The Automated Measurement of Tool Wear using Computer Vision (컴퓨터 비젼에 의한 공구마모의 자동계측)

  • Cutting tool life monitoring is a critical element needed for designing unmanned machining systems. This paper describes a tool wear measurement system using computer vision which repeatedly measures flank and crater wear of a single point cutting tool. This direct tool wear measurement method is based on an interactive procedure utilizing a image processor and multi-vision sensors. A measurement software calcultes 7 parameters to characterize flank and crater wear. Performance test revealed that the computer vision technique provides precise, absolute tool-wear quantification and reduces human maesurement errors.

Compensation of Installation Errors in a Laser Vision System and Dimensional Inspection of Automobile Chassis

  • Laser vision inspection systems are becoming popular for automated inspection of manufactured components. The performance of such systems can be enhanced by improving accuracy of the hardware and robustness of the software used in the system. This paper presents a new approach for enhancing the capability of a laser vision system by applying hardware compensation and using efficient analysis software. A 3D geometrical model is developed to study and compensate for possible distortions in installation of gantry robot on which the vision system is mounted. Appropriate compensation is applied to the inspection data obtained from the laser vision system based on the parameters in 3D model. The present laser vision system is used for dimensional inspection of car chassis sub frame and lower arm assembly module. An algorithm based on simplex search techniques is used for analyzing the compensated inspection data. The details of 3D model, parameters used for compensation and the measurement data obtained from the system are presented in this paper. The details of search algorithm used for analyzing the measurement data and the results obtained are also presented in the paper. It is observed from the results that, by applying compensation and using appropriate algorithms for analyzing, the error in evaluation of the inspection data can be significantly minimized, thus reducing the risk of rejecting good parts.

A Study on Secondary School Student's Recognition of Vision-dependent Jump in the Geometry Proof (기하 증명에서 중학생들의 시각의존적 비약 인식에 대한 연구)

  • Although a figure expression has a role of mediator in the geometry proof, it is not admitted to prove based on a vision-dependent feature. This study starts from the problem that although a figure expression has an important role in the geometry proof, a lot of students don't understand the limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression. We will investigate this problem to understand cognitive characteristic of students. Moreover, we try to get the didactical implications. To do this, we investigate the cognitive ability for a limit of vision-dependent feature, targeting a class of middle school seniors And we will have a personal interview with four students who show a lack of sense of limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression and two students for who it is difficult to judge that they don't understand the limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression. We will observe and analyzed the cognitive characteristic of six students. Based on the analysis, we will finally discuss on the didactical implications to help students understand the limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression.

Particle Filter Based Feature Points Tracking for Vision Based Navigation System (영상기반항법을 위한 파티클 필터 기반의 특징점 추적 필터 설계)

  • In this study, a feature-points-tracking algorithm is suggested using a particle filter for vision based navigation system. By applying a dynamic model of the feature point, the tracking performance is increased in high dynamic condition, whereas a conventional KLT (Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi) cannot give a solution. Futhermore, the particle filter is introduced to cope with irregular characteristics of vision data. Post-processing of recorded vision data shows that the tracking performance of suggested algorithm is more robust than that of KLT in high dynamic condition.

  • Railway system has been unmanned and high-speedy. Korean railway corporations need a more effective and smarter system for operation and maintenance. So there are many theses that studied the intelligent operation and maintenance system using vision based technologies for railway corporation. This paper analyzes domestic theses which studied the intelligent vision based system for railway safety, railway vehicle and facilities and proposes research which uses the more powerful vision based technology with deep-learning for railway corporation.

Development of Training Instruments on Visual functions using HMD type Display and Investigation of its Demand

  • We constructed 3-D images by HMD (Head Mount Display) type and polarization technique through which a training instrument of binocular function based on clinical vision therapy was developed and investigated its demand. To design the instrument that performs Test- Diagnosis - (Prescription) - Training - Treatment we provided a customized training method for the trainers using optical IT instruments of binocular test. Through the contents and the instruments of the vision therapy technology developed in this work we can replace the current vision test instruments to those costing 60% lower price in eye clinics and eye glasses shops. By replacing the existing vision test instruments it is possible to create a new market of the vision therapy in vision training instruments.

  • Machine vision is a technology that helps the computer as if a person recognizes and determines things. In recent years, as advanced technologies such as optical systems, artificial intelligence and big data advanced in conventional machine vision system became more accurate quality inspection and it increases the manufacturing efficiency. In machine vision systems using deep learning, the image quality of the input image is very important. However, most images obtained in the industrial field for quality inspection typically contain noise. This noise is a major factor in the performance of the machine vision system. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of the machine vision system, it is necessary to eliminate the noise of the image. There are lots of research being done to remove noise from the image. In this paper, we propose an autoencoder based machine vision system to eliminate noise in the image. Through experiment proposed model showed better performance compared to the basic autoencoder model in denoising and image reconstruction capability for MNIST and fashion MNIST data sets.

A Study on the Visual Servoing of Autonomous Mobile Inverted Pendulum (자율주행 모바일 역진자의 비주얼서보잉에 대한 연구)

  • This paper proposes an optimal three-dimensional coordinate implementation of the vision sensor using two CCD cameras. The PBVS (Position based visual servoing) is implemented using the positional information obtained from images. Stereo vision by PBVS method that has enhanced every frame using calibration parameters is effective in the distance calculation. The IBVS (Image based visual servoing) is also implemented using the difference between reference and obtained images. Stereo vision by IBVS method calculates the distance using rotation angle of motors that correspond eyes and neck without enhanced images. The PBVS method is compared with the IBVS method in terms of advantages, disadvantages, computing time, and performances. Finally, the IBVS method is applied for the dual arm manipulator on the mobile inverted pendulum. The autonomous mobile inverted pendulum is successfully demonstrated using the center of the manipulator's mass.

A vision-based robotic assembly system

  • In this paper, design and development experiences of a vision based robotic assembly system for electronic components are described. Specifically, the overall system consists of the following three subsystems each of which employs a 16 bit Preprocessor MC 68000 : supervisory controller, real-time vision system, and servo system. The three microprocessors are interconnected using the time shared common memory bus structure with hardwired bus arbitration scheme and operated as a master-slave type in which each slave is functionally fixed in view of software. With this system architecture, the followings are developed and implemented in this research; (i) the system programming language, called 'CLRC', for man-machine interface including the robot motion and vision primitives, (ii) real-time vision system using hardwired chain coder, (iii) the high-precision servo techniques for high speed de motors and high speed stepping motors. The proposed control system were implemented and tested in real-time successfully.

  • n industrial computer vision systems, the image quality is dependent on the parameters such as light source, illumination method, optics, and surface properties. Most of them are related with the lighting system, which is designed in heuristic based on the designer's experimental knowledge. In this paper, a design code by which the optimal lighting method and light source for computer vision systems can be found are suggested based on experimental results. The design coed is applied to the design of the lighting system for the transistor marking inspection system, and the overall performance of the machine vision system with the lighting system show the effectiveness of the proposed design code.
