This study looked at how New Zealand's national brand is expressed in fashion design. In other words, the objective of this study was to offer a research methodology about the process that the conceptual national brand materializes through design. The method used in this research was the review of previous literature and research reports for New Zealand national branding. A direct market survey on the characteristics of fashion brands in each travel destination was conducted from February 2017 to February 2018. New Zealand announced its slogan for the national brand '100% pure New Zealand' in 1999, and in 2003 it announced the slogan 'new thinking New Zealand' with the value of 'newness' and 'innovation'. It also has 'Maori branding'. The study found that the three slogans had a consistent link from keywords to associated visual images. The above results were compared to the reminiscent visual images extracted from the website contents of the fashion brand. Then, using a t-shirt as an item, the t-shirt corresponding to each group was classified, and the design element analyzed. As a result, the four groups showed images of 'New Zealand ecology image', 'ethnic & Kiwiana image', 'nostalgic travel image' and 'pop image'.

In the post-information era, most of technologies have a visual part, or at least some functions related to visualization. It is also one of the popular means of presenting materials in education area. However, despite its popularity, the impact of visualization on the effectiveness of learning still remains controversial. Even more controversial is its usefulness in developing creativity, which is one of the most important skills for today's employee. The authors considered the use of visualization as a tool for the development of children's creativity on the example of learning video games, in particular, ClassCraft to distinguish features that, from the point of view of psychology, may lead to developing creativity even being not useful for educational purposes. It is concluded that video games useful for learning may have features, that are inappropriate in formal educational context, but important to develop creative thinking.

This study is meaningful in figuring out how much the Korean people's awareness of hanok has increased even though interest in hanok has also increased due to the Korean Wave craze. Therefore, with respect to the exterior of hanok, which is visually recognized first, the level of experts and ordinary people is grasped through a semantic discrimination scale, and the degree of visual recognition is to be investigated centering on the color image of hanok buildings. This is the process of thinking about how the Korean image should be reflected in the design, and we want to suggest the direction that modern hanok should go. The study compared and analyzed the difference in visual color based on the elevation of the hanok using a 7-point and 5-point scale method for the general public and experts, and utilized the IRI adjective vocabulary scale and the color matching image scale to construct new hanoks with insufficient differences in appearance and shape. It can be applied to design and image preservation and construction of existing hanok.

The aesthetic sense in the orient contains both the truth and virtue. 2) The beauty of the mean It's from the thought of neutralization of Confucius. The mean or moderation state which in harmony with ethical virtue and aes-thetic beauty is the ideal and is the ultimate. Therefore the thought of Confucian is the creativity in which the balance and the har-mony is most important. Fashion design is also one of the representation of the mean because the spirit of the designer is harmonized for-mlessly with the object of the model of the fashion design. 2) The beauty of skillfulness It indicates the Taoism of Lao-tzu and Chuangtzu. It takes a super-artistic declar-ation that human can feel and recognize the color of colorlessness the sound of sound-lessness and the taste of tastelessness. The thought of arts affected by Taoism is 'ad-vanced age' called the beauty of skillfulness. The view of arts of lao-tzu takes the beauty of cosmos and the nature as a standard. Es-pecially the beauty of inactivity is recognized by the linkage between the beauty and the ugliness. And these things appear in fashion design as a design element such as humor or exaggeration. 3) The beauty of non-dualism It is thought of Buddhism that all evil passions of worry occur form the opposition in dualism. Finally this thought leads to that everything is consistent and truth is only one from the point of view that virtue and vice has on linkage that is 'no virtues no vices' and 'one with two, two, with one, one is not two' A big tendency like this became the root forma-tion of the thought of the oriental arts. 3. Characteristics of the oriental aesthetic sense on the present fashion design 1) The formation of the fashion design on the oriental elements In the picture-incantation which was a representation of an era when the thought of 'cosmic dual forces' dominated the basic polygons of 'a circle square triangle' means both 'one two three' and 'the negative positive mean' of cosmic elements. A thought of Buddhism which is 'Colors are colorlessness and Clolorlessness are color's proves that. 3) The pattern and symbolic representation of the fashion design on the oriental elements The pattern as a visual style is a figure of symbolic representation which adopt the mental and physical world of human and are the compo-sition of artistic revelation of the human nature and the religous thought of incantation. Es-pecially the symbolic representation of the oriental thought of Confusion. Buddhism and Taoism There are patterns such as plants aminals the oriental four gods and geometry. From the above it's the time toward the 21'th century when the world is constructing one global area and one historical zone. And the exotic mood of the Orient represented in the fashion which doesn't make the common feeling in general does not cease to develop only to express the visual modeling but also adopts the thought religion and the art which are the root of the Orientail and contains inherent willing of modeling.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the symbolic meaning of the Tiger in Korean Folk Paintings, Minhwa, (hereafter, Minhwa) connected to its social contexts in Joseon period. Thinking of the Tiger Minhwa as a 'visual language' and regard the Tiger as a 'visual signifier' as well as the united-signifiers such as a Korean magpie, pine tree and so on in Minhwa. This research is to analyze these signifieds, 'Signified', what we say in this paper, have composed its symbolic meaning related to the social 'ideological complexes' and collective consciousness during Joseon period. In a word, the characteristic of the Tiger signifier has changed and spread out from the ideal trend to a worldly one. Since the late Joseon period, the change of the social contexts was, because of the civil classes who recognized the limitation of the Sung Confucianism(the doctrines of $Chi-Tz\={u}$), the predominated ideology of that time. To get rid of their uneasiness, they brought the Shamanism, Taoism and Buddhism at the front which were usually the lower class ideology or belief and tried to construct the collective consciousness and safety of their real lives. Therefore, the trend of this 'common conceptualization' show us the positiveness and flexibility to the Tiger signifier through the variation, appropriation and producing signifier. Moreover, even to the same Tiger, there were various meanings and most of them were concentrated in the meanings as follows ; Beoksa(in Korean term is to drive away evil spirits) and Gilsang, which is the good omen of a luck. All these were based on the value of 'this world'. In conclusion, through this research, the concept of the Tiger as a apotheosis has lowered its statutes and being secularized.

Programming education in the area of ICT instruction is usually considered as contributing to the improvement of one's analytical power, logic in thinking, and procedural problem-solving capabilities. However, it is hard to get access to adequate web coursewares in suit with their intellectual level of development of Korean elementary students. Most of the existing coursewares, if any, are dealing with high level and theory-oriented contents, and accordingly are quite difficult for the elementary students to understand them. In addition, it is very difficult to practice them on the Web. Drawing upon some ideas on the theories of Web-based design and learning, this study tries to develop and materialize a fresh learning courseware for Visual Basic. The Web courseware thus developed allows students to learn the basics of visual basic programming as well as the basic grammar. It also provides students with an environment that enables students to code and run programs on the Web.
The postmodern culture since the later 20C breaks downa tradition a relation between the reality and languages or sign images expressing it. Studying on the course of this change, he calls the step that the image escapes from the stage to reflect the reality and become the pure imitation by itself simulation. The image in the stage of simulation is called 'hyperreality' because it doesn't have any an indicator or a substitute and happens by models without the original or the reality. So he asserts that art is not to contain some absoluteness or transcendency as the past, but to be as the spectacle with characteristics of meaningless, emptiness, contingency. Lacan dismantles the concept of the absolute Cogito to have become the center of the western ideology, and creates the concept of 'Other'. He concludes also the reality exists but can't be captured, and it's impossible for the thinking subject can reach it. The concept of new image which can be thought as the Symbolic in Lacan is 'Signifier without Signified' since it isn't possible to be the transcendent Signifier fixing the meaning finally in it. His 'Gaze' theory is which to be emitted in other's area determines the subject. Equally Baudrillard and Lacan sets up the new state of the image through the end of representation system As for Baudrillard, art intends to the worthlessness and is nothing but imagination. But in Lacan a picture represents the subject being in process by the dialectic of desire.
Rhetoric, simply defined, is the art of persuasion. Gui Bonsiepe, Robin Kinross, Hanno, Ehses and Richard Buchanan have all spoken of rhetoric as an element of the theory of design. St. Joost Academy in the Netherlands has tried to present the theory and practice of a new kind of designing based on rhetoric since 1995. Post-St Joost was the name of the experimental graduate programme. They adopted visual rhetoric as a matrix for setting up a new type of exercise and assignment in design education. In this paper, 1 have tried to show that rhetorical approach can play an important role in the development of a view of design as a discipline in its own right. The first chapter looks at the brief history of rhetoric in western culture. And the following chapter focuses on the development of design rhetoric and visual rhetoric in the twentieth century. 1 hope this essay will contribute to find the designerly way of knowing, thinking and doing.
What is the semantic function of visual image in Contemporary art? This article proposes that representation is semantically still important in post-modernism as well as in modernism. The semantic function of representation has been changed by keeping pace with times. In modernism the 'outer representation' changed to 'inner representation', and in postmodernism the 'inner representation' changed to 'metaphorical representation'. The 'outer representation' means that image indicates a certain object or subject as the classical realism. In this case, the meaning of image is subordinate to an object, and a one-to-one correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'outer representation' is focused on an object but subject's intention, the indicative function of meaning is definite and singular. The 'inner representation' means that image exposes the fundamentals or process of an object. In this case, the meaning of image resolves itself into an absolute fundamental, and one-to-many correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'inner representation' is focused on essence and substance but an external form, the indicative function of meaning is inclusive and general. The 'metaphorical representation' means that image critically relates social constraint and condition as metaphor and allegory. In this case, the meaning of image is not subordinate to an object and a subject, and the image and the object indicate interactively. Because this 'metaphorical representation' is focused on interaction between subject, object, and interpreter, the indicative function of meaning is differant and ecological. This article focused on the representation because I believe that continuous thinking of totality can be opened by cognitive mapping, even though we never understand the world totally in the chaotic post modern age.
In order to analyze textbooks from a discursive approach, the purpose of this study is to structuralize an analytic framework based on previous literature review and apply it to analyzing the meanings and their syntheses developed by words and visual mediators appeared in the definition of graph in first-year middle school textbooks. The discursive approach consists of the communicational approach developed by Sfard(2008) and the systemic functional linguistics developed by Halliday(1985/2004). In this study, ideational meta-functions for ideational meanings and interpersonal meta-functions for interpersonal meanings were employed to analyze the meanings produced by words and visual mediators in textbooks, whereas textual meta-functions for textual meanings were used for analyzing the synthesized relationships between words and visual mediators. Results show that first, density in mathematical discourse was very high and subjects in mathematical activities were ambiguous in the ideational meanings of words, and behavior aspect was more emphasized than thinking aspect in the interpersonal meanings of words which request student participations. In the case of ideational meanings of visual mediators, there was a lack of narrative diagrams, whereas there were qualitative differences in the case of offer. Second, there was a need for promoting a wide range of diverse synthetic relationships between words and visual mediators for developing enriched mathematical meanings through the varying uses like specification, explanation, similarity, and complement. These results are so important that they provide a new analytic framework from a discursive approach to textbook analysis because not only words, but also visual mediators are analyzed as tools for producing meanings in mathematics textbooks and their synthetic relationships are also examined.
