A Study on Gameplay Narrative of Contemporary Animated Films (당대 애니메이션 영화의 게임플레이성 서사에 관한 연구)

  • Gameplay exists not only in game activities, but also in other art forms. An animated film with strong gameplay whose gameplay narrative follows the presupposition principle, achieved through unimaginable sound effects, exaggerated visual styling, hypothetical time and space concepts, fictional storylines and character performances. The strength or the presence or absence of gameplay in animated films is reflected in the grasp and use of these gameplay elements in the process of animated film narratives. The gameplay narrative of animated films fully utilizes the characteristics of gameplay thinking. In the process of scriptwriting and narrative, it combines entertainment, action, adventure, competition and other elements to fully reflect the characteristics of "gameplay". Gameplay narratives often use the strategies of reverse setting, repetition and interaction, and rules and challenges setting, which not only enhances the fun of animated film narratives, but also attracts the attention of the audience, which then can enhance the audience's viewing experience.

  • Frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) algorithm is an image interpolation technology that improves the frame rate of moving pictures. This solves problems such as screen shake or blurry motion caused by low frame rate video in high-definition digital video systems, and provides viewers with a more free and smooth visual experience. In this paper, we propose a video compression technique using deep learning-based FRUC algorithm. The proposed method compresses and transmits after excluding some images from the original video, and uses a deep learning-based interpolation method in the decoding process to restore the excluded images, thereby compressing them with high efficiency. In the experiment, the compression performance was evaluated using the decoded image and the image restored by the FRUC algorithm after encoding the video by skipping 1 or 3 pages. When 1 and 3 sheets were excluded, the average BD-rate decreased by 81.22% and 27.80%. The reason that excluding three images has lower encoding efficiency than excluding one is because the PSNR of the image reconstructed by the FRUC method is low.

Test-retest Reliability and Concurrent Validity of a Headphone and Necklace Posture Correction System Developed for Office Workers

  • Background: Office workers experience neck or back pain due to poor posture, such as flexed head and forward head posture, during long-term sedentary work. Posture correction is used to reduce pain caused by poor posture and ensures proper alignment of the body. Several assistive devices have been developed to assist in maintaining an ideal posture; however, there are limitations in practical use due to vast size, unproven long-term effects or inconsistency of maintaining posture alignment. We developed a headphone and necklace posture correction system (HANPCS) for posture correction using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor that provides visual or auditory feedback. Objects: To demonstrate the test-retest reliability and concurrent validity of neck and upper trunk flexion measurements using a HANPCS, compared with a three-dimensional motion analysis system (3DMAS). Methods: Twenty-nine participants were included in this study. The HANPCS was applied to each participant. The angle for each action was measured simultaneously using the HANPCS and 3DMAS. The data were analyzed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) = [3,3] with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: The angular measurements of the HANPCS for neck and upper trunk flexions showed high intra- (ICC = 0.954-0.971) and inter-day (ICC = 0.865-0.937) values, standard error of measurement (SEM) values (1.05°-2.04°), and minimal detectable change (MDC) values (2.92°-5.65°). Also, the angular measurements between the HANPCS and 3DMAS had excellent ICC values (> 0.90) for all sessions, which indicates high concurrent validity. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that the HANPCS is as accurate in measuring angle as the gold standard, 3DMAS. Therefore, the HANPCS is reliable and valid because of its angular measurement reliability and validity.

  • In comics, panels serve a variety of dramatic purposes, including controlling the flow of the story through the size, placement, and order of panels; directing the eye to where characters or specific actions take place; expressing the passage or sequence of time; and using backgrounds, lighting, and color to emphasize emotion and convey mood. When applied to VR animation, these comic panels can give users a more immersive experience of the cartoon world in the VR space. In the VR animation "Mescaformhill: Missing Five," produced in 2022, the comic panels directing is very important to guide the viewer's attention, and in the VR space, the camera angle can be freely changed to realize various visual effects, and the physical interaction brings the comic panels directing to life. This can open up new ways of storytelling in VR animation and contribute to its successful expansion into new mediums.

Associations of Childhood Trauma with Psychopathology and Clinical Characteristics in Patients with Schizophrenia (조현병 환자의 아동기 외상 경험에 따른 정신병리 및 임상적 특성)

  • Objectives : This study was aimed to investigate the associations of childhood trauma with psychopathology and clinical characteristics in patients with schizophrenia. Methods : This study enrolled 66 inpatients with schizophrenia. Korean Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (K-CTQ) and Life Event Questionnaire (LEQ) were administered to assess childhood trauma. Psychopatholgy and clinical characteristics were assessed with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Korean Version of Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (K-ISMI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and visual analogue scale of EuroQoL-5 Dimension Index (EQ-5D). Results : Total scores on K-CTQ were positively associated with scores on the BDI, K-ISMI, PSS, and PANSS and negatively associated with the score on the EQ-5D. Among subscales of K-CTQ, emotional abuse was significantly associated with all measures for psychopathology and clinical characteristics. Patients with physical abuse (36.5%), emotional abuse (30.2%), or bullying (30.6%) according to the LEQ showed sighificanlty higher the ISMI score and lower EQ-5D score. Emotional abuse and bullying were also significantly associated with higher scores on BDI and/or PSS. Conclusion : Our results suggest that childhood trauma negatively influences on internalized stigma, depression, perceived stress and quality of life in patients with schizophrenia. Clinicians should carefully evalute and manage childhood traumatic experience of patients with schizophrenia.

  • The Korea Post is providing postal, savings, and insurance services to the public. Although it has been automated due to the development of the industry, the risk of industrial accidents is high. Safety and health education should be effectively conducted to reduce industrial accidents. In this study, a survey was conducted for postal service workers.   • This research endeavors to categorize a diverse range of hairstyles for both men and women in South Korea using hair images and subsequently generate 3D hair models based on this classification. The classification process relies on prominent visual features, resulting in the division of hairstyles into 14 distinct categories, including six styles for men and eight styles for women. By accurately matching the most appropriate hairstyle to the given hair image, the study aims to provide recommendations for the necessary hair models required for metaverse authoring tools, thus enabling realistic hair styling. This capability can be effectively utilized on platforms like metaverse, allowing users to seamlessly find and apply the 3D hair model that closely resembles their remotely captured or pre-existing hair images. Through this innovative approach, users can be presented with the most similar 3D hair model, enhancing their virtual hairstyling experience.

  • Live commerce, a rapidly growing sector, facilitates real-time interaction between streamers and consumers about specific products. This business model aids rational purchasing decisions by offering visual demonstrations of product usage. This study aims to identify potential uncertainties faced by consumers in live commerce and propose strategies to mitigate these uncertainties for streamers and platforms. A research hypothesis was formulated based on prior studies and tested through surveys conducted on consumers aged 20 and above with live commerce experience. The study revealed that a streamer's credibility (trustworthiness, expertness, and reputation) significantly impacts purchase intention by mitigating uncertainty. The platform's return policy also interacted with product uncertainty, influencing consumer purchase intention. These findings provide a roadmap for creating a tailored service strategy for live commerce platforms, focusing on reducing uncertainty in the product purchase process.

A Study on the Relationship Between Apparent Auditory Room Size and Acoustic Preference (공간의 청각적 규모감과 음향적 선호도간의 관계)

  • Human tend to rely their information about the size of a space on vision. However, it might be a common experience to perceive a certain difference in spaces without any visual difference, in such spaces as rooms for music performance, multimedia environments with multiple sound sources, and car cabins, where auditory experiences have a certain importance. In the present work, apparent auditory room size was measured at different positions in a room through a series of listening experiments. Also, measurement of room acoustic parameters was carried out and their relationships with perceived auditory room size were analyzed. The results suggest that apparent auditory room sizes were largely dependent on musical clarity, distance between a source and a receiver, and sound pressure level at the listening position. Also, the results from acoustic preference test suggest that smaller apparent room sizes were preferred for listening to orchestral, cello and flute music. The relationship between apparent auditory room size and vocal music was found to be statistically insignificant.

  • The corporate logo symbolizes the company's value, goals and vision as a visual symbol representing the company. It serves as a communication tool for companies by conveying different messages depending on design and color. As demands for ESG management have recently increased, companies have begun to implicitly demonstrate values such as environmental protection and corporate transparency through logos. Companies use logos as a strategy to visually emphasize the value they pursue and project the desired image as a signal. In this process, stakeholders who see the logo experience cognitive bias. Therefore, this study seeks to find out that ESG value can be indirectly communicated by the design of corporate logos, which can also affect a company's ESG evaluation. In addition, this study will examine the moderate effect that logos expect to encounter a greater bias effect as the companies actively include ESG-related issues in corporate disclosure data. This study conducted an analysis of 617 KOSPI-listed companies using ESG evaluation data from 2020 to 2022. The analysis confirmed the significant relation of the type of logo and ESG disclosure on ESG evaluation but found partially moderate effect of ESG disclosure.
