  • The current comparison methods with scoring systems that are used to compare visualized latent fingerprints (LF) have disadvantages. Evaluators using these methods are prone to make errors and fail to discriminate LFs correctly to notice the differences among those LFs. Therefore, a comparative and quantitative evaluation method that is capable of obtaining more objective and quantitative results is needed. Densitometric image analysis (DIA) is used in other fields as a reliable semi-quantitative comparison method. To apply DIA to LFs, the potential variables that can occur during the DIA process were tested. The visualized ridges of LFs can be compared using the concentration of dots against the background to make it possible to analyze the ridges with DIA. The variables that can be present during the DIA process include the thickness of the analysis line, the number of ridges to be taken, the number of divided zones within each of the fingerprints, and the angles of the analysis line against the ridge lines that were selected. From the analysis of the inked fingerprints and circular lines that are similar to fingerprints, the angle of the analysis lines with the ridge line was the most significant variable. The preliminary test result was applied to the comparison of LFs that were developed with the powder method and then compared with the AFIS analysis. A similar trend was found, and a more detailed and semi-quantitative comparison of the visualized LFs was possible. In the future, it is necessary to check the evaluative ability of the DIA method by analyzing the visualized LFs with other various development methods. However, DIA is currently an option that can be used as an objective comparative evaluation method during fingerprint studies with supplementary role.

  • The many studies have been proceeding to express accurately the feature of a sudden signal and a uncertain system in the image processing field. It is well know that Fourier Transform is widely used for frequency analysis of any signal. However, The frequency transform domain is not used for expressing the sudden signal change and non-stationary signal at the time-axis by this method. This paper describes of image analysis by discrete wavelet transform. Wavelet modulus maxima on transformed plane gives the Lipschitz exponent expression, which is useful to examine the characteristics of signal or the edge of an image. It is possible to reconstruct the original image only using the few maxima points. The fractal analysis is applied as an examples. The visualized image of oil flow on a ship model is analyzed. The fractal variable is obtained by the maxima analysis and the good results on the exprement is obtained by the visualized image analysis.

  • Borehole image analysis has been carried out to obtain the detailed geological data by approach of direct observation. Direct application of borehole image analysis inevitably gives rise to a few of restriction of data acquisition due to the limited information within narrow borehole space. Considering the apparent dip of discontinuity surface depending upon the direction, the visualized program of two-dimensional subsurface discontinuities is coded. Borehole image analysis can compensate the distribution of subsurface discontinuity extending into the expected area of investigation. In order to draw subsurface profile in the proposed area of subsurface construction, visualized program is coded as a window GUI (Graphic User Interface) using Fortran and Visual Basic Programming languages. It is to open publicly for the usage of whoever is in want. Discontinuity distribution map is visualized along the Proposed line of tunnel in the Janggye-ri area, Jangsu-gun. Using the visualized program, the limited information from borehole spatially applies into analysis of overall subsurface structures, and the distributional characteristics of discontinuity anticipate at the proposed area. In addition, spacing and extension of joint and depth of discontinuity effecting tunnel safety can be visualized along the direction of the proposed tunnel. These lines of visualization apply design and construction of fundanmental structures.

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the spatial relationship of temporomandibular joint and to an aid in the diagnosis of temporomandibular disorder. For this study, three-dimensional images of normal temporomandibular joints were reconstructed by computer image analysis system and three-dimensional reconstructive program integrated in computed tomography. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Two-dimensional computed tomograms had the better resolution than three dimensional computed tomograms in the evaluation of bone structure and the disk of TMJ. 2. Direct sagittal computed tomograms and coronal computed tomograms had the better resolution in the evaluation of the disk of TMJ. 3. The positional relationship of the disk could be visualized, but the configuration of the disk could not be clearly visualized on three-dimensional reconstructive CT images. 4. Three-dimensional reconstructive CT images had the smoother margin than three-dimensional images reconstructed by computer image analysis system, but the images of the latter had the better perspective. 5. Three-dimensional reconstructive images had the better spatial relationship of the TMJ articulation, and the joint spaces were more clearly visualized on dissection images.

  • In this paper we propose a fractal analysis based on the discrete wavelet transform. It is well known that Fourier Transform is widely used for frequency analysis of random signal. However, the frequency domain is not used for expressing the sudden signal change and non-stationary signal at the time-axis by this method. Maximum value in the wavelet modules can be expressed by the Lipschitz exponent, which is useful to represent the characteristics of signal or the edge of an image. It is possible to reconstruct the original image only by using the few maximum points. The v possible image It iusing oil was acquired to interpret the maximum value. ufter that, it was applied to the v possible image of a ship model. In addition, the fractal dimens by by the conlapse process of the sediment particle was examined. In this paper, the fractal dimens by has been obtained by the maximum value and the experiment obtained from the visualized image also acquired the same result as existing methods.

  • We developed a user-friendly, interactive program to simultaneously cluster and visualize omics data, such as DNA and protein array profiles. This program provides diverse algorithms for the hierarchical clustering of two-dimensional data. The clustering results can be interactively visualized and optimized on a heatmap. The present tool does not require any prior knowledge of scripting languages to carry out the data clustering and visualization. Furthermore, the heatmaps allow the selective display of data points satisfying user-defined criteria. For example, a clustered heatmap of experimental values can be differentially visualized based on statistical values, such as p-values. Including diverse menu-based display options, QCanvas provides a convenient graphical user interface for pattern analysis and visualization with high-quality graphics.
