Implementation of Audio Equalization in Video-on-Demand Broadcast Content

  • In this paper, we develop the system for audio volume equalization of video on demand(VoD) content and propose the solution for it. In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of VoD users in addition to linear channels. However, viewers ought to sit in an uncomfortable way, adjusting the volume intermittently while they are broadcasted. Sudden changes of volume occur between the broadcasting channels, the programs from the co-channel, or the linear channels and the VoDs. Especially, upsurged dissatisfaction from the televiewers has been found due to the unequalized volume when shifting between the linear channel and the VoD. In order to solve this problem, multilateral efforts were put forth, such as a system for keeping the volume at a certain level in digital broadcasting program has been legislated domestically. It leads success in equalizing linear channel volume. On contrary, too little notice has been taken for distorted volume problem of video on demand(VoD) content. In this paper, we developed and applied the volume equalization system into VoD content to achieve uniformization, a similar condition with linear channel(-24LKFS). This suggestion helped uneven current of volume which was in the stage -16 ~ -20LKFS to stable condition by lowering into the stage of -24LKFS. It also brought 20% increase in perspective of volume quality satisfaction level.

The Design of Fault Tolerant VoD System (결함 허용성을 고려한 VoD 시스템 설계)

  • 본 논문은 분산 환경에서 결함 허용성 있는 VoD서비스를 위한 결함 처리 방법을 제안하고 성능을 측정하였다. 디스크 결함, 서버 결함, 시스템 결함에 따른 결함 체크와 처리 방법을 제시하였다. 사용자에게 신뢰성과 실시간성을 보장하기 위한 서버 스위칭 방법을 제안하였다. 서버 스위칭 방법은 결함이 발생하지 않은 서버들의 여유 로드율에 따라 달라진다. 서버 스위칭이 일어나는 동안 클라이언트의 버퍼에 적정량의 데이터를 유지하기 위한 흐름제어 기법도 제시하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법을 통해 결함일 발생함에도 불구하고 클라이언트는 서비스의 중단 없이 VoD 서비스르 제공 받을 수 있다.

Optimization of a Double Patching Technique for True Video-on-Demand Services (True VoD 서비스를 위한 더블 패칭 기법의 최적화)

  • Double Patching is a multicasting technique for a VoD system which has been proposed to provide a true VoD service by making clients share a long patching stream as well as a regular stream For subsequent short patching streams, the technique always makes the long patching stream have extra data that will be played back during a double period of a patching window. In this paper, we propose a technique, using the start time of the latest short patching stream, optimizes Double Patching by deleting the useless data included in the long patching stream when the patching window of the long patching stream closes. The mean requirement for the server's bandwidth to provide the true VoD service is used as a performance metric, and the effect of the request inter-arrival time, the size of the client's local buffer and the video length on the mean bandwidth requirement is evaluated. Performance evaluation result shows that the proposed technique optimizes Double Patching in all cases.

  • In this paper, H.235 based security mechanism for H.323 multimedia applications was implemented in embedded environment. H.235 covers authentication using HMAC-SHAI -96, authenticated Diffie-Hellman key exchange, security capability exchange, session key management for voice encryption, and encryption functions such as DES, 3DES, RC2. H.235-based mechanisms were also analyzed in terms of its security and possible attacks.

  • This paper proposes a approach to configure efficient video-on-demand system by introducing Multicast and Cache Video-on-Demand (MCVoD) system. As a key element or the MCVoD system, interchange agent provides this system with multicasting and switching functions. With the multicasting, the MCVoD system is able to reduce the load on the network as well as VoD servers by transmitting only one video request instead of sending multiple requests on a same video stream. The switching enables clients to receive the lust stream of requested video streams instantly without waiting time and also allows avoiding undesirable duplication of video streams in the system. With various experiment results through simulation about waiting tine and cache hit ratio, we show that the MCVoD system employing the interchange agent provides better performance than current uni-proxy based system.

High-Luminous Efficiency Full-Color Emitting $GdVO_4$:Eu, Er, Tm Phosphor Thin Films

  • High-luminous efficiency full-color emissions in photoluminescence (PL) were obtained in $GdVO_4$ phosphor thin films co-doped with various amounts of Eu, Er and/or Tm and postannealed at approximately 1000$^{\circ}C$. The $GdVO_4$:Eu,Er,Tm phosphor thin films were deposited on thick $BaTiO_3$ ceramic sheets by r.f. magnetron sputtering using powder targets and postannealed in an air atmosphere. The rare earth (RE) content (RE/(Gd+V+RE) atomic ratio) in the oxide phosphor thin films was varied in the range from 0.1 to 2 at.%. It was found that the excitation of $GdVO_4$:Eu.Er,Tm thin films is attributed to band-to-band transition. A white PL emission was obtained in a $GdVO_4$:Eu,Er,Tm thin film with Eu, Er and Tm contents of 0.2, 0.7 and 1 at.%, respectively: CIE chromaticity color coordinates. (X=0.352 and Y=0.351). In addition, a white emission was obtained in a thin-film electroluminescent (TFEL) device made with this thin film.

Correlation Effects in Superconducting $Sr_2VO_3FeAs$ (초전도 $Sr_2VO_3FeAs$에서 상관효과)

  • In the superconducting $Sr_2VO_3FeAs$, containing bimetallic layers, with maximum $T_c{\approx}\;46\;K$ correlation effects on V ions have been investigated using LDA+U method. Within the local density approximation (LDA) this system has the one-third filled $t_{2g}$ manifold of V, decomposed into $d_{xy}$ of bandwidth W=2 eV and nearly degenerate $d_{zx}d_{yz}$ of W=1 eV. Consideration of correlation effects leads to a metal-insulator transition on V ions $t^{2\uparrow}_{2g}\;{\rightarrow}\;d^{1\uparrow}_{xz}\;d^{1\uparrow}_{yz}$ at the critical on-site Coulomb repulsion $U_c$= 3.5 eV. At U=4 eV, the electronic structure, in which V ions are insulating, leads to several van Hove singularities near $E_F$ and similar Fermiology with other pnictides. Applying U to V ions results in increasing Fe moment as well as V moment, indicating somewhat hybridization between Fe and V ions even though this system is strongly 2-dimesional. Our results show possible importance of correlation effects on this system.

  • 고화질의 VoD 서비스를 위한 차세대 인터넷 서버는 디스크 컨트룰러, 네트워크 어댑터와 메모리를 하나의 하드웨어에 집적한 네트워크 스토리지 카드를 기본으로 리눅스 환경에서 개발되었다. 본 시스템에서 제공하는 입출력 경로를 리눅스에서 사용되고 있는 EXT3 파일시스템과 호환이 되도록 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 파일시스템은 기존의 EXT3 파일시스템의 기능을 그대로 사용하면서 대용량의 고화질 멀티미디어 데이터를 고속으로 처리하고, 시스템의 자원을 최소로 사용하면서 VoD 서비스에서 요구하는 데이터 입출력 처리 성능을 제공한다. 본 논문에서는 차세대 인터넷 서버 환경에서 개발된 멀티미디어 파일시스템의 설계, 구현 내용과 성능을 기술한다.

  • 최근 VoD와 같은 멀티미디어 응용 프로그램에 대한 관심이 증가함에 따라 이에 많은 연구가 진행되고 있는데, 이중에서도 제한적인 네트워크 자원에 적합한 멀티캐스트 전송에 대한 연구가 관심을 끌고 있다. VoD 멀티미디어 응용프로그램은 사용자가 선택한 비디오를 서버가 사용자에게 실시간으로 전송하여 재생하는 것 외에도 일시정지, 재시작, 빨리 감기, 되감기와 같은 VCR 기능을 지원해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 멀티캐스트 환경의 VoD 시스템에서 VCR 기능을 지원하는 방법을 제시하고 있다. 많은 사용자가 비슷한 시기에 VCR 요청을 하는 경우 개별적인 유니캐스트 채널을 통해 서비스하지 않고, 하나의 멀티캐스트 채널을 여러 사용자가 공유하여 서비스 받기 때문에, 제한적인 네트워크 환경에서 효율적인 방식이다.

Peer-to-Peer Video-on-Demand with Distributed Cache

  • It is difficult to provide a video on demand (VoD) service to a large number of users via the Internet. This is due to the characteristics of VoD, which require a large bandwidth for a long playing time. The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) concept is proposed to increase the scalability of the VoD service. Many studies have been undertaken to solve this problem. But its success is still quite limited technically, these research have been deployed in a rush, mostly based on practicality and instability. A system which uses a distributed VoD streaming scheme over P2P network is proposed to support media streaming.
