determine the radius of curvature of throat have to be conducted in advance, since a large flow rate is drained during the priming action of the siphon.

전기분해를 이용한 하수 슬러지 감량 (Volume Reduction of Waste Water Sludge using Electrolysis)

  • In this research, volume reduction of activated sludge using electrolysis was studied to find an optimum condition using lab scale experiments. Wasted sludge was treated by electrolysis with controlling current density, chloride concentration, electrode distance, and reaction time. Volume of return sludge was reduced by 9.79% in average while maximum was 16.7%. Sludge volume reduction efficiency was affected by current density and reaction time. It was reversely proportional to the electrode distance. Especially current density was effective on the system performance significantly. Electric conductivity, salinity and COD were increased by electrolysis implying sludge disintegrated and converted to COD in part. An empirical equation for total solid removal efficiency by electrolysis was proposed by multiple linear regression analysis as: $TS_{rem}$(%) = 5.534 ${\times}$ current density (A/l) + 0.178 ${\times}$ reaction time (m) + 2.758.

유회수기용 디스크 소재별 성능 비교 (Comparison of Oil Recovery Performance between Disk Materials of Oil Skimmer)

  • 본 연구는 탱크로리용 디스크식 유회수기 개발을 위한 기초 연구로 기존 유회수기 디스크와 기름의 흡착이 가능하다고 판단되는 몇가지 재료의 디스크에 대한 유회수 차이를 실험을 통해 비교한 것이다. 실험 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 모든 디스크에서 경유보다는 벙커 A유의 회수량이 높았으며, 경유에서는 디스크 소재별 유회수량이 모든 디스크에서 거의 차이가 없는 반면, 벙커 A유에서는 디스크 소재에 따라 회수 성능이 큰 차이를 보였다. 또한, 디스크 구동 시간대별 회수량은 경유의 경우, 모든 디스크 소재에서 초기 시간대부터 단위 구동 시간당 기름의 회수량 차이가 거의 없는 것으로 나타난 반면, 벙커 A유는 모든 소재에서 구동 초기시간에서 회수량이 직선적으로 증가하고 시간이 경과할수록 증가량이 완만한 경향을 보여 단위 구동 시간당 기름의 회수량이 시간에 따라 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타나 유류의 점도가 디스크 회수성능에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 벙커 A유를 대상으로 전체 회수량에서 순수 유회수량과 함수량을 비교했을 때 창문용 알미늄 소재의 디스크는 다른 재질의 디스크에 비해 기름의 회수량은 차이가 없으면서 상대적으로 물의 회수량은 매우 적게 나타나는 것으로 조사되어 함수량을 고려한 유회수 효율을 고려했을 때 가장 이상적인 결과를 보여주고 있어, 본 연구에서 목적하는 탱크로리 유회수기 디스크 소재로서 가장 유리하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • 국내 원전에서 공기 중 삼중수소 농도를 평가하기 위해 사용하는 삼중수소 버블러의 포집효율에 대하여 고찰하였다. 수증기 형태인 공기 중 삼중수소는 기포가 물을 통과하는 동안 평형농도에 도달하게 된다. 많은 양의 기체시료를 통과시킬 경우 포집수의 삼중수소 농도가 높아지고 포집수가 감소하거나 증가하는 현상이 발생하여 포집효율에 영향을 미치게 된다. 이러한 영향을 고려한 포집수의 예측농도는 실측값과 잘 맞았다. 통상적인 방식과 같이 초기 포집수량을 이용하여 삼중 수소 포집량을 평가할 경우 기체시료의 상대습도가 0.5보다 높으면 포집효율은 1보다 낮아지고 상대습도가 0.5보다 낮으면 포집효율은 1보다 높아진다. 상대습도가 0.5가 아니더라도 $\frac{포화수증기량\times기체통과량}{포집수량}$을 작게 하면 포집효율을 1에 가깝게 유지할 수 있다.

LIVC 적용 밀러사이클 스파크점화기관의 유동특성 연구 (A Study on Flow Characteristics of Spark-Ignited Engine with Variable Intake Valve Closing Timing for Miller Cycle)

  • In this study, to research in-cylinder flow characteristics of spark-ignited engine with intake valve closing timing change for Miller cycle. 3D simulation study were used 6 different intake valve profile with $CAD10^{\circ}$ gap for retard intake valve closing timing. Comparison of In-cylinder flow pattern characteristic were accompanied between Base and LIVC. And the efficiency of volume and the work of compression were analyzed with simulation study. When intake valve closing angle was retarded in $CAD50^{\circ}$, the pressure in cylinder was decreased about 12~13 bar and volume efficiency was reduced about 16%. The efficiency of volume and the work of compression were reduced on LIVC.

A Trade-Off between the Efficiency, Ripple and Volume of a DC-DC Converter

  • In space qualified DC-DC converters, optimization of the following electrical characteristics is of greater interest in comparison with other specifications; power loss/efficiency, output voltage ripple and volume/weight. The main goal of this paper is to present an appropriate solution for optimizing the above mentioned characteristics. For this purpose, a comprehensive power loss model of a DC-DC converter is fully developed. Proper models are also demonstrated for assessment of the output voltage ripple and the utilized transformer volume as the bulkiest component in a DC-DC converter. In order to provide a test bed for evaluation of the proposed models, a 50W push-pull DC-DC converter is designed and implemented. Finally, a novel cost function with three assigned weight functions is proposed in order to have a trade-off among the power loss, the output voltage ripple and the utilized transformer volume of the converter. The cost function is optimized for applications in which volume has the highest priority in comparison with power loss and ripple. The optimization results show that the transformer volume can be decreased by up to 51% and this result is verified by experimental results. The developed models and algorithms in this paper can be used for other DC-DC converter topologies with some minor modifications.

항공기 결빙 예측을 위한 Eulerian 기반 액적 충돌 및 결빙 증식 코드 (AN EULERIAN-BASED DROPLET IMPINGEMENT AND ICE ACCRETION CODE FOR AIRCRAFT ICING PREDICTION)

  • As a step toward accurate prediction of droplet impingement and ice accretion on aircraft, an Eulerian-based droplet impingement and ice accretion code for air flows around an airfoil containing water droplets is developed. A CFD solver based on the finite volume method was also developed to solve the clean airflow. The finite-volume-based approach for simulating droplet impingement on an airfoil was employed owing to its compatibility with the CFD solver and robustness. For ice accretion module, a simple model based on the control volume is combined with the droplet impingement module that provides the collection efficiency. To validate the present code, it is compared with NASA Glenn IRT (Icing Research Tunnel) experimental data and other well-known icing codes such as LEWICE and FENSAP-ICE. It is shown that the collection efficiency and shape of ice accretion are in good agreement with previous experimental and simulation results.

교통량이 적은 고속도로의 효율적인 건설 방안 연구 (A Study on a Plan to Efficiently Construct an Expressway with Low Traffic Volume)

  • OBJECTIVES : This study aims to review a plan to reduce the shoulder width of a deformed round-trip two-lane highway with low traffic volume. METHODS : Installation of a passing lane on a round-trip two-lane (one-way one-lane) highway, and reduction of a shoulder for a round-trip four-lane highway. RESULTS : It is necessary to establish a design criterion for various highways, because the plan to reduce the lane or shoulder width of a highway with low traffic volume was analyzed to have an economic efficiency of 6.8~7.0%. CONCLUSIONS : It is necessary to seek for a plan to establish a national trunk net early by efficiently using the limited financial resources to cope with the traffic demand elastically.

  • The status and effectiveness of Bi-modal Tram is analyzed through the comparison of the transport effectiveness and operation cost between the public transportation systems (bus, light rail transit) considering the vehicle and operation characteristic of new transit system Bi-modal Tram. The standard operation schedule is established in consideration of the vehicle specification and operation characteristic of main public transportation modes, and then the annual average operation cost is estimated depending on the volume, speed, analysis length for respective public transportation mode. Through analyzing the operation cost and distribution characteristic of public transportation modes depending on the transport volume and travel speed, the operational efficiency suitable for the city is derived. It is concluded that the operational efficiency of Bi-modal Tram is superior to that of the bus and light rail transit on the aspect of travel volume and operation speed.
