  • The evaluation of the local festival events that supports promising local festivals needs to well reflect the degree of success of the local festival events that have been implemented. Many local governments of the country have competitively implemented local festival events, some of which turned to be a success, while others not. This alerts the need for investigating whether the evaluation of the local festival events is appropriate, in order to better execute the provincial finance. The paper investigates this using the data of cultural tourism festivals from 2012 to 2014. More specifically, the paper first examines the relationships between choice dimensions (festival success index) and visitors' satisfaction, and then identify whether visitors' satisfaction and festival evaluation results are significantly correlated. This after all indicates whether the festival success index are well reflected in the festival evaluation results. The findings tell that choice dimensions well explain the visitors' satisfaction, whereas the visitors' satisfaction does not have a significant correlation with the festival evaluation results. This potentially implies that the current scheme of the local festival evaluation needs more rigorous validity test and additional research and practice for the improved evaluation protocol.

  • Traditional music not only reveals Korean culture to foreigners but also it enhances the pride of national identity for Koreans themselves. Objectives of this study are how can we encourage and appreciate traditional music to ordinary visitors (non-musicians). Music festivals could be a means to educate and captivate them towards the appreciation of Korean traditional music. For this purpose, this study checked the satisfaction level between local residents and domestic visitors(including foreigners) concerning music festival programs, and also proposed a practical implications to traditional music organizers. According to the result, local visitors' satisfaction level were higher than other domestic visitors. Visitors showed higher interest in the music instruments like a 'Gayageum' they are able to relate to, rather than with other traditional unfamiliar musical instruments. It is thus crucial to encourage students and ordinary citizens to interact with traditional music instruments so as to enhance the satisfaction levels of domestic visitors. Some practical implications for traditional music organizers are that it is recommendable to have more guides who have thorough knowledge of traditional Korean music and who is able to interpret festival programs in foreign languages for foreign visitors.

Summarizing the propensity of visitor's spending to local festivals, visitors of two rice festivals buy or tended to buy things on impulse. Therefore, festival industry needs to take measures to efficiently accommodate their expenditures from the stage of designing festivals.

  • Oegosan Onggi Village can be characterized by having industrial significance and cultural significance of Onggi. However Onggijang(Onggi maker) worked in poor conditions because the village was in the limited development district. Throughout the new millenium phenomenon of Well-being, the awareness of cultural values has been increased while local government designated Onggi as Local Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH). In this condition, Ulsan metro city and Ulju county paid attention to Onggi Village as tourist attractions. First, they worked improving condition of village through Cultural Tourist Attraction Plan. Second, they extended their participation in Onggi Festival so the festival growed. Third, they designated Onggijang in Village as Local ICH. These activities were the effort in order to revitalize the village, however the cultural tourist attraction plan was solely centralized into tourist attractions. Thus, the work condition of Onggijang was not considered sufficiently so the work condition had become more inconvenient than the previous situation. In the case of Onggi festival, the outward development has been accomplished in accordance with the growth of festival scale and visitors, while the identity of festival had been weaken so the Onggijang barely attended the Onggi festival. The designation of ICH was also the unilateral decision, Onggijang had been in the conflict relationship between Onggijang concerning the craftsmanship and maintenance of the ICH. Local Government had power on their Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH). Therefore we need to seek for role and functions as community on ICH.

Sampling was conducted at the Flower Blossom Festival in Juju, 2004. Data were collected through on-site surveys by face-to-face interview for three days-between April 4th and April 6th. Data analyses were carried out by using structural equation model. Two hypotheses were tested to represent the relationships between exogenous and endogenous variables. The exogenous variable selected for this study is service quality Endogenous variables are place attachment and destination loyalty. The findings provided a supported structural model of the relationships between service quality, place attachment and loyalty. Festival visitors who perceive high service quality tend to have high place attachment that leads to the intention to revisit and positive word-of-mouth to others. The results of this study suggest that festival managers need to understand visitors' perception of service quality, place attachment in order to better predict their destination loyalty.
