  • An x-ray PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique was developed fur measuring quantitative information on flows inside opaque conduits and/or opaque-fluid flows. To check the performance of the x-ray PIV technique developed, it was applied to a liquid flow in an opaque Teflon tube. To acquire x-ray images suitable for PIV velocity field measurements, the refraction-based edge enhancement mechanism was employed with seeding detectable tracer particles. The amassed velocity field data obtained were in a reasonable agreement with the theoretical prediction. The x-ray PIV technique was also applied to get velocity fields of blood flow and to measure size and velocity of micro-bubbles simultaneously, and to visualize the water refilling process in bamboo leaves. The x-ray PIV was found to be a powerful transmission-type flow imaging technique fur measuring quantitative information of flows inside opaque objects and various opaque-fluid flows.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate the current concepts in holographic tomography (HT) realized within limited angular range with illumination scanning. The presented solutions are based on the work performed at Warsaw University of Technology in Poland and put in context with the state of the art in HT. Along with the theoretical framework for HT, the optimum reconstruction process and data visualization are described in detail. The paper is concluded with the description of hardware configuration and the visualization of tomographic reconstruction, which is calculated using a provided processing path.

  • Compared to the significant approach of project-based learning research, a data-driven design project-based learning has not reached a meaningful consensus regarding the most valid and reliable method for assessing design creativity. This article proposes an advanced information data-interactive learning system for creative design using a service design process that combines a design thinking. We propose a service framework to improve the convergence design process between students and advanced information data analysis, allowing students to participate actively in the data visualization and research using patent data. Solving a design problem by discovery and interpretation process, the Advanced information-interactive learning framework allows the students to verify the creative idea values or to ideate new factors and the associated various feasible solutions. The student can perform the patent data according to a business intelligence platform. Most of the new ideas for solving design projects are evaluated through complete patent data analysis and visualization in the beginning of the service design process. In this article, we propose to adapt advanced information data to educate the service design process, allowing the students to evaluate their own idea and define the problems iteratively until satisfaction. Quantitative evaluation results have shown that the advanced information data-driven learning system approach can improve the design project - based learning results in terms of design creativity. Our findings can contribute to data-driven project-based learning for advanced information data that play a crucial role in convergence design in related standards and other smart educational fields that are linked.

  • In this paper, a medical image processing system was designed and implemented for morphometric and functional analysis of a human brain. The system is composed of image registration, ROI(region of interest) analysis, functional analysis, image visualization, 3D medical image database management system(DBMS), and database. The software processes an anatomical and functional image as input data, and provides visual and quantitative results. Input data and intermediate or final output data are stored to the database as several data types by the DBMS for other further image processing. In the experiment, the ROI analysis, for a normal, a tumor, a Parkinson's decease, and a depression case, showed that the system is useful for morphometric and functional analysis of a human brain.

  • This study is for the multi-dimensional analysis of diverse data sets for artificial reefs off the coast of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan. Various data sets recorded in artificial reefs ground were integrated in new GIS software: to reveal the relationships between water temperature and fish schools; to visualize the quantitative connection between the reefs and the fish schools; and to compare the seabed types derived from two different data sources. The results obtained suggest that the application of GIS in analyzing multi-dimensional data is a better way to understand the characteristics of fish schools and environmental information around artificial reefs and particularly in the evaluation of the effectiveness of artificial reefs.

  • Animation technique from the PIV database is particularly emphasized to give macroscopic and quantitative description of complex flow fields. This paper shows animation construction and application example for the post-processing of PIV data. As examples, first case is a pitching airfoil immersed in tree surface water circulating tunnel. Second case is a wake of a model-ship. Third case of PIV data is a large scale surface flow field. Obtained images are processed in time sequence by PIV exclusive routines where an efficient and reliable cross correlation algorithm is included for vector identification. All. animation Jobs are implemented completely on single personal computer environment. Compressed digital images are obtained initially by Motion-JPEG board and various An files are finally obtained through graphic processes.

  • The fluidic thrust vector control using co-flowing coanda effect of secondary jet at the nozzle exit is a new concept for efficient thrust vectoring of supersonic jet exhausts. Flow visualization of the flow fields in previous studies have shown some pros and cons of the technique, however, most of the observations were somewhat limited as qualitative data. The present study was designed to evaluate the quantitative performance-characteristics of the thrust-vectoring technique utilizing coanda effects of the secondary jet. Details of design of the test device and calibration/data reduction procedure are provided.

  • The statistical graphics is a design field focusing on the user perception aspects for the correct information delivery and the effective understanding, with the use of the quantitative data through the information analysis, extraction, visualization process. The statistical graphics with the big data composition factor is termed as the statistical big data graphics. In the statistical graphics the visual factors are used to reduce the errors in the perception part and to successfully deliver the information. However, in the statistical big data graphics the visual factors of the enormous data are causing the cognitive discouragements. The purpose of this study is to extract the cognitive discouragement factors from the big data statistical graphics, categorizing the types of the statistical big data graphics as 'network type', 'segment type', and 'mixed type', based on their compositional shapes, and explored the characteristics according to them. Especially, based on the visual main factors in the statistical big data graphics, We extracted the cognitive discouragement factors that appear in the high visualization as the four categories: 'multi-dimensional cases', 'various color', 'information overlap', and 'legibility of the writing'.

  • IR thermography is a non-invasive method and used for the visualization of the surface temperature of the model. However, this technique only derives 2D results and not quantitative data. The goal of this study is to apply the 3D mapping technique for IR thermography. The wind tunnel model is an ogive-cylinder with a wind speed of 20 m/s ~ 80 m/s and the angle of attack ranging from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. The real location of the model was made to correspond with the position of the IR image using the makers. Based on this result, quantitative results were obtained. The 3D mapping method was verified by comparing the separation point and the theoretical value.

  • At present, an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) is one of the most suitable tools for measurement of three dimensional flow characteristics in the river. The data resulting from this approach can be used for flow visualization and velocity mapping together with post-processing software tools. Among them, 'adcptools' is the latest one and provides more realistic velocity distribution in the cross-section since it uses velocity along the beam direction. In this study, a flow analysis was made using the 'adcptools' for the Amazon River and the Han River dataset. Discharge was recalculated and accuracy of discharge and velocity was evaluated. Streamwise velocity distribution and secondary flow pattern in cross-sections were visualized. Geo-referenced velocity distribution was also mapped. A summary with future prospect of 'adcptools' for studies on fluvial geomorphology is briefly given.
