  • General D-glass(Dielectric glass) fibers are adaptable to PCBs(Printed circuit boards) because they have a low dielectric constant of about 3.5~4.5. However, very few papers have appeared on the physical characteristics of D-glass fibers. D-glass fibers were fabricated via continuous spinning process using bulk D-glass. In order to fabricate the D-glass, raw materials were put into a Pt crucible, melted at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, and then annealed at $521{\pm}10^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. We obtained transparent clear glass. The transmittance and adaptable temperature for spinning of the bulk marble glass were characterized using a UV-visible spectrometer and a viscometer. Continuous spinning was carried out using direct melting spinning equipment as a function of the fiberizing temperature in the range of $1368^{\circ}C$ to $1460^{\circ}C$, while the winder speed was between 100 rpm and 200 rpm. We investigated the physical properties of the D-glass fibers. The average diameters of the glass fibers were measured by optical microscope and FE-SEM. The average diameters of the D-glass fibers were 21.36 um at 100 rpm and 34.06 um at 200 rpm. The mechanical properties of the fibers were confirmed using a UTM(Universal materials testing machine). The average tensile strengths of the D-glass fibers were 467.03 MPa at 100 rpm and 522.60 MPa at 200 rpm.

  • Non-viral gene carriers continue to attract a great deal of interest due to advantageous safety profile. Among the non-viral gene carriers, cationic liposomes or synthetic gene carriers are efficient DNA carriers in vitro. but their in vivo applications are greatly hampered because of low biocompatibility. On the other hand, chitosan, a natural cationic polysaccharide, is a candidate non-viral vector for gene delivery because of its low cytotoxicity and high positive charges. In this work, targeted gene carrier was synthesized to target artery wall cells using low molecular water-soluble chitosan (LMWSC). The molecular weight $(M_W)$ and degree of de acetylation (DDA) of LMWSC were measured by relative viscometer and Kina titration. respectively. The structure of LMWSC was analyzed by measuring FTIR, $^1H-NMR,\;and\;^{13}C-NMR$. AWBP-PEG-g-LMWSC was synthesized by conjugation of the artery wall binding peptide (AWBP), a specific targeting peptide, to the end of pegylated LMWSC as a gene carrier to target artery wall cells. The synthesized AWBP-PEG-g-LMWSC were analyzed by measuring FTIR, $^1H-NMR$, zeta -potentiometer, and atomic force microscopy (AFM).

  • South Korea's OF cable is reaching its expected design life of 30 years, and as a result, the risk of failure is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to diagnose the long-term operating OF cables through accurate diagnosis at the right time to prevent the failure. Currently, the KEPCO periodically conducts DGA. However, the gas found in DGA is caused by oil deterioration as well as insulation paper. Therefore, the analysis of the degree of polymerization and furan compounds which is an evaluation of insulation paper considered to be the life of OF cables is required. In addition, the results of the evaluation of deterioration of insulation paper need to be checked for correlation with the results of DGA. In this study, DGA carried out through GC, the degree of polymerization was analyzed using an automatic viscometer, and HPLC was used to detect the furan compounds. In addition, the obtained results were applied to the SVM technique, which was recently introduced to determine abnormalities in OF cable. And the results which were accurate and reliable were obtained.

  • We have proposed a new method for estimating the viscosity of the composite. In this paper, we have developed a device for measuring the injection mold cavity pressure. This makes it possible to verify the accuracy of the viscosity in CAE D/B in real time by measuring the melt pressure in the mold, and comparing this with the simulated pressure from the CAE analysis. Materials used in this study is a PP(Polypropylene), PP/LGF30%(Polypropylene/long glass fiber 50% composite) and PA66/LGF50%(Polyamide 6,6/long glass fiber 50% composite). The viscosity data for PP and PP long fiber composite have already been built, but the one for PA66 long-fiber composite does not exist because it is a newly developed material. Thus we obtained the viscosity curve of PA66/LGF50% by this system. Then, the viscosity curves from conventional viscometer were also compared with the viscosity obtained by the our method. And, we proved the accuracy of the CAE data of PP. In case of PP/LGF50% which is highly viscous and complex material, we improved the existing CAE data.because there was a difference between the measuring data and the CAE data.

  • Safrolechitosan (SaCs) and eugenolchitosan (EuCs) were synthesized and characterized to increase water solubility and functionality of chitosan. Product impurities were removed by Soxhlet apparatus using methanol to obtain final product with high purity. Using Ubbelohde viscometer, molecular weights of chitosan, EuCs, and SaCs were determined as $1.2{\times}10^{5}\;Da,\;7.8{\times}10^{5},\;and\;7.5{\times}10^{5}\;Da,\;respectively$. IR spectrum of SaCs revealed chemical shift of amide II band ($1,553cm^{-1}$) of chitosan grafted by safrole caused by generation of covalent bond between primary amino of chitosan and double bond of safrole. Due to graft reaction of safrole onto chitosan, vinyl bands ($1,611\;and\;1,442cm^{-1}$) of safrole disappeared. In graft reaction of eugenol onto chitosan, shift of amide II band ($1,553cm^{-1}$) and disappearance of vinyl band were observed. On $^{1}H-NMR$ spectrum of EuCs, $H_{2}C=CH-$ peak in eugenol (monomer) disappeared, whereas $-H_{2}C-CH_{2}-$ peak appeared. Above results indicate safrole and eugenol were successfully grafted onto chitosan.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out characteristics of the fillers made by epoxy resin (L-30) and filling epoxy resin (L-50) with talc, quartz sand and wollastonite with different mixture ratio of 5%, 50%, 80%, 120%, and 150%. The viscometer and colorimeter were used to measure the viscosity and chromaticity of the fillers. Additionally, IC and SEM were used to reveal characteristics of the filler, and checked ultrasonic wave velocity, compressive strength and contact angle to estimate the stability between the filler and stones which are essential for conservation treatments. The filler mixed with the talc had the lowest value in the ultrasonic wave velocity analysis, and its compressive strength decreased as the mixing rate of talc increased. On the other hand, wollastonite had higher values than others in the ultrasonic wave velocity and the compressive strength regardless of epoxy resin type, also, these values increased as mixing rate increased. The properties of the filler, which include the granularity and shape, have influence on characteristics of the stone conservation adhesives. Thus, the filler type, characteristic, and mixture ratio must be considered for effective conservation treatment.

  • Even though high performance concrete was developed according to the trend of bigger and higher of reinforced concrete building, the rheological evaluations such as viscosity, yield stress are not enough to use as input data to accomplish the numerical analysis for the construction design. So there are many problems in the harden concrete such as poor compaction, rock pocket and crack, etc. in the field. In this study, consistency curves were measured by the viscometer as hydration reaction time passed. At the same time the slump flow test and Vicat setting test were carried out for comparing with the results of rheological properties. The fluidity of the W/B 30% decreased as the increase of replacement ratio of blast furnace slag. But in case of W/B 40%, the replacement ration did not significantly influenced to the slump flow value with the passage of hydration time. By the replacement of blast furnace slag to cement, initial setting was delayed and the time gap between initial and final setting became shorten. Through the regression analysis using Bingham model, there are a sudden changes of viscosity and yield stress around initial setting in case of low W/B 30%. The increase of workability by the change of free water in cement paste was offset by the coating effect of impermeable layer in case of W/B 40%.

  • This experiment was carried out to predict the sensory properties of yogurt by instrumental methodology. Sensory attributes such as viscosity, mouth-feel, taste and quality were investigated. Instrumental parameters were measured with refractometer, viscometer, consistometer and rheometer. Sensory data showed that viscosity of peach yogurt was higher than that of strawberry and tropical-fruit-mixed (TFM) yogurts (p<.05). All instrumental parameters of peach yogurt were higher than those of strawberry and TFM yogurts, except cohesiveness and elasticity (p<.05). Viscosity measured by panelists was significantly correlated with instrumental viscosity, consistency, hardness, adhesiveness and gumminess in the fruit yogurts (p<.05). But mouth-feel and quality of yogurts showed poor relationships with instrumental parameters. The effective instrumental parameters for predicting sensory viscosity ($Y_{1}$) of yogurts were consistency ($X_{1}$), viscosity ($X_{2}$) and cohesiveness ($X_{3}$). And those for predicting mouth-feel ($Y_{2}$) were consistency. The estimated regression equations were as follows; $Y_{1}=4.968-0.0486X_{1}+0.00012X_{2}+0.0348X_{3},\;Y_{2}=5.701+0.0154X_{1}$.

  • Rheological properties of rehydrated suspensions of two kinds of freeze dried Kochujang powders, processed at different freezing rates, were compared with raw Kochujang using Brookfield wide-gap rotational viscometer at $25^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$. Shear rates ranged from $0.1965\;sec^{-1}$ to $1.9650\;sec^{-1}$ and solid content ranged from 47% to 56%. Rehydrated suspensions of quickly frozen Kochujang powder and slowly frozen Kochujang powder, and raw Kochujang exhibited pseudoplastic behaviors with yield stress and presented thixotropic properties which followed the second-order kinetic behavior proposed by Tiu. Suspensions of Kochujang powders exhibited considerably higher decaying rates than raw Kochujang. The dependency of the equilibrium structure parameter on the shear rate was weak, and there were no significant differences among the values of structure parameters of three samples. The temperature dependency of the apparent viscosity of Kochujang suspension was fully expressed by Arrhenius equation and activation energies of suspensions of quickly frozen Kochujang powder and slowly frozen Kochujang powder, and raw Kochujang were 2.21, 2.18, and 2.32 Kcal/g.mole respectively. Consistency indices of three samples increased with solid content and decreased with temperature. Flow behavior indices of three samples showed no considerable dependency on the temperature and solid content. There were no significant differences in the rheological properties between two Kochujang powders.
