  • This study explores the effective visual resources in the “regularity in chemical reactions” unit of ninth grade science textbooks (2009 revised version). The frequency and role of visual resources were initially examined, and the students’ perceptions of visual resources were investigated. The results of the analysis represented the learning material presentation (68%), motivational categories (14%), guide to inquiry procedures (9%), and inquiry results and summaries (8%). According to the investigation of the students’ perceptions of visual resources, the most effective visual resource for motivation is a photograph depicting physical and chemical changes, such as in bread baking and the most effective for learning material presentations in mass conservation, definite proportion, and stoichiometric concept units were a cartoon, graph, and formula representing stoichiometric phenomena, respectively. The most effective resource for guide to inquiry (experimental) procedures were photographs of both instruments and sequential experiment processes; and in the inquiry results and summary category, incomplete tables and graphs for students to work on themselves. The aims of this research are to increase the usefulness of visual resources in the teaching-learning activity and provide informative supplements for the development and improvement of visual resources, according to the students’ perceptions.

  • Statement of problem: Shade selection has traditionally been accomplished by visual examination, which is particularly relevant to the shade selection of anterior teeth, but the subjective nature of visual analysis can lead to errors in shade matching. Recently shade selection systems have been developed to provide a more objective and scientific approach to understanding and clarifying shade selection. Purpose : The purpose of this study was analysis of various shade analyzing equipment with the goal of providing a more objective shade selection. Materials and method: Visual shade matching system selection(Vita Lumin Vacuum shade guide, Vitapan 3D Master shade guide) and mechanical shade matching method($ShadeEye^{(R)}$-EX Chroma Meter, $Shadescan^{TM}$ System) used for this study. The shade guide tap specimens for 10 extracted maxillary anterior teeth were produced by selecting shades using each shade matching system. The accuracy of the selection of shades for the teeth and fabricated specimens were evaluated by analyzing the calculated shade difference(${\Delta}E^*$), using a spectrophotometer and calculating the output of value $L^*,\;a^*,\;b^*$. Results and conclusion: The results show that the average ${\{Delta}E^*$ value (difference of shade) of the shade tap specimens to the actual specimen decreased in the following order: Vita Lumin Vacuum Shade Guide(VL), $ShadeEye^{(R)}$-EX Chroma Meter(SE) Vitapan 3D Master Shade guide(V3), and $Shadescan^{TM}$ System(55) : and that there are significant statistical differences between the VL and SS (p<0.05). In the analysis of the ${\Delta}E^*$ (difference of shade) value,40% of the VL group was found to be less than 3.3 (limit value of shade tap specimens clinically acceptable), 60% in the V3 group, 50% in the SE group, and 80% in the SS group.

  • It is very important to research drivers' visual behavior. Angle of vision is very important and accounts for more than 90% as the source of driving information. In curve sections, drivers can know the front circumstances and drive more safely and comfortably through facilities guiding their eye movements. Therefore, the standards of installation and effectiveness of these facilities to guide drivers' gaze need to be reconsidered considering characteristics of drivers' eyes The national road no. 34 (Jincheon IC, Buckamri-Yiriangmun section), which is a high-accident-frequency location, is chosen for experimental place. The aim of this study is to understand the process of drivers' visual movement which is drivers' visual behavior and to check the facilities to guide their eyes. Another goal of this study is to improve facilities to guide drivers' eyes on a result basis of considering drivers' visual behavior especially for traffic safety in a high-accident-frequency curve sections.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to predict human visual target search using ACT-R cognitive architecture in real scene images. Background: Human uses both the method of bottom-up and top-down process at the same time using characteristics of image itself and knowledge about images. Modeling of human visual search also needs to include both processes. Method: In this study, visual target object search performance in real scene images was analyzed comparing experimental data and result of ACT-R model. 10 students participated in this experiment and the model was simulated ten times. This experiment was conducted in two conditions, indoor images and outdoor images. The ACT-R model considering the first saccade region through calculating the saliency map and spatial layout was established. Proposed model in this study used the guide of visual search and adopted visual search strategies according to the guide. Results: In the analysis results, no significant difference on performance time between model prediction and empirical data was found. Conclusion: The proposed ACT-R model is able to predict the human visual search process in real scene images using salience map and spatial layout. Application: This study is useful in conducting model-based evaluation in visual search, particularly in real images. Also, this study is able to adopt in diverse image processing program such as helper of the visually impaired.

  • The ability of a dentist to select and communicate an acceptable shade match to a dental laboratory may be the most important factor in esthetic restorative dentistry. However, shade matching is a very complex situation. In this study, an attempt was made to compare and evaluate the conventional visual assessment and colorimetric analysis in clinical shade matching. 20 patients were selected and their maxillary central incisors shade were measured by Vita classic shade guide, using $Shadepilot^{TM}$ and ShadeEye $NCC^{(R)}$. The results indicate that there is much variation in the shade selection by visual and instrumental methods.
