  • This paper presents the control algorithm of single-phase hybrid active power filter for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear R-L load with passive active Power filters. To construct two phase system, an imaginary second phase was made. In this proposed method, the new signal which is the delayed through the filtering by the phase-delay property of low-pass filter is used as the secondary phase. Because two-phases have the different phase, the instantaneous calculation of harmonic current is possible. In this paper, a reference voltage is created by multiplying the coefficient k by the compensation current using the rotating reference frame synchronized with the source-frequency, not applying to instantaneous reactive power theory which has been used with the existing fixed reference frames In order to verify the validities of the proposed control methods, experiments are carried out with the prototypes of single-phase hybrid active power filter.

  • We propose a method for driving loudspeakers from class D audio power amplifiers in current mode, instead of in conventional voltage mode, which was impossible with the feedback circuitry. Unlike analog audio amplifiers, Class D audio power amplifiers have signal delay between the input and output signals, which makes it difficult to apply the feedback circuitry for current-mode driving. The idea of the pre-distortion scheme used for the compensation of the non-linearity of RF power amplifiers is adapted to remedy the impedance variation effect of the loudspeakers for current driving. The method uses the speaker model for the pre-distorter to compensate for the speaker impedance variation with frequency. The simulation and test results confirms the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a new sensorless vector control system for high performance induction motor drives fed by a matrix converter with non-linearity compensation and disturbance observer. The nonlinear voltage distortion that is caused by commutation delay and on-state voltage drop in switching device is corrected by a new matrix converter modeling. The lumped disturbances such as parameter variation and load disturbance of the system are estimated by the radial basis function network (RBFN). An adaptive observer is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed system.

  • In order to maintain customer voltage within allowable limit($220{\pm}13V$), tap operation of SVR(step voltage regulator) installed in primary feeder could be carried out according to the scheduled delay time(30 sec) of SVR. However, the compensation of BESS(battery energy storage system) is being required because the customer voltages during the delay time of SVR have a difficultly to maintain within allowable limit when PV system is interconnected with primary feeder. Therefore, this paper presents modeling of SVR to regulate voltage with the LDC(line drop compensation) method and modeling of BESS to control active and reactive power bi-directionally. And also, this paper proposes the coordination control modeling between BESS and SVR in order to overcome voltage problems in distribution system. From the simulation results based on the modeling with the PSCAD/EMTDC, it is confirmed that proposed modeling is practical tool for voltage regulation analysis in distribution system.

  • This paper presents a technique for reconstructing converter line currents using the information from a single current sensor in the DC-link for voltage-source PWM converters. When three-Phase input currents cannot be reconstructed, three methods to acquire the input current are compared. Two of them are methods of modifying the switching state (I, II), another is a method of using the predictive state observer. Also, compensation of sampling delay, and a simultaneous sample value of input currents in the center of a switching period are included. Suitable criteria for the comparison are identified, and the differences in the performance of these methods are investigated through experimental results for a typical V-S PWM converter rated at 10kVA.

  • In this paper, the PWM inverter-motor drive system including sensor is controlled through the network. The algorithm to compensate for the time delay of ac current and ac voltage sensors due to the network is proposed. The delay time of sensors is kept nearly constant, using the synchronous signal and timers. The error between the real and estimated ac signals can be reduced by using two slopes for estimating the value of at signals. The proposed algorithms are verified with the simulation studies and experiments.

  • Modeling of the three phase electric arc furnace and its voltage flicker mitigation are the purposes of this paper. For modeling of the electric arc furnace, at first, the arc is modeled by using current-voltage characteristic of a real arc. Then, the arc random characteristic has been taken into account by modulating the ac voltage via a band limited white noise. The electric arc furnace compensation with static VAr compensator, Thyristor Controlled Reactor combined with a Fixed Capacitor bank (TCR/FC), is discussed for closed loop control of the compensator. Instantaneous flicker sensation curves, before and after accomplishing compensation, are measured based on IEC standard. A new method for controlling TCR/FC compensator is proposed. This method is based on applying a predictive approach with closed loop control of the TCR/FC. In this method, by using the previous samples of the load reactive power, the future values of the load reactive power are predicted in order to consider the time delay in the compensator control. Also, in closed loop control, two different approaches are considered. The former is based on voltage regulation at the point of common coupling (PCC) and the later is based on enhancement of power factor at PCC. Finally, in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, the simulation results are provided.

  • This paper proposes the control method for compensating for unbalanced grid current and reducing a total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid current at the three-phase grid-connected inverter systems under unbalancd and distorted grid voltage conditions. The THD of the grid current caused by grid voltage harmonics is derived by considering the phase delay and magnitude attenuation due to the hardware low-pass filter (LPF). The Cauchy-Schwarz inequality theory is used in order to search more easily for a minimum point of THD. Both the gain and angle of a compensation voltage at the minimum point of THD of the grid current are derived. The negative-sequence components in the three-phase unbalanced grid voltage are cancelled in order to achieve the balanced grid current. The simulation and experimental results show the validity of the proposed control methods.

  • This paper presents an enhanced control strategy which consists of a proportional-integral controller and a repetitive controller (RC) for improving the voltage performance of distributed generation (DG) under nonlinear load conditions. The proposed voltage controller is able to maintain a sinusoidal voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) of the DG regardless of the harmonic voltage drop in the system impedance due to nonlinear load currents. In addition, by employing the delay time of the RC at one-sixth of the fundamental period, the proposed RC can overcome the slow response drawback of the traditional PI-RC. The proposed control strategy is analyzed and the design of the RC is presented in detail. The feasibility of the proposed control strategy is verified through simulation and experimental results.
