  • The amount of audio-visual records production is growing rapidly and its formats are various. However, the audio-visual records are hardly managed and transferred. There are four different problems for checking how to transfer and manage audio-visual records of the central government: production and register, management and utilization, transfer, and dedicated program management. For solving these problems, the study proposes the development of process tools for audio-visual records, such as dedicated processes and S/W; the standardization of audio-visual records' management; the changes of audio-visual records officer's recognition; the need to educate dedicated audio-visual records managers; the recruitment of professionals dedicated to audio-visual records in the National Archives of Korea. Additionally, it is necessary to make an effort into practical use and preservation of audio-visual records.

  • This study seeks to find an approach tool that allows to consider both ecological and visual aspect in developing an ecological space. Main objective of this study is to develop a planting design method in consideration of correlation between high visual preference and ecological diversity. To this end, an integrated method based on visual design principles and landscape ecological principles was developed first. Then study areas of 20 natural areas and 10 urban areas were selected to survey and analyze visual preference and ecological diversity. The result showed that scale is an element that has the greatest impact on visual preference. In areas with high ecological diversity, scale and connectivity had the biggest impact. In order to have a planting design desirable visually and ecologically based on these factors, it may be divided into following three issues.(1) In oder to increase ecological diversity in areas with strong visual preference, a priority should be given to introduce techniques promoting harmony among dominant species of various scales and other species. At the same time, there should be efforts to secure connectivity. (2) To improve visual preferences in areas with high ecological diversity, close-range, medium-range, and distant landscapes should be ensured by aligning colors and connectivity of various scales with other factors. (3) Also, a target area should be developed into a visually preferred and ecologically sound area by supplementing form and interlocking issues and identifying the spirit of the place. This study offers a way to improve visual preference and promote ecological diversity indeveloping ecological parks for the future. In landscape planning and design, it is important to secure various scales and connectivity as high-priority principles.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate and review the previous researches about objective measuring fatigue caused by visual stimuli. Also, we analyze possibility of alternative visual fatigue measurement methods using facial expression recognition and gesture recognition. Background: In most previous researches, visual fatigue is commonly measured by survey or interview based subjective method. However, the subjective evaluation methods can be affected by individual feeling's variation or other kinds of stimuli. To solve these problems, signal and image processing based visual fatigue measurement methods have been widely researched. Method: To analyze the signal and image processing based methods, we categorized previous works into three groups such as bio-signal, brainwave, and eye image based methods. Also, the possibility of adopting facial expression or gesture recognition to measure visual fatigue is analyzed. Results: Bio-signal and brainwave based methods have problems because they can be degraded by not only visual stimuli but also the other kinds of external stimuli caused by other sense organs. In eye image based methods, using only single feature such as blink frequency or pupil size also has problem because the single feature can be easily degraded by other kinds of emotions. Conclusion: Multi-modal measurement method is required by fusing several features which are extracted from the bio-signal and image. Also, alternative method using facial expression or gesture recognition can be considered. Application: The objective visual fatigue measurement method can be applied into the fields of quantitative and comparative measurement of visual fatigue of next generation display devices in terms of human factor.

The participants were two elementary school teachers in Seoul and taught science subjects. The lesson topic applied to this study were 'Structure and Function of Our Body' in the second semester of fifth grade and 'Volcano and Earthquake' in the second semester of fourth grade. The mobile eye tracker SMI's ETG 2w, which is a binocular tracking system was used in this study. In this study, the actual practice time, participant's visual attention, visual intake time average, and visual intake time average were analyzed by class phase. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the actual class execution time, the actual class execution time was almost in line with the lesson plan after the TPEP application. Second, visual attention in the areas related to teaching and learning activities was high after applying TPEP. Factors affecting the progress of the class and cognitive burdens were identified quantitatively and objectively through visual attention. Third, as a result of analyzing the visual intake time average of participants, there was a statistically significant difference in all classes. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the visual intake time average of participants, the results were statistically significant in the introduction(video), activity 1, activity 2, and activity 3 stages in the lecture type class. The Teacher Participation-oriented Education Program (TPEP) for Elementary School Teachers to Improve Class Expertise in Science Classes can extend elementary science class expertise such as self-class analysis, eye tracking, linguistic, gesture, and class design beyond traditional class analysis and consulting.

  • Discomfort glare is an important factor influencing appraisal for lighting environment. Unified Glare Rating (UGR) which has been proposed by CIE is one of the formula for evaluating discomfort glare. Position index is an important factor in the UGR formula. Position index was proposed by Guth in 1949. It has been used until present limiting upper visual field. Lower visual field has different sensation of brightness in comparing with upper visual field. Therefore, it is necessary to propose position index about lower visual field. The objective of this study is to investigate the brightness sensation in upper and lower visual field. First, the visual field was measured on the self-made Glare Tester. Second, luminance of the Borderline between Comfort and Discomfort (BCD) was measured on the glare Tester. Circular sources of brightness were located at various angular distances from the line of vision along five meridians, $0^{\circ}$, $45{\circ}$, $90{\circ}$, $-45{\circ}$, $-90{\circ}$. The size of the glare source is 0.0011sr. The luminance of the surrounding field, which extended over the entire visual field, was maintained $34ccd/m^2$. Ten subjects aged from 25 to 29 were participated in the experiment. The results show that the luminance of BCD on the line of vision is $4337cd/m^2$ and the glare sensation of the lower visual field is more sensitive than the upper visual field.
