Along with the development of coasts, islands and mountains, the demand of long-span bridges increases which, in turn, brings forth the construction of cable-supported bridges like suspension and cable-stayed bridges. There are various types of statically indeterminate structures widely applied that supported the main girder with stay cables, main cables, hanger cables with aesthetic structural appearance. As to the cable-supported bridges, the health monitoring of a bridge can be identified by measuring tension force on cable repeatedly. The tension force on cable is measured either by direct measurement of stress of cable using load cell or hydraulic jack, or by vibration method estimating tension force using cable shape and measured dynamic characteristics. In this study, a method to estimate dynamic characteristics of hanger cables by using a digital image processing is suggested. Digital images are acquired by a portable digital camcorder, which is the sensor to remotely measure dynamic responses considering convenient and economical aspects for use. A digital image correlation(DIC) technique is applied for digital image processing, and an image transform function(ITF) to correct the geometric distortion induced from the deformed images is used to estimate subpixel. And, the correction of motion of vision-based measurement system using a fixed object in an image without installing additional sensor can be enhanced the resolution of dynamic responses and modal frequencies of hanger cables.

This paper presents the new obstacle avoidance method that is composed of vision and sonar sensors, also a navigation algorithm is proposed. Sonar sensors provide poor information because the angular resolution of each sonar sensor is not exact. So they are not suitable to detect relative direction of obstacles. In addition, it is not easy to detect the obstacle by vision sensors because of an image disturbance. In This paper, the new obstacle direction measurement method that is composed of sonar sensors for exact distance information and vision sensors for abundance information. The modified splitting/merging algorithm is proposed, and it is robuster for an image disturbance than the edge detecting algorithm, and it is efficient for grouping of the obstacle. In order to verify our proposed algorithm, we compare the proposed algorithm with the edge detecting algorithm via experiments. The direction of obstacle and the relative distance are used for the inputs of the fuzzy controller. We design the angular velocity controllers for obstacle avoidance and for navigation to center in corridor, respectively. In order to verify stability and effectiveness of our proposed method, it is apply to a vision and sonar based mobile robot navigation system.

In this paper, we describe a measurement system based on vision for detecting the rotation axis of dimpled golf ball. Some golf balls have wrong rotation axis owing to bad production and scratch. A flying golf ball makes sliced or curved motion mainly to owing the wrong rotation axis of golf ball. Dimples of golf ball make a golf ball higher and more straight flying. When we hit a golf ball by driver or iron club, the dimpled ball flies straight and rotates as well. While the ball flying, the rotating axis of the ball convergence. And this makes the ball motion curved. If we hit a golf ball in direction of the rotation axis, the flying ball makes straight motion. In this paper, we develop a control system to detect convergence axis and time of flying golf ball based on vision system. To show validity of the developed system, We experimented several case for dimpled golf balls.

This paper proposes a technological solution for improving the recognition direction of target objects for automatic vision inspection by machine vision. This paper proposes a technological solution for improving the recognition direction of target objects for automatic vision inspection by machine vision. This enables the automatic machine vision inspection to detect the image of the inspection object regardless of the position and orientation of the object, eliminating the need for a separate inspection jig and improving the automation level of the inspection process. This study develops the technology and method that can be applied to the wire harness manufacturing process as the inspection object and present the result of real system. The results of the system implementation was evaluated by the accredited institution. This includes successful measurement in the accuracy, detection recognition, reproducibility and positioning success rate, and achievement the goal in ten kinds of color discrimination ability, inspection time within one second and four automatic mode setting, etc.

The purpose of this paper is to build a computer vision system that endows an autonomous mobile robot the ability of automatic measuring of the analog and digital meters installed in nuclear power plant(NPP). This computer vision system takes a significant part in the organization of automatic surveillance and measurement system having the instruments and gadzets in NPP under automatic control situation. In the meter image captured by the camera, the meter area is sorted out using mainly the thresholding and the region labeling and the meter value recognition process follows. The positions and the angles of the needles in analog meter images are detected using the projection based method. In the case of digital meters, digits and points are extracted and finally recognized through the neural network classifier. To use available database containing relevant information about meters and to build fully automatic meter recognition system, the segmentation and recognition of the function-name in the meter printed around the meter area should be achieved for enhancing identification reliability. For thus, the function- name of the meter needs to be identified and furthermore the scale distributions and values are also required to be analyzed for building the more sophisticated system and making the meter recognition fully automatic.
Purpose: A system to measure the visibility of agricultural tractor operators was designed and evaluated according to ISO standards, and a blind area diagram around the tested tractor was created based on the manual method recommended by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Methods: A visibility measurement system was designed and evaluated based on the ISO 5006 and ISO 5721-1 standards. Two bulbs used to simulate the operator's eyes were mounted on a bar with a supporting frame. A wooden frame was used to determine the seat index point position. The 12-m visibility test circle was divided into six sectors of vision, and the test tractor was placed at the center of the circle. Artificial light was supplied in the darkened environment, and shadow or masking effects were measured manually around the 12-m circle. Results: When the bulbs were placed at the operator's eye level, front visibility was good; no masking was found in the "A" vision sector, but larger masking widths were found in the "B" and "C" vision sectors. Since the masking width exceeded 700 mm, additional tests, such as movement of the light sources to both sides of the operator's eye level, were performed. Less than six masking effects were found in the semi-circle of vision to the front, and more than one masking was found in the "B" and "C" visual fields. The minimum distance between the centers of two masking effects exceeded 2500 mm when measured as a chord on the semi-circle of vision. A blind area diagram was created to define the exact nature of the blind spots and mirror visibility. Conclusions: Visibility evaluation is an effective way to enable proper and safe operation for agricultural tractor operators. Inclusion of this visibility evaluation test in the general testing process might aid tractor manufacturers.

It is possible to obtain an omnidirectional stereo image via a single camera by using a catadioptric approach with a convex mirror and concave lens. In order to measure three-dimensional distance using the imaging system, the optical parameters of the system are required. In this paper, a calibration procedure to extract the parameters of the imaging system is described. Based on the parameters, experiments are carried out to verify the performance of the three-dimensional distance measurement of a single camera omnidirectional stereo imaging system.

We have proposed a measurement system for measuring a whole shape of an object easily. The proposed system consists of a camera and a cylinder whose inside is coated by a mirror layer. A target object is placed inside the cylinder and an image is captured by the camera from right above. The captured image includes sets of points that are observed from multiple viewpoints: one is observed directly, and others are observed via the mirror. Therefore, the whole shape of the object can be measured using stereo vision in a single shot. This paper shows that a prototype of the proposed system was implemented and an actual object was measured using the prototype. A method based on a pattern matching which uses a value of SSD (Sum of Squared Difference), and a method based on DP (Dynamic Programming) are employed to identify a set of corresponding points in warped captured images.

In this study, an efficient machine vision based inspection system is developed for the in-line measurement of phosphor resin dispensing shapes on LED chip package. Since the phosphor resin (target material) has semitransparent characteristics, illuminated light beam is reflected from the bottom of the chip as well as from the surface. Since such phenomenon can deteriorate inspection reliability, a white LED and a 635nm laser slit beams are experimentally tested to decide suitable illumination optics. Also, specular and diffuse reflection methods are tested to decide suitable optical triangulation. As a result, it can be known that the combination of a white slit beam source and specular reflection method show the best inspection results. The Catmull-Rom spline interpolation is applied to the obtained data to form smoother surface. From the results, it can be conclude that the developed system can be sucessfully applied to the in-line inspection of LED chip packaging process.
