  • For the purpose of evaluation of microleakage of class V resin restoration, 64 extracted bovine teeth were filled with two kinds of light curing composite resins(Z-100, Clearfil) and polymerized with 40 seconds of visible light and with 10 seconds of argon laser. After 1000 thermocycling($5^{\circ}C/55^{\circ}C$), specimens were placed in 1 % methylen blue dye solution for 72 hours in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath. The specimens were sectioned at center of filling body and the degree of dye penetration was observed with a stereomicroscope. The following results were obtained, 1. Differences of the microleakage of resin restorations polymerized with 10 seconds of argon laser and 40 seconds of visible light were statistically insignificant. 2. There was more microleakage in Z-100 than clearfil and there was a statistical significancy (p<0.05).

  • The aim of the present study was to describe an safe and convenient method for the early detection of enamel caries using laser fluorescence. Fluorescence from natually carious lesion of human teeth illuminated by an argon laser(488nm) was observed and photographed using barrier filter. Intact enamel was found to fluorescence with a yellowish light. Whereas, incipient caries lesions in the enamel were dearly visible as dark areas in contrast to the fluorescence surroundings. For evaluation of accuracy of this method, lesion depth measured by the laser fluorescence in light microscope was compared with that polarizing microscope. The results from the present study can be summarized as follows : 1. Enamel caries of smooth surface was observed as pale white spot and undefined outline in ordinary light. Whereas, lesion was clearly visible as dark spot in laser fluorescence. 2. There was no difference between ordinary light view and laser fluorescence in occlusal surface and interproximal surface. 3. There was no significant difference between the lesion depth observed by laser fluorescence with light microscope and polarizing microscope. Apparent correlation exists between two groups.

  • The simple and convenient measurement of the dissociation constant of an indicator, thymol blue, was achieved by using a portable diode-laser/fiber-optic thermal lensing spectroscopy, which consisted of a visible diode laser, a photodiode, and an optical fiber. It gives comparable results to the cited value obtained from a conventional UV/VIS spectroscopy.

  • A miniaturized laser beam transmitter, in which a visible laser module at ${\lambda}$=650 nm is precisely stacked upon an infrared (IR) module at ${\lambda}$=905 nm, has been proposed and constructed to provide an IR collimated beam in conjunction with a collinear monitoring visible beam. In particular, the IR beam is selectively dispersed through a perforated sheet diffuser, so as to create a rapidly diverging close-range beam in addition to a highly defined long-range beam simultaneously. The complementary close-range beam plays a role in mitigating the blind region in the vicinity of the transmitter, which is inevitably missed by the main long-range beam, thereby uniformly extending the transmitter's effective trajectory that is sensed by a receiver. The proposed transmitter was designed through numerical simulations and then fabricated by incorporating a diffuser sheet, perforated with an aperture of 2 mm. For the manufactured transmitter, the IR long-range beam was observed to have divergences of ~2.3 and 1.6 mrad in the fast and slow axes, respectively, while the short-range beam yielded a divergence of ~24 mrad. The angular alignment between the long-range IR and visible beams was as accurate as ~0.5 mrad. According to an outdoor feasibility test involving a receiver, the combination of the IR long- and short-range beams was proven to achieve a nearly uniform trajectory over a distance ranging up to ~600 m, with an average detectable cross-section of ${\sim}60{\times}80cm^2$.

  • Light can be divided into ultraviolet rays, visible rays, and infrared rays depending on the wavelengths. Visible rays with specific wavelength are those predominantly used for would treatment. Especially low level laser irradiates into cells, effectively stimulating cellular tissues and activating cellular function. This study was intended to verify the effect of white LED irradiation therapy on wound recovery in animal tests by applying white LED irradiator, which was independently designed and developed to emit beams of similar wavelength to that of a laser. The designed LED Irradiator was used to find out how white LED light source affected the skin wound of SD-Rat(Sprague-Dawley Rat). We divided the participants into two groups; white LED irradiation group which was irradiated 1 hour a day for 9 consecutive days, and none irradiation group. The results showed that the study group had lower incidence of inflammation and faster recovery, compared with the control group.

  • In this paper, a high precision straightness measurement system has been developed at low cost using a visible laser and CMOS image sensor. CMOS image sensor detected optical image and the variation of straightness was calculated by image processing. We have observed that the error of the developed straightness measurement system was 0.9% when a distance of 3m between laser and image sensor. And it can be applied to 3D printer and any other areas.

  • After polymerizing composite resin with argon laser and visible light, four test, to be concretely, measurement of compressive strength using Instron testing machine, surface microhardness using Rockwell hardness tester, quantitative analysis of residual monomer using HPLC and analysis of degree of conversion using FTIR, were accomplished. Test groups were a sort of specimen with 3mm diameter, 4mm thickness for measuring compressive strength, two sort of specimen with 7mm diameter, 2mm and 3mm thickness for measuring surface microhardness, quantitative analysing of residual monomer after curing and measuring the degree of conversion, each were divided by six groups according to the condition of light exposure. In case of argon laser, in 1.0W and 0.5W output, the exposure time for specimen were 5 sec, 10 sec respectiyely. In case of visible light, the exposure time for specimen were 20 sec, 40 sec respectively. The test were accomplished and following results were obtained. 1. Compressive strength of composite resin was the highest in the group of 1 W output, exposing for 10 sec with argon laser, followed by the group of 0.5W, exposing for 10 sec with argon laser, the group of exposing for 40 sec with visible light. But there were statistically no significant difference between these three groups(p>0.05). 2. Surface microhardness of composite resin wasn't significantly affected by light curing conditions. 3. BIS-GMA within residual monomer was least detected in the group of exposing for 40 sec. TEGDMA was least detected in the group of 1 W output, exposing for 10 sec with argon laseboth 2mm and 3mm thickness specimen. 4. The degree of conversion of all groups in the 2mm thickness specimen were more than 50%, similar to each other but in the group of 1W, exposing 10 sec with argon laser the degree of conversion was highest in the 3mm thickness specimen. 5. Argon laser could make composite resin to has similar properties with 25% lesser exposure time than visible light.

  • A visible photochemistry of maleic to fumaric acid adsorbed on silver nanoparticle surfaces was investigated as probed by SERS using a simple flow method. Photoisomerization of maleic to fumaric acid was consecutively observed in the condition of various flow rates, which varied the exposure time of laser beam. The sequential SERS spectra of maleic acid indicated that the photochemical isomerization and desorption took place simultaneously on silver nanoparticle surfaces as a function of laser fluency and wavelength. For 530.9nm laser line excitation, the rate constant coefficients were obtained with a = 5.9 $sec^{-1}$ mW for isomerization and b = 13.9 $sec^{-1}$ mW for desorption, which $k_1\;=\;aI^n\;and\;k_2\;=\;bI^m$. Both reactions were one photon process (n = 1, m = 1) of a visible light and relatively fast process whose decay time was in the range of milli-second for 50 mW laser power. The rate of photochemical reaction increased on going toward the blue and photodesorption was a dominant process. A simple flow method used in this study was very useful to study a relatively fast photochemical reaction of molecules adsorbed on silver nanoparticle surfaces.

  • Grapehen, a single atomic layer of graphite, has been in the spotlight and researched in vaious fields, because its fine mechanical, electrical properties, flexibility and transparence. Synthesis methods for large-area graphene such as chemical vaper deposition (CVD) and mechanical, chemical exfoliation have been reported. In particular, chemical exfoliation method receive attention due to low cost process. Chemical exfoliation method require reduction of graphene oxide in the process of exfoliation such as chemical reduction by strong reductant, thermal reduction on high temperature, and optical reduction via ultraviolet light exposure. Among these reduction methods, optical reduction is free from damage by strong reductant and high temperature. However, optical reduction is economically infeasible because the high cost of short-wavelength ultraviolet light sorce. In this paper, we make graphene-oxide and lanthanoid ion mixture aqueous solution which has highly optical absorbency in selective wevelength region. Sequentially, we synthesize reduced graphene oxide (RGO) using the solution and visible laser beam. Concretely, graphene oxide is made by modified hummer's method and mix with 1 ml each ultraviolet ray absorbent Gd3+ ion, Green laser absorbent Tb3+ ion, Red laser absorbent Eu3+ ion. After that, we revivify graphene oxide by laser exposure of 300 ~ 800 nm layser 1mW/cm2 +. We demonstrate reproducibility and repeatability of RGO through FT-IR, UV-VIS, Low temperature PL, SEM, XPS and electrical measurement.

  • Thin films of YB $a_{2}$C $u_{3}$$O_{7-x}$ supercondYB $a_{2}$C $u_{3}$$O_{7-x}$uctor were prepared on (100) SrTi $O_{3}$ substrates by pulsed laser deposition using visible light laser. Q-switched Nd:YAG(532 nm, 30 ns) pulsed laser was used for deposition. The effects of substrate temperature and oxygen pressure during deposition on films were studied. Critical current density of 2.93*10$^{6}$ A/c $m^{2}$ at 77K and Tc(zero)=91.7K were obtained from the film prepared with Tsub=745.deg. C and $P_{02}$=200 mTorr. XRD analysis showed that the grown film has c-axis normal orientation to the substrate surface and has single phase. Surface morphology of the film has been improved by interfering the plume ejected from YB $a_{2}$C $u_{3}$$O_{7-x}$ target.arget.t.
