John Dewey's Theory of Criticism (존 듀이의 비평 이론)

  • The attempts to explain the criterion of art criticism can be divided into three directions. The first is that there is a universal criterion of criticism. The second is that criticism is a subjective impression of each critic. Therefore, there is no universal criterion beyond a subjective impression. The third is that denies both claims. It tries to and the objective criterion which is neither universal nor subjective. In this paper, I will see how John Dewey criticizes the first two theories and holds the third theory. Dewey's denial of the first theory can be seen in his view of the judical criticism. The judical criticism claims that art criticism can be made on the universal criterion, as judical decision can be made on the general rule supposed to be applicable to all cases. But Dewey claims that the judical criticism cannot explain what makes the artist the 'masters'. Defining art as an experience, Dewey claims that art is a process of doing and undergoing, and that art is essentially an interactive activity between men and his environment As environment changes, the experience of the environment also changes. So art should accept the possibility of new experience. But, since the judical criticism advocates of the universal criterion which cannot allow the changeability, Dewey denies it. On the other hand, Dewey's denial of the second theory can be seen in his view of the impressionist criticism. The impressionist criticism claims that criticism is to clarify the impression which is consisted of feeling and imagery the art object evokes. To this claim, Dewey replies that to clarify an impression is to analyze it, and analysis can proceed only by going beyond the impression to the judgement. As we have seen so far, Dewey has denied the judical criticism that there is a universal criterion supposed to be applicable to all criticism. He has also denied the impressionist criticism that there are only subjective responses to the art object, and hence that there is no criterion of criticism at all. For Dewey, these two criticism are based on the same false assumption of the criterion, although their conclusions are different from each other. Both the judical and impressionist criticism failed to realize the difference between the meaning of the criterion as applied in measurement and as used in criticism. Criticizing of these two views of criticism, Dewey claims that there is an objective criterion which is neither universal nor subjective. Art criticism is objective in tv#o senses, i. e., in the first sense that it can be judged by the properties of the art object and in the second sense that it can be verified by the communities of the critics.

A Study on the Placeness of Vacant Houses in the Street of Historical Culture - Focused on HangZhou Zhongshan Road - (역사문화거리 빈집의 장소성에 관한 연구 -중국 항저우 중산로를 중심으로-)

  • In the historical and cultural blocks with the most concentrated urban cultural heritage, the development of both side streets is impacted by the development of the main street, which shows a gradual decline. The loss of placeness on both side streets has resulted in more empty houses. Therefore, it is urgent to pay attention and take countermeasures to the empty houses in historical and cultural blocks. In this study, the vacant houses on Zhongshan Road in Hangzhou, China were taken as the object of study to understand the location theory and the six dimensions of Matthew Carmona's urban design. Meanwhile, it further analyzed the evaluative features of the placeness of the vacant houses in the historical and cultural street, to provide direction and basis for the flexible using of other empty houses in Zhongshan Road. Then by applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), it obtained the importance scale of each evaluative feature and compared the evaluation results of experts with the analysis results of cases, getting the results as follows: In the flexible application of vacant houses in historical and cultural street, the evaluation result of placeness indicates that this kind of usage should be in order of societal level, perceptional level, functional level, morphological level, visual hierarchy and temporal level; among the evaluative features, security, identity, usability, individuality, aesthetics, connection, diversity, openness, continuity, accessibility, order and history should be considered in turn.

User Behaviors Involved Infographic and the Analysis of Their Specific Types Appearing in the Middle School English Textbook : Focusing on the Types According to the Teaching-learning Standards (영어교과서에 활용된 사용자 행위 반영형 인포그래픽 유형 분석: 교수·학습기준에 따른 유형을 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to consider application methods of infographic that corresponds to the educational goals of English subject, which is applied with different teaching and learning standards than other subjects. The aim of this study is to analyze the types and the characteristics of 'infographic completed by know-how learning', in other words, 'User behaviors involved infographic', which is frequently used in English textbook. Based on an analysis according to the teaching and learning standards, infographic used in English textbook were suggested in three types, which are 'General Concept', 'Significance' and 'Signification' centered infographic. In addition, according to the level of diagram composition, the main visualization attributes were derived as 'Overview', 'Structure', 'Relationships', 'Sequence', 'Transition between states' and 'Messages'. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, it is necessary to conduct a study on diverse display methods for 'Signification-centered infographic' that need to be displayed on the basis of two or more visual attributes. Second, as the purpose of application for applying infographic in English textbook collides with that in information design fields, it is found that verification is required on the educational effects in relation to this aspect.

  • 원자력발전소에서 발생하는 고장정지 사건에 내포된 인적오류의 발생내용을 흥미있고 현장감 있게 묘사시킴과 동시에 종사원들의 인적오류를 저감시키기 위한 새로운 교육훈련방 법으로써 멀티미디어 기술의 사용을 고려하였다. 즉, 컴퓨터 환경하에서 숫자와 텍스트, 음 향 및 음성, 그래픽, 애니메이션, 화상 등의 미디어를 사용하여 인적오류로 인한 고장정지 사건발생의 내용을 전달하는 새로운 교육훈련 방법을 사용하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 고장정 지 사건과 관련한 원자력발전소 구성정보와 종사원의 활동정보를 입출력하기 위한 멀티미디어 인터페이스를 설계하였다. 설계는 멀티미디어 제공환경 구축과 인터페이스 운영논리 설정의 두단계로 구성한 절차에 따라 수행하였다. 멀티미디어 인터페이스는 원자력발전소 구성정보를 설계하여 저장시켜둔 퍼스널 컴퓨터 환경하에서 운영되며, 입력 및 출력의 두가지 인터페이스 를 갖는다. 입력 인터페이스는 인적 오류를 포함한 고장정지 사건의 발생내용을 숫자, 텍스트, 음성 미디어로 받아들여 출력 인터페이스에서 사용될 수 있도록 미디어 결합을 수행하고, 컴퓨터 저장장치에 저장하는 기능을 수행한다. 출력 인터페이스는 저장장치에 기록된 내용을 판독하여 고장정지의 진행경위와 인적오류의 발생내용을 숫자, 문자, 텍스트, 음성, 음향, 그래픽 애니메 이션, 정지화상으로 원자력발전소 종사원들에게 출력시켜 주는 기능을 수행한다. 멀티미디어 출력정보는 사용자가 CRT 화면에 제공되는 버튼 또는 Click Touch 메뉴를 사용함에 따라 이전, 이후의 출력정보로 전이할 수 있도록 하였다.상대적으로 중요한 검사 항목으로 나타났다. 또한 상대적 중요도 결과를 적용한 적성검사 성적이 적용하지 않은 적성검사 성적에 비해 비행성적에 대한 예측 능력이 좋은 것으로 평가되었다.al age)가 있다는 것을 의미하는 것이다. 한편, 생산현장에서는 자동화, 기계화가 진보되어 육체적인 노동이 경감된 결과, 중고령자라도 할 수 있는 작업이 많아지고 있다. 또, VDT (Visual Dislay Terminal) 작업과 같은 정보처리 작업의 수요가 증가하여 그 인재의 부족이 지적되고 있다. 따라서 중고령자의 기능을 조사하여 어떠한 작업에 적합한가를 판단하는 것이 중요한 과제로 되었다. 그러나 노동에는 많은 기능이 관여 하고, 그 내용에 따라서 요구되는 기능이 서로 다르기 때문에 노동적응능력의 기본적인 기능으로 보여지는 것에 좁혀서 작업능력의 연령증가 변화에 대하여다원적 평가를 하는 것이 실제적이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 인간이 가지고 있는 다수의 기능중에서 수지교 치성과 연령증가와의 관계를 조사한다. 만약 연령증가 만으로 수지교치성을 평가 할 수 없는 경우에는 어떠한 요인이 수지기민성의 변화에 영향을 미치는가를 검토한다.t list)에서 자동적으로 사건들의 순서가 결정되도록 확장하였으며, 설비 제어방식에 있어서도 FIFO, LIFO, 우선 순위 방식등을 선택할 수 있도록 확장하였다. The Design And Implementation of Robot Training Kit for Java Programming Learning (Java 프로그래밍 학습을 위한 로봇 트레이닝키트의 설계 및 구현)

  • The latest programming paradigm has been mostly geared toward object-oriented programming and visual programming based on the object-oriented programming. However, object-oriented programming has a more difficult and complicated concept compared with that of existing structural programming technique; thus it has been very difficult to educate students in the IT-related department. This study designed and implemented a Java robot training kit in which the Java virtual machine is built so that it may enhance the desire and motivation of students for learning the object-oriented programming using the training kit which is possible to attach various input and output devices and to control a robot. The developed Java robot training kit is able to communicate with a computer through the USB interface, and it also enables learners to manufacture a robot for education and to practice applied programming because there is a general purpose input and output port inside the kit, through which diverse input and output devices, DC motor, and servo motor can be operated. Accordingly, facing the IT fusion era, the wall between the academic circles and the major becomes lower and the need for introducing education about creative engineering object-oriented programming language is emerging. At this point, the Java robot training kit developed in this study is expected to make a great commitment in this regard.

  • 제품 설계 및 디자인의 과정이 고도로 높은 기술력을 바탕으로 이루어지고 있으며, 국내의 기업체도 우수한 기술력과 높은 품질로 경쟁력을 키우며 다양한 고객의 요구에 대응하여 고객만족을 꾀하여야 한다 이의 기반이 되는 제품의 품질과 사양은 설계에서 시작되는데 아직 국내의 많은 기업들은 설계 및 제작 단계에서 많은 시간과 비용을 낭비하고 있다. 3D Modeling Solution은 설계오류가 적으며 시각적인 설계를 할 수 있어 최소의 인력으로 제품을 설계할 수 있는 장점이 있지만 너무 많은 기능으로 인해 사용자가 쉽게 적용하고 사용하기 어려운 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 산업현장의 어려움을 덜기 위해 3D 전용 Modeling Solution에 사용자가 쉽게 부품을 조림할 수 있는 엔진을 접목시켜 누구나 사용가능하고 신속한 신제품 개발이 이루어지도록 하였다. 본 연구에서는 Autodesk사의 Inventor와 Microsoft Visual Basic으로 Inventor에서 제공하고 있는 API함수를 이용하여 조립자동화를 위한 조립조건 생성, 조립자동화, 부품 재질변경, 수동조립 그리고 부품의 DB화를 구현하였다. 이 프로그램은 조립조건 설정 폼을 이용하여 부품의 조립속성을 생성하고 부품조립 폼을 이용하여 조립자동화를 실행할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 모든 부품을 Database화 하여 부품을 손쉽게 탐색할 수 있으며, 추후에도 언제든지 재사용이 가능하여 제품설계 효율성을 극대화 할 수 있다. 현장 적용 시 신속한 신제품 개발과 품질의 우수성으로 고객만족을 꾀할 수 있으며, 시간과 비용을 동시에 줄여 경쟁사와의 경쟁우위를 높이는 해결책이 될 수 있다.-110 마이크로프로세서와 21285 주제어기가 장착된 EBSA-285 보드이다. 측정하면서 수행하였다. 검증 결과 random 상태에서는 문헌자료에 부합되는 예측결과를 보여주었으나, intermediate와 constant 상태에서는 문헌보다 다소 낮은 속도를 보여주었다 이러한 속도차는 추후 현장 데이터를 수집하여 보다 실질적인 검증을 통하여 조정되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.지발광(1.26초)보다 구애발광(1.12초)에서 0.88배 감소하였고, 암컷에서 정지발광(2.99초)보다 구애발광(1.06초)에서 0.35배 감소하였다. 발광양상에서 발광주파수는 수짓의 정지발광에서 0.8 Hz, 수컷 구애발광에서 0.9 Hz, 암컷의 정지발광에서 0.3 Hz, 암컷의 구애발광에서 0.9 Hz로 각각 나타났다. H. papariensis의 발광파장영역은 400 nm에서 700 nm에 이르는 모든 영역에서 확인되었으며 가장 높은 첨두치는 600 nm에 있고 500에서 600 nm 사이의 파장대가 가장 두드러지게 나타났다. 발광양상과 어우러진 교미행동은 Hp system과 같은 결과를 얻었다.하는 방법을 제안한다. 즉 채널 액세스 확률을 각 슬롯에서 예약상태에 있는 음성 단말의 수뿐만 아니라 각 슬롯에서 예약을 하려고 하는 단말의 수에 기초하여 산출하는 방법을 제안하고 이의 성능을 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션에 의해 새로 제안된 채널 허용 확률을 산출하는 방식의 성능을 비교한 결과 기존에 제안된 방법들보다 상당한 성능의 향상을 볼 수 있었다., 인삼이 성장될 때 부분적인 영양상태의 불충분이나 기후 등에 따른 영향을 받을 수 있기 때문에 앞으로 이에 대한 많은 연구가 이루어져야할 것으로 판단된다.

An Evaluation of the Fire and Explosion Effect by BTX released in a Chemical Plant (화학공장에서의 BTX누출에 의한 화재$\cdot$폭발 영향 평가)

  • Accident analysis are useful in the design stage of chemical plants and their surrounding structures. Also, analysis results are required for safety management of existing plants. In this paper, the fire and explosion effect by BTX released was evaluated. The computer program was prepared for accident analysis and adopted for evaluating the magnitude of fire (pool fire) and explosion (UVCE) effect. The thermal radiation was used as a measure of fire magnitude and the overpressure as a measure of explosion magnitude. And probit analysis was made for each case. As a case study, benzene tank model was used. The simulation results of explosion of benzene showed that the damage within 20 meters from the accident spot was severe and the damage beyond 60 meters was negligible. The simulation results of fire of benzene showed that the damage in summer is bigger than that in winter. And the damage of city located inland seems to be bigger than that of city in seaside. And thermal radiation effects was negligible beyond 40 meters-distance from the accident spot.

Acupuncture in Patients with a Vertebral Compression Fracture: A Protocol for a Randomized, Controlled, Pilot Clinical Trial

  • Objectives: A vertebral compression fracture (VCF) is characterized by back pain and fracture of a vertebral body on spinal radiography. VCFs of the thoraco lumbar spine are common in the elderly. In general, appropriate analgesics should be prescribed to reduce pain and, thus, promote early mobilization. The ideal treatment approach for VCFs has not been determined. In Korea, acupuncture and herbal medication have been used to treat VCFs for many years. There is empirical evidence that acupuncture might benefit patients with a VCF. However, no randomized, controlled, clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and the safety of acupuncture for treating a VCF have been published. Therefore, we designed a randomized, controlled, pilot, clinical trial to obtain information for the design of a further full scale trial. Methods: A five week protocol for a randomized, controlled, pilot, clinical trial is presented. Fourteen patients will be recruited and randomly allocated to two groups: a control group receiving interlaminar epidural steroid injections once a week for three weeks, and an experimental group receiving interlaminar epidural steroid injections plus acupuncture treatment (three acupuncture sessions per week for three weeks, nine sessions in total). The primary outcomes will be the pain intensity (visual analogue scale and PainVision$^{TM}$ system). The secondary outcome measurements will be the answers on the short form McGill pain questionnaire and the oswestry disability index. Assessments will be made at baseline and at one, three, and five weeks. The last assessment (week five) will take place two weeks after treatment cessation. This study will provide both an indication of feasibility and a clinical foundation for a future large scale trial. The outcomes will provide additional resources for incorporating acupuncture into existing treatments, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, narcotics and vertebral augmentation. Comparison of Emotional Words by Products (제품 유형별 표출되는 감성어휘 비교)

  • This research extracted emotional words for measuring user's emotions expressed while using a cellular phone and a web. And then the emotional words were compared to find out whether the difference in emotional words by the type of products. The results of this study suggest that the hardware-oriented products used for specific purpose such as cellular phone extracted a lot of emotional words related to 'Satisfaction in Usability' and 'Pleasure'. 'Satisfaction in Usability' are conceived satisfying in usability or practicality of product. 'Pleasure' are pleasant emotions expressed while using a product. However the emotional words related to 'Aesthetics' and 'Novelty' were omitted. 'Aesthetics' are expressed by product's appearance and by various visual information while using a product. 'Novelty' are expressed by something that is novel and new that has never been experienced. On the other hand the software-oriented products used rather to find something better and new information than to perform specific tasks such as web extracted a lot of emotional words related to 'Novelty'. Therefore, the results of this research have found evidence that it is desirable to make a set of subjective evaluation scale by the type of products. When making the subjective evaluation scale, it is important to use appropriate emotional words for the purpose of use and the characteristics of those products.

Design of Multiple-symbol Lookup Table for Fast Thumbnail Generation in Compressed Domain (압축영역에서 빠른 축소 영상 추출을 위한 다중부호 룩업테이블 설계)

  • As the population of HDTV is growing, among many useful features of modern set top boxes (STBs) or digital video recorders (DVRs), video browsing, visual bookmark, and picture-in-picture capabilities are very frequently required. These features typically employ reduced-size versions of video frames, or thumbnail images. Most thumbnail generation approaches generate DC images directly from a compressed video stream. A discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficient for which the frequency is zero in both dimensions in a compressed block is called a DC coefficient and is simply used to construct a DC image. If a block has been encoded with field DCT, a few AC coefficients are needed to generate the DC image in addition to a DC coefficient. However, the bit length of a codeword coded with variable length coding (VLC) cannot be determined until the previous VLC codeword has been decoded, thus it is required that all codewords should be fully decoded regardless of their necessary for DC image generation. In this paper, we propose a method especially for fast DC image generation from an I-frame using multiple-symbol lookup table (mLUT). The experimental results show that the method using the mLUT improves the performance greatly by reducing LUT count by 50$\%$.
