Information gathered through experience transforms into knowledge and such knowledge becomes a foundation for intuitive decisions. Based on such background, the following study investigates intuitive decision making on basic elements needed for design concepts and visual conceptualizations. The study consist two phases. first, 12 structural elements of a digital camera and relation between each elements were arranged intuitively on a board. Next, sketches were generated with relationship of structural elements in mind. As a result of the study, concept with intuitive decisions effect structural thinking, various developments, specific operation methods , and sketch expressions. However, study also revealed that the freedom of human emotions don't accord with the qualification map.

Drug-induced Parkinsonism is the most frequently observed type among the cases of secondary Parkinsonism. Besides typical parkinsonian symptoms, such as tremor, rigidity and bradykinesia, drug-induced Parkinsonism manifests with additional simultaneous symptoms like orobuccolingual dyskinesia, mixed type of tremor (resting, action), and symmetry of expressions. We present a case of drug-induced Parkinsonism, affected by taking the antiulcer drug cimetidine. Jodeung-san extract (Choto-san, Tsumura Co. 10) was administered for 7 days and acupuncture (electronic, auricular, pharmacopuncture) was conducted 3 times. The clinical outcomes were then evaluated through the patient's global impression of change, visual analogue scale, and Hoehn and Yahr stage. After the treatment, the clinical features, such as tremor and orobuccolingual dyskinesia, disappeared. The combination of Jodeung-san and electro-acupuncture at GB34 could therefore be a remedy for the patients with drug-induced Parkinsonism.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the classification and meaning of symbols, of the clothes of the college students by sex-roll theory and identity theory. The clothes analyzed in this study were collected by photographs which were taken in the campus (240 out of 1,000 pictures) of the several colleges and universities in Seoul form fall in 1993 to summer in 1994. The results were as follow : 1. Analysis as a symbol of sexuality. The phenomenon of the visual inconsistency and consistency of sexual image in dress were showed simultaneously. The clothes of male students were generally becoming feminine style in materials and colors of clothes. These suggested that sex-roll theory be applied to their clothes. 2. Analysis as symbols of identification or individuality. The identification of shoes, bags, accessories, and hair styles were prominent than that of clothes. When it was analyzed as a symbol of individuality, the college students seemed to act as fashion leaders, who accepted new fashions and tried them on first. These suggested that Erikson′s theory on identity be applied to their clothes. 3. Analysis as a symbol of emblem. The dissimilarities of between the college students and other groups in the same generation were bright and casual attire with files, books, and sack. 4. Analysis as a symbol of campus ceremony. The clothes of college students on campus ceremonies were more causal and flexible than those of other groups in the same generation. It was known that the symbols showed above were reflected on their clothes as "one′s expressions" which are sex-roll, identity, and characteristics of college students.

As the superiority of Hangeul becomes known globally, design products utilizing a Hangeul motif are gaining attention in international markets. Accordingly, the interest in Hangeul typography is also increasing. Visual and formative designers are actively developing typographies, as typographies have limitless development potential as a type of formative expression for communication. Accordingly, this study will encompass the spirit, value and beauty of Hangeul in fashion design. The purpose of study is to demonstrate how to express the greatest amount of the beauty of the Korean language for the general public and how to utilize such expressions in various areas. The detailed content of this study is as following. First, the functionality and expression characteristics of typography will be understood by exploring the concept of typography and reviewing the design cases utilizing typography. Second, cases that utilized Hangeul typography will be reviewed and their types and issues will be identified. Third, the design direction will be set based on above exploration. Finally, four design works utilizing Hangeul typography will be suggested as the study result. Accordingly, this study applied Hangeul typography on the shirt design and attempted to contribute to the practical use of Hangeul in everyday living through design products.

When people are asked to described certain textiles, they frequently refer to the expressions of its properties such as attractiveness, uniqueness, shininess, robustness, comfortability, and so on. It shows how senses play important role in it. Human employs their senses when interacting with textiles, most notably visual and tactile/ haptic to absorb its expressive properties. Yet, our sensorial experiences may amplify when interacting with those of traditional textiles, such as batik, as we can entice sensations when seeing its motifs and patterns, smelling its materials, and touching its surfaces. The multi-sensorial importance of seeing, smelling, and touching in the interaction with and experience of textiles suggests that one should address senses in a systematic way when evaluating users' perception on traditional textiles. To address this issue, the paper proposes the incorporation of Kansei Engineering (KE) approach for identifying multi-sensorial experiences on the expressive properties of traditional textiles, using batik as a case of study. KE approach address person's psychological understanding when observing things in order to analyze and study the inherent relationship between person's perceptual knowledge and objects evaluated. This paper outlines the use of KE approach in correlating sensorial perceptions when experience with traditional textiles and ultimately expose users' preferences toward them. Background of KE approach on textiles will be explored and its application for the multi-sensorial investigation of traditional textiles will be discussed.

In this paper, we deal with the teaching of algebra based on patterns and generalization. The past algebra curriculum starts with letters(variables), algebraic expressions, and equations, but these formal approaching method has many difficulties in the school algebra. Therefore we insist the new algebraic approaches should be needed. In order to develop these instructions, we firstly investigate the relationship of patterns and algebra, the relationship of generalization and algebra, the steps of generalization from patterns and levels of difficulties. Next we look into the algebra instructions based arithmetic patterns, visual patterns and functional situations. We expect that these approaches help students learn algebra when they begin school algebra.

The formula contains up between the text and the structural information, as well as their mathematical symbols. Research on-line or off-line recognition formula is underway actively used in various fields, and various forms of the equation are implemented recognition system. Although many documents are included in the various formulas, it is not easy to enter a formula into the computer. Recognition of the expression is divided into two processes of symbol recognition and structural analysis. After analyzing the location information of each character is specified to recognize the effective area after each symbol, and to the structure analysis based on the proximity between the characters is recognized as an independent single formula. Furthermore, analyzing the relationship between the front and back each time a combination of the position relationship between each symbol, and then to add the symbol which was able to easily update the structure of the entire formula. In this paper, by using a scanner to scan the book formula was used to interpret the meaning of the recognized symbol has a relative size and location information of the expression symbol. An algorithm to remove the formulas for calculation of the number of formula is present at the same time is proposed. Using the proposed algorithms to scan the books in the formula in order to evaluate the performance verification as 100% separation and showed the recognition rate equation.

This study analyzed descriptions about dots, lines, and sides which are used as a basic elements to express geometric figures as followings: -In the aspect of formative art, dots form images and feelings through their concurrence when make a slight move to coordinates. The concurrence can bring out either positive or negative images; -Lines have unlimited variation as a core measure in body art. They can make optimal effects with different lines such as straight and curved lines of human body; -Sides express not only effects of texture and perspective but also of space and solid by color effects. Expressive characteristics and geometric shapes can be classified by tattoo, henna and body painting: First, colorful tattoos are favored by Caucasian and original tattoos are mostly used by yellow and colored races in the way of scarification to get decorative effects. Recently, a rapid cycle of fashion change in tattoo figures has developed a tentative method of tattooing and a variety of decoration methods. It has made it a lot easier to change a pattern of a tattoo. Tattoos are now popular among people because they no longer have to suffer from pains when they get their body tattooed for a long time. Since tattoos boast their unique beauty which consists of most dynamic and attractive images among the types of body art. It will be one of the most favored make-up methods in the nearest future. Second, geometric designs used in henna include crosses, dots, straight lines, triangles, date palms, and so on. Henna has been particularly loved as an instant decoration by the public since it gradually disappears as time goes on. Third, body painting enables to draw a three-dimensional effect because of its close relation with body movements in a limited space. Each individual will have a different feeling appealed in their body painting. Body painting has been applied to many different areas, especially to theatrical art using lights, music and performance altogether producing impromptu and experimental works. Unlike other arts such as painting, sculpture, visual and industrial arts, body painting has mobility. Since it is painted on a three-dimensional human body, it can bear originality expressing realistic objects or animals and strengthen creative functions using body lines. Moreover, geometric designs can be diversified by the sexes. As a result of analysis, geometric designs expressed in body art seemed to transcend expressions of beauty and turned out to be another way of decoration. Body art has also been used as a way to express visual integration and consolidation dynamically not by human instinct but by social changes. The needs for body art will grow as the future comes nearer and be recognized as a new and fresh value. Formative elements of geometric figures deliver visual impressions combined with human body and finally create more various types of body art in harmony of body lines.

The importance of corporate identity design has been recently highlighted in the marketing. However, logotype among marks that represent the image of a company has been neglected relatively comparing to symbol mark and logo mark. A logotype should be something to represent the personalities and characteristics of a company in suggestive ways. For such reasons, the image expressions by shape are thought to be important. Consequently, the formative aspects of visual communication design should be examined with emphases. However, it is true that studies on the formative aspects regarding logotypes and logo marks, especially studies on the shapes of font types and the responses of consumers to them, are lacking. Accordingly, this study examined the visual shape of logotype preferred by consumers and the shape of logotype preferred by consumers according to the business type of companies. As a result of research, there were differences in the elements of logotype preferred according to the business type of companies; as for construction companies is preferred the body of the type of dotum font with bold stem, without serif, with oblique, straight-line and curve-line endings; as for banks is preferred the body of the type of dotum font without serif, with oblique ending and with one-side curve style of serif, the stem in a middle level; as for laboratories is preferred the body of the type of dotum font with oblique ending, with bold stem and straight-line serif. The elements that should be commonly applied to construction companies, banks and laboratories appear to be the oblique ending but the curve-line ending and shallow stem seemed to be avoided. On the other hand, the serif, ending and gulim appeared to be applied differently according to the business type.

Regarding works that express objects realistically in painting, Gustave Courbet advocated realism in the mid-19th century, France, resisting the then academist style of painting, and works in realist style were produced in earnest by painters such as H. Daumier or Jean F. Millet, who went along with him. Later, realism has expanded into the realm of general literature, including fine art, which has had profound impacts on works of art and literary works. In comics, too, in the same historical context as a form of painting, realistic comics began to be produced by painters or cartoonists at the time. These realism comics are those dealing with stories based on facts, and in terms of contents, objective description and representation of the social realities of the times is one of the most important objectives, but it could not be concluded that in their visual aspect, that is, that of expressing the objects, they were realistic. In the meantime, a graphic novel was born, which was the intermediate form between comics and novels around the United States and Europe since the 1980s. Graphic novels appeared in forms and styles with strong literary and artistic values in the comics market in the U.S. which was full of the superhero genre (comics around heroes), and their major characteristics are very realistic expressions in terms of contents and visual aspect. They are complex and delicate and even have artistic, literary values as if readers read a fiction or literary work of which its narrative structures or pictures are produced with graphics. The characteristics of realistic expressions shown in graphic novels are very different from the previous works of comics. It is noteworthy that they began to be acknowledged as works of art like painting or illustration, thanks to their features of strongly individual auteurist painting style, a fairly high degree of completion of the works, and creative and experimental expression techniques or methods, instead of following the fashion of the times. In recent years, in South Korea, Hollywood blockbuster films have been released one after another and become box office hits, there are increasing interest and demand for the original graphic novels. Accordingly, many original graphic novels have been translated and started to be sold, and keeping pace with this global flow of fashion, some writers in Korea began to produce works of graphic novels. However, to look into the domestic works produced claiming to be graphic novels, there are various opinions on their format and authenticity. In this sense, this study focused on Ga-ya Kwon's Namhansanseong, one the representative works of Korean style graphic novels, and in particular, it attempted to analyze their characteristics and commonalities focusing on the visual aspect of realistic expressions of objects. It is expected that there would be an opportunity to seek for ways so that Korean style graphic novel can be further developed as a genre of comics, with competitiveness by looking back on the identity and present state of domestic graphic novels and developing and applying Korea's original subject matters differentiated from those of graphic novels in the U.S., Europe or Japan through this study. In addition, it is desired that they will be a new energizer for the stagnant domestic comics market.
