This study presents comparation of fixed and viscos boundary condition effects on three-dimensional earthquake response and performance of a RCC dam considering linear and non-linear response. For this purpose, Cine RCC dam constructed in Aydın, Turkey, is selected in applications. The Drucker-Prager material model is considered for concrete and foundation rock in the nonlinear time-history analyses. Besides, hydrodynamic effect was considered in linear and non-linear dynamic analyses for both conditions. The hydrodynamic pressure of the reservoir water is modeled with the fluid finite elements based on the Lagrangian approach. The contact-target element pairs were used to model the dam-foundation-reservoir interaction system. The interface between dam and foundation is modeled with welded contact for both fixed and viscos boundary conditions. The displacements and principle stress components obtained from the linear and non-linear analyses are compared each other for empty and full reservoir cases. Seismic performance analyses considering demand-capacity ratio criteria were also performed for each case. According to numerical analyses, the total displacements and besides seismic performance of the dam increase by the effect of the viscous boundary conditions. Besides, hydrodynamic pressure obviously decreases the performance of the dam.

A zero-shrinkage sintering process in which the shrinkage of x-y axis is controlled to be zero is in great demand due to the trend of high integration in the ceramic modules. Among the zero-shrinkage sintering processes that are available, the proposed glass infiltration method where the viscous but fluidic glass infiltrates of the $Al_2O_3$ particles in the structure of $Al_2O_3$/glass/$Al_2O_3$ during firing is one of the applicable methods. However, the above proposed glass infiltration method has the problem of the warpage-like delamination. This occurred at the outermost surface of the multiple-bundle substrate. It is thought that the decomposed gas rapidly expands in low viscous glass to create vacant space. To solve this problem, the vacant space was tamped with $Al_2O_3$ particles to lead to the actual improvement of the sintered properties. With 15 wt% of tamping $Al_2O_3$ particles in glass, most of the vacant space disappeared. Fully densified zero-shrinkage substrate without delamination can be obtained.

This paper analyzes the non-stationary vibration and super-harmonic resonances in nonlinear dynamic motion of viscoelastic nano-resonators. For this purpose, a new coupled size-dependent model is developed for a plate-shape nano-resonator made of nonlinear viscoelastic material based on modified coupled stress theory. The virtual work induced by viscous forces obtained in the framework of the Leaderman integral for the size-independent and size-dependent stress tensors. With incorporating the size-dependent potential energy, kinetic energy, and an external excitation force work based on Hamilton's principle, the viscous work equation is balanced. The resulting size-dependent viscoelastically coupled equations are solved using the expansion theory, Galerkin method and the fourth-order Runge-Kutta technique. The Hilbert-Huang transform is performed to examine the effects of the viscoelastic parameter and initial excitation values on the nanosystem free vibration. Furthermore, the secondary resonance due to the super-harmonic motions are examined in the form of frequency response, force response, Poincare map, phase portrait and fast Fourier transforms. The results show that the vibration of viscoelastic nanosystem is non-stationary at higher excitation values unlike the elastic ones. In addition, ignoring the small-size effects shifts the secondary resonance, significantly.

During sintering of very porous green bodies, as obtained by compaction of hard powders - such as tungsten carbide or ceramics - or by injection moulding, important shrinkage occurs. Due to heterogeneous green density field, gravity effects, friction on the support, thermal gradients, etc., this shrinkage is often non-uniform, which' may induce significant shape changes. As the ratio of compact dimension to powder size is very high, the mechanics of continuum is relevant to model such phenomena. Thus numerical techniques, such as the finite element method can be used to simulate the sintering process and predict the final shape of the sintered part. Such type of simulation has much been developed in the last decade firstly for hot isostatic pressing and next for die compaction. Finite element modelling has been recently applied to free sintering. The simulation of sintering should be based on constitutive equations describing the thermo-mechanical behaviour of the material under any state of stress and any temperature which may arise within the sintering body. These equations can be drawn either from experimental data or from micromechanical models. The experiments usually consist in free sintering and sinter-forging tests. Indeed applying more complex loading conditions at high temperature under controlled atmosphere is delicate. Micromechanical models describe the constitutive behaviour of aggregates of spheres from the deformation of two-sphere contact either by viscous flow or grain boundary diffusion. Such models are not able to describe complex microstructure and mechanisms as observed in real materials but they can give some basic information on the formulation of constitutive equations. Practically both experimental and theoretical approaches can be coupled to identify the constitutive equations. Such procedure has been performed for modelling the sintering of compacts obtained by die pressing of a mixture of tungsten carbide and cobalt powders. The constitutive behaviour of this material during sintering has been described by a linear viscous constitutive model, whose functions have been fitted from results of free sintering and sinter-forging experiments. This model has next been introduced in ABAQUS finite element code to simulate the sintering of heterogeneous green compacts of various geometries at constant temperature. Examples of simulations are shown and compared with experiments.

Calculation was carried out for phase velocity and deformation wave decay in a layer of viscoelastic material fixed tightly on the solid substrate. Analysis has been performed regarding the inner structure of the wave, i.e., the proportions between the vertical and horizontal displacements and their profiles. The wave characteristics depend strongly on media compressibility factor. The effect of viscous losses on parameters of the main oscillation mode was studied in detail. Results were compared with the model of coating with local deformation. A new experimental approach was made in order to measure such wave properties of a compliant coating as the dependency of deformation wave velocity on frequency and decay factor was made. The method for estimation of coating parameters enabling the drag reduction in turbulent flow was then refined.

An equivalent circuit for the superconductor flux flow transistor(SFFT) was combined with high temperature cooling device, based on the analogy between thermal and electrical variables using the high-temperature superconductor(HTS), is proposed. The device is composed of parallel weak links with a nearby magnetic control line. A model has been developed that is based on solving the equation of motion of Abrikosov vortices subject to Lorentz viscous and pinning forces as well as magnetic surface barriers. The use of thermal models the global performance of thermal cooling circuit and signal system to be checked by using electrical circuit analysis programs such as SPICE.

Eddy currents are induced when a nonmagnetic conductive material is moving subjected to the magnetic field due to a permanent magnet. These currents circulates in the conductive material and are dissipated, causing a repulsive force between the magnet and the conductor. Using this concept, the eddy current damping can be used as a viscous damping. The present study investigates the characteristics of a magnetic damping analytically and experimentally. The theoretical model of a eddy current damping is developed from electromagnetics and is verified from experiments. The drop test of a magnet in the cooper tube shows that the present model can accurately predict the damping force. Additionally, the dynamic test of a eddy current damping is carried to verify the present model.

Eddy current are induced when a nonmagnetic, conductive material is moving as the result of being subjected to the magnetic field, or if it is placed in a time-varying magnetic field. These currents circulate in the conductive material and are dissipated, causing a repulsive force between the magnet and conductor. Using this concept, eddy current damping can be used as a form of viscous damping. This paper investigated analytically and experimentally the characteristics of an eddy current damping when a permanent magnet is placed in a conductive tube. The theoretical model of the eddy current damping is developed from electromagnetics and is verified from Maxwell program and experiments. From these comparisons, although predictability is not accurate at high excitation frequencies, the present model can be used to predict damping force at low excitation frequencies. In order to improve the prediction of the characteristics of an eddy current damping, the induced magnetic flux densities have to be considered in following researches.
The static and dynamic rheological behavior of concentrated sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) stabilized, deformability controllable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) emulsions is reported and comparisons made with silica (hard sphere) suspensions. Steady-mode measurements indicate 'hard' (viscoelastic) droplets behave as hard spheres, while 'soft' (viscous) droplets induce structural flexibility of the emulsion against shear. Dynamic-mode measurements reveal that viscoelasticity of droplets provides the great magnitude of elasticity for the 'hard' emulsion, while formation of planar films between droplets is the origin of the elasticity of 'soft' emulsions. Combination of steady and dynamic rheological behavior has enabled depiction of droplet structure evolution in relation to the shear stress applied, especially by taking advantage of the normal force that reflects the transient deformation of droplets.

Finite element analysis tool was developed to analyze the casting process. Generally, casting processes consists of mold filling and solifification. In order to investigate the effects of process variables and to predict the defects, both filling and solidiffication process were simulated simultaneously. At filling process, especiallywe consider thermal coupling to investigate thermal history of material during the filling stage. And thermal condition at the final stage of filling is used as the initial conditions in a solidification process for the exact simulation of the actual casting processes. At mold filling process, Lagrangian-type finite element method with automatic remashing scheme was used to find the material flow. To avoid numerical instability in low viscous fluid, a perturbation method with artificial viscosity is adopted. At solififfication process, enthalpy-based finite element method was used to solve the heat transfer problem with phase change. And elastic stress analysis has been performed to predict the thermal residual stress. Through the FE analysis, solidiffication time, position of solidus line, liquidus line and thermal residual stress are studied. Finite element tools developed in this study will be used process design of casting process and maybe basic structure for total CAE system of castigs which will be constructed afterward.
