This paper deals with frequency analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beams carrying an arbitrary number of Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic dampers, subjected to harmonic loads. Multiple external/internal dampers occurring at the same position along the beam axis, modeling external damping devices and internal damping due to damage or imperfect connections, are considered. The challenge is to handle simultaneous discontinuities of the response, in particular bending-moment/rotation discontinuities at the location of external/internal rotational dampers, shear-force/deflection discontinuities at the location of external/internal translational dampers. Following a generalized function approach, the paper will show that exact closed-form expressions of the frequency response under point/polynomial loads can readily be derived, for any number of dampers. Also, the exact dynamic stiffness matrix and load vector of the beam will be built in a closed analytical form, to be used in a standard assemblage procedure for exact frequency response analysis of frames.
In the paper, a fractional derivative Kelvin-Voigt model describing the dynamic behavior of a special class of fluid viscous dampers, is presented. First of all, in order to verify their mechanical properties, two devices were tested the former behaving as a pure damper (PD device), whereas the latter as an elastic-damping device (ED device). For both, quasi-static and dynamic tests were carried out under imposed displacement control. Secondarily, in order to describe their cyclical behavior, a model composed by an elastic and a damping element connected in parallel was defined. The elastic force was assumed as a linear function of the displacement whereas the damping one was expressed by a fractional derivative of the displacement. By setting an appropriate numerical algorithm, the model parameters (fractional derivative order, damping coefficient and elastic stiffness) were identified by experimental results. The estimated values allowed to outline the main parameter properties on which depend both the elastic as well as the damping behavior of the considered devices.
A mathematical analysis has been carried out for understanding the traversal attributes of torsional waves in a Voigt-type viscoelastic porous layer bounded with corrugated surfaces resting over a heterogeneous transversely isotropic gravitating semi-infinite medium. Both the media are assumed to be under the effect of initial stresses acting along horizontal directions. In the presumed geometry, continuous and periodic type of corrugation has been considered. The condensed form of dispersion relation has been obtained analytically with the aid of the Whittaker's function and suitable boundary conditions. The influence of viscoelasticity, porosity, initial stresses, heterogeneity, gravity, undulation and position parameters on the phase and damped velocities has been illustrated graphically. In addition, relative examination investigating the impact of corrugated and planar bounded surfaces on the dispersion and damping characteristics is one of the important highlights of this study.

Spectroscopies are the most widely used for understanding the crystallographic, chemical, and physical aspects of materials; therefore, numerous commercial and non-commercial software have been introduced to help researchers better handling their spectroscopic data. However, not many researchers, especially early-stage ones, have a proper background knowledge on the choice of fitting functions and a technique for actual fitting, although the essence of such data analysis is peak fitting. In this regard, we present a practical guide for peak fitting for data analysis. We start with a basic-level theoretical background why and how a certain protocol for peak fitting works, followed by a step-by-step visualized demonstration how an actual fitting is performed. We expect that this contribution is sure to help many active researchers in the discipline of materials science better handle their spectroscopic data.
van Dokkum and Conroy revisited the strong Na I lines at $8200{\AA}$ found in some giant elliptical galaxies and interpreted it as evidence for bottom-heavy initial mass function. Jeong et al. later found a lot of galaxies showing strong Na D doublet absorption line at $5900{\AA}$ (Na D excess objects; a.k.a. NEOs) and showed that their origins can be different for different types of galaxies. While the excess in Na D seems related with interstellar medium in late-type galaxies, smooth-looking early-type NEOs suggest no compelling sign of ISM contributions. To test this finding, we measured doppler shift in the Na D line. We hypothesized that ISM is more likely to show blueshift due to outflow caused by either star formation or AGN activities. In order to measure the doppler shift, we tried both Gaussian and Voigt functions to fit each galaxy spectrum near the Na D line. We found that Voigt profiles reproduce the shapes of the Na D lines markedly better. Many of late-type NEOs clearly show blueshift in their Na D lines, which is consistent with the former interpretation that the Na D excess found in them is related with star formation-caused gas outflow. On the contrary, early-type NEOs do not show any notable doppler component, which is also consistent with the interpretation of Jeong et al. that the Na D excess in early-type NEOs is likely not related with ISM activities but purely stellar in origin.

This paper aims to present a new method for obtaining an analytical solution for the Kaniadakis Doppler broadening (KDB) function. Also, in this work, we report the computational efficiencies of this solution compared with the numerical one. The solution of the differential equation achieved in this paper is free of approximations and is, consequently, a more robust methodology for obtaining an analytical representation of ψk. Moreover, the results show an improvement in efficiency using the analytical approximation, indicating that it may be helpful in different applications that require the calculation of the deformed Doppler broadening function.
The nano-scale crystallite sizes of uranium oxide powders in simulated spent fuel were measured by the neutron diffraction line broadening method in order to analyze the sintering behavior of the dry process fuel. The mixed $UO_2$ and fission product powders were dry-milled in an attritor for 30, 60, and 120 min. The diffraction patterns of the powders were obtained by using the high resolution powder diffractometer in the HANARO research reactor. Diffraction line broadening due to crystallite size was measured using various techniques such as the Stokes' deconvolution, profile fitting methods using Cauchy function, Gaussian function, and Voigt function, and the Warren-Averbach method. The non-uniform strain, stacking fault and twin probability were measured using the information from the diffraction pattern. The realistic crystallite size could be obtained after separation of the contribution from the non-uniform strain, stacking fault and twin.
In this paper, using perturbation and Galerkin method, the response of a resonant viscoelastic microbeam to an electric actuation is obtained. The microbeam is under axial load and electrical load. It is assumed that midplane is stretched, when the beam is deflected. The equation of motion is derived using the Newton's second law. The viscoelastic model is taken to be the Kelvin-Voigt model. In the first section, the static deflection is obtained using the Galerkin method. Exact linear symmetric mode shape of a straight beam and its deflection function under constant transverse load are used as admissible functions. So, an analytical expression that describes the static deflection at all points is obtained. Comparing the result with previous research show that using deflection function as admissible function decreases the computation errors and previous calculations volume. In the second section, the response of a microbeam resonator system under primary and secondary resonance excitation has been obtained by analytical multiple scale perturbation method combined with the Galerkin method. It is shown, that a small amount of viscoelastic damping has an important effect and causes to decrease the maximum amplitude of response, and to shift the resonance frequency. Also, it shown, that an increase of the DC voltage, ratio of the air gap to the microbeam thickness, tensile axial load, would increase the effect of viscoelastic damping, and an increase of the compressive axial load would decrease the effect of viscoelastic damping.
To evaluate the cooling rate of clinker quantitatively, several clinkers with different cooling rate were made in the laboratory. The X-ray diffraction pattern of Ferrite 002 reflection were measured and the parameters were calculated by using split type pseudo-Voigt function. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the Ferrite phase in the clinkers from cement manufacturing plant were analyzed by using the parameters and the analysis program was developed to calculate the cooling rate quantitatively. The cooling rate coefficients of the clinkers were calculated by using the profile fitting method of the program and the influence of cooling rate on strength was evaluated. The results show that there is a close relation between the cooling rate of clinker and the strength of cement.
This article deals with the frequency analysis of viscoelastic sandwich disk with graphene nano-platelets (GPLs) reinforced viscoelastic concrete (GPLRVC) face sheets and honeycomb core. The honeycomb core is made of aluminum due to its low weight and high stiffness. The rule of the mixture and modified Halpin-Tsai model are engaged to provide the effective material constant of the concrete. By employing Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of the structure are derived and solved with the aid of the Generalize Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM). In this paper, viscoelastic properties are modeled according to Kelvin-Voigt viscoelasticity. The deflection as the function of time can be solved by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta numerical method. Afterward, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the effects of the outer to inner radius ratio, hexagonal core angle, thickness to length ratio of the concrete, the weight fraction of GPLs into concrete, and the thickness of honeycomb core to inner radius ratio on the frequency of the viscoelastic sandwich disk with honeycomb core and FG-GPLRVC face sheet.
