As korean women despised to transform their appearance into totally different shape, and they regarded to enhance a inherent beauty ideal beauty, korean traditional make-up culture was natural. But in modern society, make-up has been developing as one of the beauty industry and it means make-up involves more meanings than primitive period and needs to study its multi-dimensional connotation to understand in the culture. The purposes of this study were to find out what was represented in make-up ad and how it has been changed. The data of this study were collected from make-up advertisement printed in 'Hyang Jang' which is a periodical of amole pacific cosmetic industry from 1972-2001, and qualitatively analysed. As a results of content analysis were: The characteristics of non-verbal expression in make-up advertisements were different by the time. Generally person-appeal advertisements were more than product-appeal advertisements. And in the 1970s and early 1980s, person-appeal advertisements were appeal to the lifestyle, but after that person itself was appealed. And also after early 1980s, image-appeal advertisements were increased.

Printing advertisement is aggregate of commercial information communication text consisted of image sign and language sign. This means that verbal tabor through visual stimulation and character is mixed and passes information through picture. Typography is process that visualize verbal appeal in printing advertisement. Therefore study about typography is very important for a visual expression element in printing advertisement. Typography expression of Korean printing advertisement accomplished fast qualitative growth after 2000 flowing the 1990s. This study makes that typography expression propensity of Korean printing advertisement after 2000 of changed of expression structure, changed of expression rule, changed of expression method etc. Accordingly, extracted each three analysis bases. And this study presented expansive direction of typography expression of printing advertising in case studies.

The purpose of study is to examine the effects of family support on the life satisfaction of elderly with disabilities and provide a ground necessary to improve it. Research was conducted on 167 elderly with hearing, visual and physical disabilities aged over 60 who were living in Seoul and Pusan. Telephone survey, sign language and interview, in accordance with types of disability, were adopted to collect data effectively. That is telephone survey was used for elderly with visual impairment whereas face-to-face interview for physical impairment and sign language for hearing impairment by volunteers. Collected data were analyzed, using hierarchical regression analysis. This study utilized two different models, direct effect model and buffering effect of social support in order to examine the effects of familial support on the life satisfaction of elderly with disabilities. Research findings suggest that the level of life satisfaction appeared to be low in general among elderly with disabilities and emotional family support exerted a positive effect on life satisfaction. In addition, it is empirically supported that emotional family support buffered the negative effect of economic limitations on life satisfaction. In other words, the effects of economic limitations as stress factor decreased with the increase in the frequency of emotional support, however, the level of life satisfaction decreased at a mercy of the stress factor of economic limitations with the decrease in the frequency of emotional support. Finally, this paper attempted to provide some alternatives to effectively improve life satisfaction among elderly with disabilities based on empirical findings.

Previous research has explored early expression of fire signs before the burning of insulation. To achieve this, typically, automatic inspections are used to detect gas emitted from odor capsules at electrical connection points; additionally, early fire signs can be expressed using visual inspection of changes in the appearance of temperature caps. However, early detection of electrical fire is often difficult because only specific inspections, which are not complex, are performed. Therefore, in this paper, we present complex inspection techniques, such as visual inspection, odor inspection, and automatic inspection, and propose a showing material of fire signs that can solve conventional problems. In addition, this study examines the conditions under which the candidate material for the showing material is designed, the composition of the candidate material selected based on the designed conditions, the manufacturing means used to produce the showing material considering the temperature for early expression of fire signs, and the performance of the produced showing material. Furthermore, we analyze various effects that can occur through the proposed display material.

In the paper, we propose enhanced feature extraction and matching methods for a mobile environment based on modified SURF. We propose three methods to reduce the computational complexity in a mobile environment. The first is to reduce the dimensions of the SURF descriptor. We compare the performance of existing 64-dimensional SURF with several other dimensional SURFs. The second is to improve the performance using the sign of the trace of the Hessian matrix. In other words, feature points are considered as matched if they have the same sign for the trace of the Hessian matrix, otherwise considered not matched. The last one is to find the best distance-ratio which is used to determine the matching points. We find the best distance-ratio through experiments, and it gives the relatively high accuracy. Finally, existing system which is based on normal SURF method is compared with our proposed system which is based on these three proposed methods. We present that our proposed system shows reduced response time while preserving reasonably good matching accuracy.

Typography is the combination of language of formative art. It is indeed the core means of human communication through understanding of language and formative values. Studies began on introduction of various techniques to overcome the phenomenon of the 'reaction of language', which appears as an impediment in delivery and sharing of information as the most fundamental roles. Successively, mobile printing types more readable and effective in delivering of meanings have been developed, thus widely distributed for general use. However, although such printing types might be easily used in image and digital media, such as in computer monitors, screens and mobile phone LCDs, etc., it is in fact difficult to use these printing types in printed surfaces, the traditional medium of information delivery, or in sign systems frequently encountered in our surrounding environment. As a solution for this, it is intended to create an effect of communication closer to dynamic typography expression by approaching visual message delivery system from the essence and substance of the color application, which corresponds to the visual spatial expression effect, the core element of expression in dynamic typography to possess significantly more powerful effect in terms of both message delivery capacity and readability than the conventional means of static typography.

In this study and design, I explore the visual communication design process related to wayfinding in Wonkwang University Hospital in Iksan City. The purpose for designing an integrated is to graphically communicate the complex information. I have designed a graphic information system combining graphic elements such as typography, color, image and text layout, and graphic image to present interpretive and communicative processes. As a result of designing, the wayfinding is s term used to describe the program of applying environmental graphics and or architectural sign systems. In other words, wayfinding is the art of helping people find their way by utilizing visual communications such as signs, directories, landmarks, edges, paths and so on. Wayfinding can also be explained as the ability to know where one is in space and how to find one's way through space. Wayfinding design then becomes a systematic arrangement of the variables that allows patients and visitors to successfully find their desired destinations, especially in a hospital.

Substitution of graphic representation for extensive lists of numerical statistical data is highly desirable by both editors and readers of medical journals, faced with an exploding abundance of contemporary medical literature. A novel graphic tool. the 'double-ring diagram', is described herein which permits visual representation of information regarding certain statistical variables used to describe the performance of a test or physical sign in the diagnosis of a disease. The diagram is relatively easy to construct on the basis of a number of primary data such as the prevalence and the true positive, true negative. false positive and false negative test results. These values are reflected in the diagram along with the values of other statistical variables derived from them. such as the sensitivity. specificity, predictive values for positive and negative test result. and accuracy. This diagram may be useful in visualizing a test's performance and facilitating visual comparison of performance of two or more tests.

Visual messages are fundamental elements for performing communication and indicate the signs which are delivered from the communicator to the communicatee via channels, Generally, we can classify visual messages into two groups; linguistic factors which are rational and deliver abstract concepts and unlinguistic factors which are mental and can be expressed concretely. Especially, web site with receivers' low attention and concentration need images which can attract their attention to visual messages. That is, web site is a medium which allows us to feel visual and emotional experiences. We can call it a standard of sign systems which are consisted of various styles of digital texts. The main purpose of this study lies in that we'll analyze how homepage introductory page as one of the forms of digital text conduces a meaning action to the receivers and that we'll apprehend the structures of images and different types of signs via a semiotic approach and analyze the underlying meaning of the messages. In order to survey the structures of images we'll look into the attitude toward perceiving messages by using semantic differential method which has been developed mostly by Osgood and analyze the visual images by adopting sign types of Fuss. As the signification is created by combining signs, it is significant that we'll analyze the meaning of sings between the transmitters and receivers from the semiotic viewpoint and study the signification systems.

This study was carried out to find the general representation methods of wall with respaect to the Korean treaditional atmosphere based on case studies, 16 case studies were classified into two categores : traditional walls and designed walls expressing the treaditional atmosphere. And the representation methods of walls were viewed by two sides : the type of message and the role of sign. The results were summarized as follows ; ■ To reproduce the traditional walls is possible, in this case the role of sign is icon. ■ To reproduce or represint the visual element of the traditional walls will be also possible, in this case the role of sign is index. It is recommended to use 3 types of message in representing methods of walls expressing the Korean traditional atmosphere. ■ Shape ; Approach to shape is more effective than maerial or figure. It is possible to represent the shape element of the traditional walls. Specially, it will be effective to utilize the capital of traitional walls as shape element. ■ Material ; Conventional materials with less artificial processing used at traditional walls will be better suited. ■ Figure ; To utilize the traditional figures is possible. Specially, it will be effective to utilize the traditional figures as design approach with respaect to the sense of place. Futher research is required to find out the relationship between the meaning and the design mechanics.
