  • The cemented sand and gravel (CSG) method is a construction technique that adds cement and water to rock-like materials, such as rivered gravel or excavation muck which that can be obtained easily at areas adjacent to dam sites. This study was performed to evaluate the planting properties of herbaceous plant and cool-season grass in CSG blocks that were manufactured by using CSG materials to develop environmentally friendly CSG method. The two types of CSG-0 without cement and CSG-100 with $100\;kg/m^3$ of cement were designed to evaluate compaction, unconfined compressive strength and growth of plants with cement content by using modified E compaction. To analyze growth properties of plants, germination ratio, visual cover, plant height and root length were measured in 4 weeks and 8 weeks after sowing. As the results, the germination regardless kinds of plants started within 5~7days and the germination ratio were in the range of 50~60 %. The visual cover of kinds of plants by visual rating system were in the range of 7~8 and the visual cover of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass was higher than that of lespedeza cuneata. The plant height and root length for tall fescue and perennial ryegrass in 8 weeks after sowing were in the range of 22~26 cm, 12~15 cm and 4~6 cm, 3~5 cm, respectively.

  • Container-based virtualization reduces performance overhead compared with other virtualization technologies and guarantees an isolation of each virtual execution environment. So, it is being studied to block access to host resources or container resources for sandboxing in restricted system resource like embedded devices. However, because security threats which are caused by security vulnerabilities of the host OS or the security issues of the host environment exist, the needs of the technology to prevent an illegal accesses and unauthorized behaviors by malware has to be increased. In this paper, we define additional access permissions to access a virtual execution environment newly and control them in kernel space to protect attacks from illegal access and unauthorized behaviors by malware and suggest the Container Access Control to control them. Also, we suggest a way to block a loading of unauthenticated kernel driver to disable the Container Access Control running in host OS by malware. We implement and verify proposed technologies on Linux Kernel.

  • There exists a transform trellis code that is optimal for stationary Gaussian sources and the squared-error distortion measure at all rates. In this paper, we train an asymptotically optimal version of such a code to obtain one which is matched better to the statistics of real world data. The training algorithm uses the M-algorithm to search the trellis codebook and the LBG-algorithm to update the trellis codebook. To adapt the codebook for the varying input data. we use two gain-adaptive methods. The gain-adaptive scheme 1, which normalizes input block data by its gain factor, is applied to images at rate 0.5 bits/pixel. When each block is encoded at the same rate, the nonstationarity among the block variances leads to a variation in the resulting distortion from one block to another. To alleviate the non-uniformity among the encoded image, we design four clusters from the block power, in which each cluster has its own trellis codebook and different rates. The rate of each cluster is assigned through requiring a constant distortion per-letter. This gain-adaptive scheme 2 produces good visual and measurable quality at low rates.

  • Background: Various truncal block techniques with ultrasonography (USG) are becoming widespread to reduce postoperative pain and opioid requirements in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). The primary aim of our study was to determine whether the USG-guided serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) is as effective as the thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) in VATS. Our secondary aim was to evaluate patient and surgeon satisfaction, block application time, first analgesic time, and length of hospital stay. Methods: Patients in Group SAPB received 0.4 mL/kg bupivacaine with a USG-guided SAPB, and patients in Group TPVB received 0.4 mL/kg bupivacaine with a USG-guided TPVB. We recorded the pain scores, the timing of the first analgesic requirement, the amount of tramadol consumption, and postoperative complications for 24 hours. We also recorded the block application time and length of hospital stay. Results: A total of 62 patients, with 31 in each group (Group SAPB and Group TPVB) completed the study. Between the two groups, there were no significant differences in rest and dynamic pain visual analog scale scores at 0, 1, 6, 12, and 24 hours after surgery. The total consumption of tramadol was significantly lower in the TPVB group (P = 0.026). The block application time was significantly shorter in Group SAPB (P < 0.001). Conclusions: An SAPB that is applied safely and rapidly as a part of multimodal analgesia in patients who undergo VATS is not inferior to the TPVB and can be an alternative to it.

  • After various video coding standards such as H.263, MPEG-4, and H.264 have been introduced, there has bun strong need to support the multiple standards with limited resources efficiently. In terms of deblocking Inter which plays an important role in improving visual quality, K264 deblocking filter implementation has different aspects as compared with traditional $8\times8$ block-based post-filter implementation. Analyzing the differences, this paper proposes a H.264 deblocking filter implementation method that supports $8\times8$ block-based post-filtering for the traditional video coding systems. In the proposed implementation method the block boundaries to he filtered are adaptively chosen for $8\times8$ and $4\times4$ block boundary filtering. Since the filtered result is selectively used for motion compensation or not, both loop-filtering and post-filtering can be achieved. A quantization parameter conversion unit that converts H.263 quantization parameters to H.264 quantization parameters is utilized by examining the $8\times8$ block boundary errors based on human visual system. Since the original nature of the H.264 deblocking filter is well expanded to the $8\times8$ block-based post-filter with minor modifications, the proposed implementation method is suitable to implement the deblocking function of the multiple video standards such as H.263, MPEG-4, and K264, efficiently.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive BTC algorithm using the characteristics of the error signals. The BTC algorithm has a avantage that it is low computational complexity, but a disadvantage that it produces the ragged edges in the reconstructed images for th esloping regions beause of coding the input with 2-level signals. Firstly, proposed methods classify the input into low, medium, and high activity blocks based on the variance of th einput. Using 1-level quantizer for low activity block, 2-level for medium, and 4-level for high, it is adaptive methods that reduce bit rates and the inherent quantization noises in the 2-level quantizer. Also, in case of processing high activity block, we propose a new quantization level allocation algorithm using the characteristics of the error signals between the original signals and the reconstructed signals used by 2-level quantizer, in oder that reduce bit rates superior to the conventional 4-level quantizer. Especially, considering the characteristics of input block, we reduce the bit rates without incurrng the visual noises.

  • A three dimensional finite element generation code has been developed attaching simple blocks. Block can be either a quadrature or a cube depending on the dimension of a subject considered. Finite element serendipity basis functions are employed to map elements between the computational domain and the physical domain. Elements can be generated with wser defined progressive ratio for each block. For blocks to be connected properly, a block should have a consistent numbering scheme for vertices, side nodes, edges and surfaces. In addition the edge information such as the number of elements and the progressive ratio for each direction should also be checked for interfaces to have unique node numbers. Having done so, user can add blocks with little worry about the orientation of blocks, Since the present the present code has been written by a Visual Basic language, it can be developed easily for a user interactive manner under a Windows environment.

  • This paper presents an improved XOR-based Data Hiding Scheme (XDHS) to hide a halftone image in more than two halftone stego images. The hamming weight and hamming distance is a very important parameter affecting the quality of a halftone image. For this reason, we proposed a method that involves minimizing the hamming weights and hamming distances between the stego image and cover image in $2{\times}2$-pixel grids. Moreover, our XDHS adopts a block-wise operation to improve the quality of a halftone image and stego images. Furthermore, our scheme improves security by using a block-wise operation with A-patterns and B-patterns. Our XDHS method achieves a high quality with good security compared to the prior arts. An experiment verified the superiority of our XDHS compared with previous methods.
