시각정보획득과정에 나타난 주사판정과 성별 주시특성 - 지하철 홀 공간을 대상으로 - (Scanning Determination & Observation Features by Sex shown in the Process of Acquiring Visual Information - With the Object of Subway Station Hall Space -)

  • This study has carried out scanning tests in order to figure out the features of scanning search by sex of space users, with the result of which the validity of data has been estimated. In this research, the scanning patterns were set up for verifying the typology of scanning paths and then the reason for determining scanning paths and the validity of estimation method were reviewed. Since the observation features depends on sex, the analysis of visual activities for acquiring any information in a space will reveal the intention and purpose of space users. The findings by analyzing the features of scanning pattern by sex which were found at the determination of scanning patterns can be defined as the followings. First, for estimating the process of space-information search, the movement distance at each point of continuative-observation data from the angle of eye-movement has been extracted, on the ground of which the fixation and movement of eye have been defined for the establishment of scanning-cut characteristics. Second, the scanning times were estimated for the extraction of effective observation data that would be used for comparative analysis, which showed that men had more data (3,398.2/64.4%) than women (2,998.2/55.6%). This enables the acknowledgment that the scanning cut of men was relatively less, which indicates that men will acquire more information on space than women in the process of observing any space. Third, men's scanning times (58.0 times/2.02 seconds) were less than those of women (71.9 times/1.39 seconds) while the scanning time of the former was longer than that of the latter, which shows the feature that it takes longer for men than women in scanning while the scanning times of the former is less than those of the latter. Fourth, the observation features can be determined that the combination of this result with the predominance character by sex for a general viewpoint to be employed indicates that while men employ mixed-scanning for observation activities to acquire space-information spending for longer time, women, by concentrated-scanning, focus on a single point for shorter time or stay at one location for a considerably long time for space-information acquirement.

  • Real-Time Kinematic GPS positioning is widely used for many applications.Resolving ambiguities is the key to precise positioning. Integer ambiguity resolution isthe process of resolving the unknown cycle ambiguities of double difference carrierphase data as integers. Two important issues of resolving are efficiency andreliability. In the conventional search techniques, we generally used chi-squarerandom variables for decision variables. Mathematically, a chi-square random variableis the sum of mutually independent, squared zero-mean unit-variance normal(Gaussian) random variables. With this base knowledge, we can separate decisionvariables to several normal random variables. We showed it with related equationsand conceptual diagrams. With this separation, we can improve the computationalefficiency of the process without losing the needed performance. If we averageseparated normal random variables sequentially, averaged values are also normalrandom variables. So we can use them as decision variables, which prevent from asudden increase of some decision variable. With the method using averaged decisionvalues, we can get the solution more quicklv and more reliably.To verify the performance of our proposed algorithm, we conducted simulations.We used some visual diagrams that are useful for intuitional approach. We analyzedthe performance of the proposed algorithm and compared it to the conventionalmethods.

추출가능 상황에서 전자기기 사용유형에 따른 상대적 위험성평가: 운전 시뮬레이션 연구 (Relative Risk Evaluation of Front-to-Rear-End Collision when Drivers Using Electronic Devices: A Simulation Study)

  • In this driving simulation study, the impairing effects of various types of electronic devices usage(i. e., destination search by using in-vehicle navigation system, TV watching and dialing cellular phone) during driving on front-to-rear-end collision avoidance were investigated. Percentage of collisions, driving speeds when the drivers collided, and initial reaction time for collision avoidance were analyzed and compared as the dependent measures. The results indicated that (1) any types of electronic devices usage during driving induced more serious collision-related impairment than control condition where no additional task was required, and (2) in general, destination search task appeared to impair drivers collision avoidance performance more than the other task requirements in terms of percentage of collisions and initial reaction time for collision avoidance, but TV watching induced most serious collision impact. These results suggested that any types of electronic device usage could distract drivers attention from the primary task of driving, and be resulted in serious outcome in potentially risky situation of front-to-rear-end collision. In particular, mandatory use of eye-hand coordination and receiving feedback seemed to one of essential factor leading the drivers visual attentional distraction.

Real-Time Comprehensive Assistance for Visually Impaired Navigation

  • Individuals with visual impairments face numerous challenges in their daily lives, with navigating streets and public spaces being particularly daunting. The inability to identify safe crossing locations and assess the feasibility of crossing significantly restricts their mobility and independence. Globally, an estimated 285 million people suffer from visual impairment, with 39 million categorized as blind and 246 million as visually impaired, according to the World Health Organization. In Saudi Arabia alone, there are approximately 159 thousand blind individuals, as per unofficial statistics. The profound impact of visual impairments on daily activities underscores the urgent need for solutions to improve mobility and enhance safety. This study aims to address this pressing issue by leveraging computer vision and deep learning techniques to enhance object detection capabilities. Two models were trained to detect objects: one focused on street crossing obstacles, and the other aimed to search for objects. The first model was trained on a dataset comprising 5283 images of road obstacles and traffic signals, annotated to create a labeled dataset. Subsequently, it was trained using the YOLOv8 and YOLOv5 models, with YOLOv5 achieving a satisfactory accuracy of 84%. The second model was trained on the COCO dataset using YOLOv5, yielding an impressive accuracy of 94%. By improving object detection capabilities through advanced technology, this research seeks to empower individuals with visual impairments, enhancing their mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.

조선 조립블록 운영관리에 관한 사례연구 (A Case Study on Assembly Block Operations Management at Shipyard)

  • How to efficiently manage assembly blocks at shipyard has been a hot management issue in the shipbuilding Industry, because it has significantly influenced on the productivity of shipbuilding process. This paper introduces the real practice of assembly block operations management in Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the Ship Assembly Block Operations Optimization (SABOO) project that h3s been launched in HHI as an academy-and-industry collaborative project, aimed to diagnose problems, propose possible solutions, and develop a prototype system in order to search ways of improving the assembly block operations management. Through the field interviews, observations, and benchmarking studies, the SABOO project diagnosed the most rudimental and urgent problem and proposed possible solutions. In addition, the SABOO project developed the prototype system that embodied the visual function of monitoring the shipyard on a real-time and the Interactive block assignment function that utilized the assembly block assignment algorithm developed by the project. As a whole, the SABOO project tested the possibility and gained an insight in extending the functions of block transportation/stockyard management system.

A New Three-dimensional Integrated Multi-index Method for CBIR System

  • This paper proposes a new image retrieval method called the 3D integrated multi-index to fuse SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) visual words with other features at the indexing level. The advantage of the 3D integrated multi-index is that it can produce finer subdivisions in the search space. Compared with the inverted indices of medium-sized codebook, the proposed method increases time slightly in preprocessing and querying. Particularly, the SIFT, contour and colour features are fused into the integrated multi-index, and the joint cooperation of complementary features significantly reduces the impact of false positive matches, so that effective image retrieval can be achieved. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets show that the 3D integrated multi-index significantly improves the retrieval accuracy. While compared with other methods, it requires an acceptable memory usage and query time. Importantly, we show that the 3D integrated multi-index is well complementary to many prior techniques, which make our method compared favorably with the state-of-the-arts.

공간사용자의 본능적 시선탐색활동에 나타난 주사경로 알고리즘 특성 (The feature of scanning path algorithm shown at natural visual search activities of space user)

  • 본 연구는 지하철 로비공간을 대상으로 한 주시실험을 통해 공간정보의 본능적 시선탐색과정에서 나타나는 주시특성에 나타난 주사경로 알고리즘을 분석하였다. 주시기간 구간별 분석에서 주시시간이 오래 경과할수록 주사유형 횟수가 증가하고 있었는데, 오래 주시할수록 주시단절이 많이 일어난 것으로 해석이 가능하며, 주시에 따른 피로나 활발한 탐색이 자연스러운 공간탐색과정에서 일어나는 과정에서 화상범위를 벗어나는 경우가 많았던 것으로 보인다. 또한 시간구간의 변화에 따른 주사유형의 변화를 추세선으로 살펴본 결과, "집중"은 시간구간의 증가와 함께 가파른 증가, "대각 수직"은 완만한 증가를 보이는 반면, "순환 혼합 수평"은 감소 경향을 보이고 있다. 공간을 주시한 피험자의 주시데이터에는 다양한 시각정보가 포함되어 있는데, "주의집중"에 나타난 주사유형을 분석한 결과, 이상과 같은 의미 있는 결론을 도출할 수 있었다. 이러한 주사유형의 증감특성은 시간의 경과에 따른 주사경향을 파악함에 있어 기초자료가 될 수 있다.

인포그래픽 관점을 이용한 과학 잡지 분석 (An Analysis of Science Magazine in the View of Infographic)

  • 본 연구는 과학적 사실, 현상, 첨단 과학 소식, 과학적 이슈 등을 독자들에게 알기 쉽게 제공하기 위한 표현수단으로 인포그래픽을 활용하고 있는 과학동아를 대상으로 인포그래픽의 시계열적 특성을 분석하여 과학 교육에 인포그래픽의 활용 가능성을 짐작하는데 그 목적이 있다. 과학동아의 인포그래픽을 분석하기 위해 스토리텔링 유형, 시지각 특성, 프레임워크의 수준을 차원으로 하는 3차원 구성틀을 개발하였다. 이 구성틀에 의해 분석한 결과 과학동아는 1986년부터 2014년까지 이미지를 강조한 과학 기사를 발행하였으며 특히 2008년 이후부터는 인포그래픽이 포함된 기사가 유의미하게 증가하는 것으로 나타나 2008년을 인포그래픽 특성 변화의 중요 기준이 되는 $T_c$(Critical time Point)로 설정하였다. 2008년 이후의 과학 기사의 인포그래픽은 위치, 시간, 수치, 관계, 기능, 과정 기반형의 6가지 스토리텔링 유형이 2008년 이전 보다 다양하게 분포하였고, 게슈탈트 시지각 이론의 시지각 특성(근접성, 유사성, 연속성, 폐쇄성)도 2008년 이후에 더욱 많이 적용한 것을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 프레임워크의 수준은 위치, 시간, 수치, 과정 기반 인포그래픽은 전체 범위 수준이 주를 이루며 시간의 흐름에 변화가 없는 반면, 기능과 관계 기반 인포그래픽에서는 프레임워크의 수준이 2008년을 기준으로 변화가 나타났다. 인포그래픽 관점에서 과학동아를 분석한 결과를 통해 인포그래픽의 특성이 어떻게 변화되어 왔는지 분석하여 과학교육에서 인포그래픽을 적용할 때 기초적인 기준을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

모바일 시각 검색 시스템의 성능 향상을 위하여 개선된 Speeded Up Robust Features(SURF) 알고리듬 (Modified Speeded Up Robust Features(SURF) for Performance Enhancement of Mobile Visual Search System)

  • 본 논문에서는 지역 특징 추출 방법 중 하나인 SURF를 개선시켜 모바일 환경에 적합한 특징 추출 및 정합 방법에 대하여 기술한다. 모바일 환경에서 최적의 성능을 내기 위해 크게 세 가지 방법을 제안한다. 첫 번째는 SURF 기술자의 차원을 축소시키는 방법이다. 기존의 64차원과 여러 차원의 기술자들의 성능을 비교 분석한다. 두 번째로 고속 헤시안 검출기에서 헤시안 행렬의 대각합을 통해 계산되는 라플라시안 부호를 사용하여 정합 성능을 높인다. 즉, 부호가 같으면 같은 특성의 특징점으로 여겨 정합하고 그렇지 않으면 정합하지 않는다. 세 번째는 특징점간의 거리 측정 시 사용하는 거리 비율을 실험하고, 실험을 통해 얻어진 거리 비율을 사용하여 정합의 성능을 높였다. 마지막으로, 기존의 시스템과 제안한 시스템의 성능을 비교하여 제안한 시스템의 성능 향상을 검증하고, 제안한 시스템이 비교적 정합률의 성능 저하 없이 응답속도를 크게 개선함을 보였다.

시선추적을 이용한 선택적 시각탐색에 대한 기초적 연구 - 백화점매장 공간 이미지를 중심으로 - (Basic Study on Selective Visual Search by Eyetracking - Image arond the Department Store Space -)

  • Gaze induction characteristics in space vary depending on characteristics of spatial components and display. This study analyzed dominant eye-fixation characteristics of three zones of department store space. Eye-fixation characteristics depending on spatial components and positional relationship can be defined as follows. First, [**.jpg] was used as an extension in the process of storing the image photographed during image data processing for analysis in pixels and due to compressed storage of image data, the image produced with a clear boundary was stored in neutral colors. To remove this problem, the image used in operation was re-processed in black and white and stored in the [**.bmp] format with large capability, at the same time. As the result, the effort caused by unnecessary colors in the program operation process was corrected. Second, the gaze ratio to space area can be indicated as a strength of each gaze zone and when analyzing the gaze strength of the three zones, the left store was a zone with a "little strong" gaze strength of "102.8", the middle space was a zone with an "extremely weak" gaze strength of "89.6" and the right store was a zone with an "extremely strong" gaze strength of "117.2". Third, the IV section had a strong strength of gaze on the middle space and the right store and the V section showed a markedly strong strength of gaze on the left and right stores. This tendency was the same as the VI section with the strongest gaze strength and the right store had a little strong gaze strength than the left store.
