  • In this study, we analyzed an outdoor visible light communication system and implemented it through a simulation. We designed a Reed-Solomon encoder, a variable interleaver structure, and set it to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.15.7 PHY I specification mode. We also analyzed the performance of an additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) channel environment using a root-raised-cosine (RRC) filter, implemented a MATLAB simulation and analyzed its performance. The results showed a requirement for an additional signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of approximately 1.5 dB in a 3-ray multipath visible light channel environment than in an AWGN environment.

  • This paper is implemented simple visible light communication system by combining the communications through LED lighting. It uses a variable PD sensor to the receiver and 1~12 the LED light-emitting device to the transmitter to realize LED visible light communication. Initial distance value of the developed transmission and receiver is more than 0~1.5m for LED visible light communication, the overall system transmission rate is organized with thousands kbps variability visible light media transmission system. It was measured the performance experiment during lens wearing or not wearing in order to increase the overall efficiency of the LED module, configures the LED and PD to existing PC module for the performance analysis of the implemented research, experiments the maximum communication distance of the transmitter/receiver according to LED count and the transmission rate, check about application methods and the possibility.

  • In this paper, we propose a new modulation scheme called multi-coded variable pulse position modulation (MC-VPPM) for visible light communication systems. Two groups of signals (Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) groups) are multi-coded by orthogonal codes for transmitting data simultaneously. Then, each multi-level value of the multi-coded signal is converted to pulse width and position which results in not only an improved data rate, but also a processing gain in reception. In addition, we introduce average duty ratio and cyclic shift concepts in PWM through which dimming control for light illumination can be supported without any degradation in communication performance. Through simulation, we confirm that the proposed MC-VPPM shows a comparable BER curve and much greater achievable data rate than the conventional VPPM scheme using a visible light optical channel environment.

  • Visible light communication (VLC) is a rapidly growing area of research and applications, due to the potential and predicted high efficiency of bandwidth. One of the key challenges in VLC technology is the choice of devices which are going to be deployed VLC features. Smartphone rationally uses the most widely deployed visible light sensor i.e. image sensor in camera, which could be used to receive the intensity modulated data. Image sensor based VLC system would be the most deployable scenario but initially the capacity was not much attractive compared with photodetector based VLC system. Here, the spatial multiplexing is proposed in MIMO based VLC system to increase the system capacity by utilizing the property of spatial separation of optical light sources in smartphone's camera module. The active pixels of imaging plane act as the multiple receivers which could be able to use on MIMO spatial multiplexing to enhance the system performance.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new synchronous visible light communication system in which the synchronizing pulse and the data bits are simultaneously transmitted using a 3-level light signal. In the transmitter, the synchronizing pulse and the data bits modulate independently two identical visible LEDs, whose output lights add in free space, make 3-level optical signal. In the receiver, a photodiode detects the light and generates a 3-level output voltage, whose positive and negative part correspond to the synchronizing pulse and the data bits, respectively. The two signals are easily separated and recovered by a simple diode circuit. This configuration provides two independent VLC channels without any multiplexing technique, simplifies the circuit design and construction of synchronous VLC systems.

  • Visible light communication (VLC) is considered a strong future candidate for indoor wireless communication. However, its performance seems to be relatively unsatisfactory when compared to wireless local area network (WLAN) communication using millimeter waves. To improve the performance of VLC, numerous technologies have been proposed so far, in both electrical and optical domains. Among the proposals, optical beamforming (OB) is an optical-domain technology that can concentrate light in a specific direction or on a target spot. It can significantly improve VLC performance and can be widely used, because it does not depend on electrical modulation schemes. Therefore, this review discusses the concept, principle, and types of OB, the structure of a VLC system using OB, performance results of OB, and the combination of OB with electrical signal modulation in VLC. OB is expected to be one of the key techniques in future VLC implementations, similar to radio-frequency beamforming in millimeter-wave communication.

  • We report design and simulation of a two-dimensional (2D) silicon-based nanophotonic crystal as an optical insulator to enhance the light emission efficiency of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The device was designed in a manner that a triangular array silicon photonic crystal light insulator has a square trench in the middle where LED can be placed. By varying the normalized radius in the range of 0.3-0.5 using plane wave expansion method (PWEM), we found that the normalized radius of 0.45 creates a large band gap for transverse electric (TE) polarization. Subsequently a series of light propagation simulation were carried out using 2D and three-dimensional (3D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD). The designed silicon-based light insulator device shows optical characteristics of a region in which light propagation was forbidden in the horizontal plane for TE light with most of the visible light spectrum in the wavelength range of 450 nm to 600 nm.

  • There are various 'wireless communication technologies' around us. Wireless mobile communication has evolved through various stages, and its utilization is also diverse. However, due to the development of wireless communication technology, the demand for frequency resources is much higher than the supply, so frequency shortage is serious. Recently, 'visible light communication' has been attracting attention as an emerging communication technology that can solve the frequency shortage. 'Visible light communication' is a communication method based on serial data transmission / reception, and there is a difficulty in transmitting / receiving parallel data because the transmitter and the receiver are arbitrarily present. In this paper, we have studied parallel data processing of visible light communication. We could solve the problem by analyzing parallel data using image processing. Through this study, communication performance can be verified through I / O data comparison by implementing parallel data analysis method. It is expected that diversity in parallel data analysis will be presented through the results.
