This paper presents the development of the training courses using real time digital simulator (RTDS). This training courses for the engineers who are working at power system field are expected to be developed the sixteen courses. We describe the developed five courses in this paper which are protective relay testing, voltage compensation using a voltage compensator such as SVC and capacitor, the restoration of power for KEPCO system, phase unbalance simulation of transmission lines and harmonic analysis. We also describe the benchmark system composed of six buses with three machines for the KEPCO system to verify the power system analysis.
Service restoration following a complete or partial collapse starts with reenergizing a transmission line from black-start generators. Voltage problems can arise from Ferranti effect as unloaded transmission line is reenergized. This Paper presents system analyser to develop for verifying the primary restorative transmission system. The algorithm which has been used in the analyser is to handle load pick-up compensating Ferranti effect. and terminal voltage and reactive capability limitation of black-start generators about self-excitation.
This paper analyzes the electrical characteristic such as the impedance(Z), inductance(L), and cable resistance($R_p$) according to the change of cable length in order to move the electrical sorting device for distinguishing between AF non-insulated track circuits from the center of railway to outside railway. The simulation is performed to check the voltage difference between the voltage of sender and the voltage of receiver and determine the possibility of the voltage restoration availability in the frequency filter band through the capacitor compensation. It was applied to the results of the simulation to the sorting devices installed in the actual field. It is proved the availability by checking the measured voltage characteristic according to the capacitor compensating change of $10{\mu}F$ and $16{\mu}F$ before, and after the length of cable is increased with 6 meters. Through this, the prevention of breakdown and damage to facilities and the prevention the safety-related accidents of line workers from the train are expected according to moving the sorting devices of AR non-insulated track circuits to outside railway.
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of a Plug-In MCCB developed for rapid power supply restoration when the MCCB is installed in a power system and to verify its reliability. Since the developed 3 ${\Phi}$ 3 W Plug-In MCCB can be installed on and removed from a bus bar by one touch using a plug housed at the rear, it can be replaced in a short period of time. Therefore, it can quickly respond to the normalization of a power system. When the Plug-In MCCBB is installed on a bus bar, the resistance between each phase and plug was measured to be 0.46 $m{\Omega}$ in average. When the Plug-In MCCB is installed, the tension in the vertical direction was measured to be 112.78 N in average, which is greater than the tension of 50 N specified in the related regulation. The withstanding voltage tests performed 5 times repeatedly by applying 6 kV to the developed Plug-In MCCB for 60 seconds shows good withstanding voltage characteristics. In addition, both the general waterproof test using a water injection method and the insulation resistance analysis using a Mega meter showed good waterproof and insulation characteristics.
In this paper, a hierarchical control strategy is introduced to control a new three-port multidirectional DC-DC converter for integrating an energy storage system (ESS) to a bipolar DC microgrid (BPDCMG). The proposed converter provides a voltage-balancing function for the BPDCMG and adjusts the states of charge (SoC) of the ESS. Previous studies tend to balance the voltage of the BPDCMG buses with active sources or by transferring power from one bus to another. Furthermore, the batteries available in BPDCMGs were charged equally by both buses. However, this power sharing method does not guarantee efficient operation of the whole system. In order to achieve a higher efficiency and lower energy losses, a triple-layer hierarchical control strategy, including a primary droop controller, a secondary voltage restoration controller and a tertiary optimization controller are proposed. Thanks to the multi-functional operation of the proposed converter, its conversion stages are reduced. Furthermore, the efficiency and weight of the system are both improved. Therefore, this converter has a significant capability to be used in portable BPDCMGs such as electric DC ships. The converter modes are analyzed and small-signal models of the converter are extracted. Comprehensive simulation studies are carried out and a BPDCMG laboratory setup is implemented in order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed converter and its hierarchical control strategy. Simulation and experimental results show that using the proposed converter mitigates voltage imbalances. As a result, the system efficiency is improved by using the hierarchical optimal power flow control.
Distribution Management System(DMS) ienhancing distribution automation system-based operation efficiency is an optimized system by various operational applications in a distribution network. DMS employs various applications like topology reconfiguration, volt/var control, and restoration at events such as overload, voltage violation, and a fault in a distribution system. An operation efficiency to employ multi-applications as restoration with short-term load forecasting is higher than a performance by a single application; and the applications are accomplished by an operator’s control. Applications’ combination is determined by various alarm information which means critical issues in order to operate a distribution system. Thus, this paper proposes an application management system which can configure application combination, control applications depending on alarm information and check their performance condition. The proposed application management system can be customized by operator easily and have high operation efficiency and reliability because it is worked by reviewed alarm information from operator.
A microgrid (MG) with integrated renewable energy resources can benefit both utility companies and customers. As a result, they are attracting a great deal of attention. The control of a MG is very important for the stable operation of a MG. The droop-control method is popular since it avoids circulating currents among the converters without using any critical communication between them. Traditional droop control methods have the drawback of an inherent trade-off between power sharing and voltage and frequency regulation. An adaptive droop control method is proposed, which can operate in both the island mode and the grid-connected mode. It can also ensure smooth switching between these two modes. Furthermore, the voltage and frequency of a MG can be restored by using the proposed droop controller. Meanwhile, the active power can be dispatched appropriately in both operating modes based on the capacity or running cost of the Distributed Generators (DGs). The global information (such as the average voltage and output active power of the MG and so on) required by the proposed droop control method to restore the voltage and frequency deviations can be acquired distributedly based on the Multi Agent System (MAS). Simulation studies in PSCAD demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Restoration of contaminated soils to an environmentally acceptable condition is important. One of the newer techniques in soil remediation is a method based on electrokinetic phenomena in soils. The technology uses electricity to affect chemical concentrations and water flow through the pores of soils. An important advantage of electrokinetic soil remediation over other in-situ processes such as soil flushing is the capability of control over the movement of the contaminants. Because the migration of the contaminants is confined by the electric field, there is little dispersion outside the treatment zone. Furthermore, the process is effective for soils with low and variable permeability. In the present study, the distributions of cadmium in the electrokinetic processing of kaolinite under the condition of constant applied voltage are investigated. Cadmium accumulates near the cathode without reducing the diffusion of hydroxide ion into the soil. In keeping the catholyte pH at neutrality, cadmium migrates toward the cathode without any accumulation of cadmium near the cathode and is successfully removed at the cathode reservoir. It was also found that the progress of electrokinetic processing of cadmium could be gasped to a certain extent by monitoring the local voltage and the current density.
