  • The recently-released camera modules assembled into high-end handsets generally carry auto focusing function. The resolution size of the camera modules is getting higher, and customers demand more precise and stable auto focusing function. When auto focusing function is getting performed, the camera modules applied to VCM usually have the problems, which are an error of lens focusing position and resolution deviation according to the shift of one's position. For this reason, I propose Hybrid VCM that has an improved structure for a stable work of actuator and higher resolution level.

  • This paper proposes small VCM(voice coil motor) type, auto-focusing and zoom actuators for mobile information devices. In order to meet the large output displacement within small height restriction, the proposed auto-focusing actuator adopts curved suspensions, which are similar to a leaf-spring type suspension of optical disk drives. The sensitivity of design parameters on output displacement and dynamic performance is implemented using ANSYS (3D FEM tool) to determine the optimal geometry and stiffness of the curved suspensions. This paper also investigates a new zoom actuator without a suspension supporting a bobbin. The zoom actuator uses a moving rail and a stoper mechanism by generating rotational force at lens holder. Magnetic flux density of the zoom actuator are calculated by both the FEM and permeance method. Experiments using prototypes of the proposed focusing and zoom models show that both actuators meet the required displacement and performance.

  • Solenoid diaphragm fuel pump, which to replace mechanical fuel pump system by utilizing cam-shaft driving force, is in the spotlight for being a high efficient green car component. However, there is a drawback in power consumption as a solenoid diaphragm fuel pump only relies on solenoid for its flux needed in reciprocating motion. Therefore, this research proposes permanent magnet type VCM (Voice Coil Motor) fuel pump system to minimized power consumption. Furthermore, the study compares and analyzes power consumption and dynamic performance between the current and the former solenoid diaphragm pump by conducting finite element analysis with the commercial electromagnetic solver, MAXWELL.

  • Semiconductor piezoresistive type vibration sensor was fabricated by using semiconductor process and micromachining technology. To measure the micro electromagnetic force between coil and magnet, fabricated vibration sensor was used. Toapply micro electromagnetic force produced from the micro exciter, small-sized NdFeB permanent magnet was attached on the mass of the fabricated vibration sensor. The measured electromagnetic force are about 5~180dyne when the applied sinusoidal current of 1KHz in the range of 1.5~8mA. The measurement of micro electromagnetic forcewas performed by changing the distance between coil and magnet. Output characteristics of micro electromagnetic force according to the applied coil current were linear. Furthermore, output results were used to get the transfer constant that is important to decide the efficiency and the performance of the coil and magnet.

  • In order to use a linear vibration motor for the actuator of a haptic interface, the motor must provide a higher reaction rate and longer service life than typical rotational motors with an eccentric mass. In this paper, we propose a linear vibration motor that is equipped with a voice-coil actuator and permanent-magnet springs. To concentrate the magnetic flux in the actuator, a Halbach-style magnetization pattern is used. Permanent-magnet springs replace mechanical springs to help increase the service life. We use the method of equivalent current sheets and the method of images to analyze and model the proposed vibration motor. These methods are validated using finite element analyses and experiments. A prototype motor is designed and fabricated. Tests with the prototype show the feasibility of the proposed linear vibration motor.

  • In this study, optimal design of direct-drive VCMs (Voice Coil Motor) for a missile fin actuator is carried out. The torque performance and the characteristics of the VCM are predicted by commercial electromagnetic analysis software, ANSYS Maxwell. The optimal design is obtained at the minimum and maximum actuating angles where the aerodynamic load acting on the fin is the largest in the operating range. The critical variables of the actuator is designed and the RSM (Response Surface Method) is used for the optimization. The response surface model consists of second-order functions and its experimental points are selected by a central composite design. This design is widely used for fitting a second-order response surface. The adjustment regression coefficients is computed for adequacy checking of the response surface model. Finally, the torque values obtained by the RSM and the ANSYS Maxwell are shown in good agreement.

  • This paper discusses the solution to the precise positioning control problem applied to a simple model of a dual stage or redundant positioner. The dual stage actuator presented here uses a VCM(Voice Coil Motor) as a coarse actuator and a piezoelectric actuator as a fine actuator. By adopting controllers with two-degree-of-freedom and by optimizing H$_{2}$ faster precise tracking can be realized. Experimental and numerical results are presented to demonstrate the control effects.

Control performances are evaluated by computer simulation and theoretical analysis is validated by experiments. From this study, it is proved that the LMVCA can be applied easily to the control system and suppress vibration effectively.

  • This paper is concerned with the active control experiments on elevator vibrations by means of the active roller guide. To this end, a roller guide was designed using a voice-coil actuator and linear guide. A simple proportional control algorithm combined with the band-pass filter was implemented using the DSP. Based on the initial experiments, a new control system which can handle lateral and front-back vibrations of elevator was built and tested using the elevator test tower. The experimental results show that the elevator vibrations are reduced by the active control technique.
