  • This paper deals with inspect algorithm using visual system. One of the major problems that arise during polymer production is the estimation of the noise of the product(bad pallets). An erroneous output can cause a lot of losses (production and financial losses). Therefore new methods for real-time inspection of the noise are demanded. For this reason, we have presented a development of vision system algorithm for the defect inspection of PE pallets.   • Industrially, die-casting products are formed through casting, and so the methods to inspect the defects inside them are very restrictive. External inspection methods including visual inspection, sampling judgment, etc. enables researchers to inspect possible external defects, but x-ray inspection equipment has been generally used to inspect internal ones. Recently, they have been also applying three-dimensional internal inspections using CT equipment. However, they have their own limitations in applying to the use of industrial inspection due to limited detection size and long calculation time. To overcome the above problems, this paper has suggested a method to inspect internal defects by comparing the CAD data of the product to be inspected with the 3D data of the CT image. In this paper, we proposed a method for fast and accurate inspection in three dimensions by applying x-ray inspection to find internal defects in industrial parts such as aluminum die casting products. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, a series of experiments have been carried out.

  • An underwater robotic system has been developed and applied to visual inspection of reactor vessel internals. The Korea Electric Power Robot for Visual Test (KeproVt) consists of an underwater robot, a vision processor-based measuring unit, a master control station and a servo control station. The robot guided by the control station with the measuring unit can be controlled to have any motion at any position in the reactor vessel with $\pm$1 cm positioning and $\pm$2 degrees heading accuracies with enough precision to inspect reactor internals. A simple and fast installation process is emphasized in the developed system. The developed robotic system was successfully deployed at the Younggwang Nuclear Unit 1 for the visual inspection of reactor internals.

  • During the period of retubing work for the licensing renewal, the fuel channels, calandria tubes and feeders of CANDU Reactors will be replaced, and calandria visual examination will be performed. This period is a unique opportunity to inspect the inside of the calandria. The visual inspection for the calandria vessel and its internals of Wolsong NPP is scheduled for confirming the calandria integrity. The first visual inspection for the calandria is planned in Pt. Lepreau led by AECL. The visual inspection for Wolsong NPP, led by NETEC(Nuclear Engineering & Technology Institute) of KHNP, will employ 3D laser scanner and 3D CAD Mock-up for the first time in the world, in addition to a conventional video camera. The inspection system is composed of a robot with the 3D laser scanner, a video camera and a hardness meter.

  • The more integrated and smaller SMD are needed, new solder joints packaging technologies are developed in these days such as BGA(Ball Grid Array), Flip Chip, J-lead etc. But, it's unable to inspect solder joints in those devices by visual inspection methods, because they are hided by it's packages. To inspect those new SMD packages, an X-ray system for acquiring a cross-sectional image of a arbitrary plane is necessary. In this paper, an analysis for designing X-ray cross sectional imaging system is presented including the way for correcting the distortion of image intensifier. And we show computer simulation of that system with a simple PCB model to show it's usefulness in applying PCB solder joint inspection.

  • A tape feeder of a SMD(Surface Mount Device) mounter is a device that sequentially feeds electronic components on a tape reel to the pick-up system of the mounter. As components are getting much smaller, feeding accuracy of a feeder becomes one of the most important factors for successful component pick-up. Therefore, it is critical to keep the feeding accuracy to a specified level in the assembly and production of tape feeders. This paper describes a tape feeder inspection system that was developed to automatically measure and to inspect feeding accuracy using machine vision. It consists of a feeder base, an image acquisition system, and a personal computer. The image acquisition system is composed of CCD cameras with lens, LED illumination systems, and a frame grabber inside the PC. This system loads up to six feeders at a time and inspects them automatically and sequentially. The inspection software was implemented using Visual C++ on Windows with easily usable GUI. Using this system, we can automatically measure and inspect the quality of ail feeders in production process by analyzing the measurement results statistically.

  • A PDP(Plasma Display Panel) Frame is critical part of PDP and also produces couple hundred thousand every month. In the process of mass production, product inspection is very important process. Also to increase the reliance, inspection each part and every final product is asked quite often. Purpose of this paper is to use computer vision system to inspect the PDP parts which is Automated visual process inspection. This paper contains the system design for inspecting defects of hole, tab, stud, rivet of PDP Frame. The system also can inspect various kinds of PDP frames. Quick and accurate 100% inspection of all shapes can improve the manufacturing productivity. Inspection results can be stored in a database and analyzed to find the cause of defects. After applying the system to the industry, the result shows the possibility of fast and accuracy of the inspection.

  • The control rod drive mechanisms in a reactor head are arranged too narrow for a human worker to approach. Moreover, the working environment is in high radiation area. In order to inspect defections in the surfaces of the reactor head and welding parts, a visual inspection device that can approach such a narrow and high radiation area is required. This paper introduces a tele-operated mobile robot for visual inspection of a reactor head, which has pan/tilt camera, fixed rear camera, ultrasonic collision detection system, and so on. Moreover, the host controller and digital video logging system are developed and integrated control software is also developed. The robot is operated by a wireless control, which gives flexibility for the inspection.

  • During the period of reinforcement work for the licensing renewal of CANDU NPP, the fuel channels, Calandria tubes and feeders of CANDU Reactor are replaced. The remote visual inspection of Calandria internal is also performed during the period of reinforcement work. This period is a unique opportunity to inspect the inside of the Calandria. The visual inspection for the Calandria vessel and its internals of Wolsong NPP Unit 1 was performed by Nuclear Engineering & Technology Institute(NETEC) of KHNP. To perform this inspection, NETEC developed equipment applied new technology such as the synchronization of 3D CAD, automatic alignment and control system. The inspection confirmed that the Calandria integrity of Wolsong NPP Unit 1 is perfect.

  • The aim of this thesis is to develop a SMT-components placement inspection system equipped with a visual sensor. The visual sensor, which consists of a camera and 2-layer LED illuminator, developed to inspect the component placement state such as missing, shift, flipping, polarity and tomb-stone. on PCB in the reflow-process. In practical applications, however, it is too hard to classify component from images mixed pad on PCB, cream solder paste and component. To overcome the problem, this thesis proposes the 2-layer illumination method and the heuristic image processing algorithms according to inspection type. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a series of experiments on the inspection were conducted. The results show that the proposed method is robust to visual noise and variations in component conditions.
