Analysis of Hygrothermal Stresses in a Viscoelastic Thin Film

  • This paper deals with the stress singularity induced at the interface corner between the viscoelastic thin film and the rigid substrate subjected to the combined influence of temperature change and moisture absorption. A boundary element analysis is employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. The film is assumed to be thermorheologically simple. It is further assumed that moisture effects are analogous to thermal effects. Numerical results are presented for a given viscoelastic model, indicating the singular residual stresses induced during cooling down from the curing temperature, and how they can be altered by subsequent moisture absorption at room temperature.

  • 탄성 반도체 칩과 점탄성 접착제층의 계면에 존재하는 모서리 균열에 대한 응력확대계수를 조사하였다. 이러한 균열들은 자유 경계면 부근에 존재하는 응력 특이성으로 인해 발생할 수 있다. 계면 응력상태를 해석하기 위해서 시간 영역 경계요소법이 사용되었다. 작은 크기의 모서리 균열에 대한 응력확대계수가 계산되었다. 점탄성 이완으로 인해 응력확대계수의 크기는 시간이 경과함에 따라 작아진다.

  • We present finite element equations in the Laplace-domain for linear viscoelastic and viscoelstically damped structures governed by a constitutive equation involving factional order derivative opeartors. These equations yield a nonstandard eigenproblem consisted of frequency dependent stiffness matrix. To solve this nonstandard eigenproblem we suggest an eigenvalue iteration procedure in the Laplace-domain. Improved Zenor and GHM material function type constitutive equations in the Laplace-domain are also available for this procedure. From above equations, complex eigenvalues and complex eigenvectors are obtained. Using obtained eigenvalues and eigenvectors, time domain analysis is performed by means of mode superposition. Finally, finite element solutions of viscoelastic and viscoeleastically damped sandwich beam are presented as an example.

Delamination analysis of inhomogeneous viscoelastic beam of rectangular section subjected to torsion

  • This paper considers a delamination analysis of a statically undetermined inhomogeneous beam structure of rectangular section with viscoelastic behavior under torsion. The beam is built in at its two ends. The beam has two longitudinal inhomogeneous layers with a delamination crack between them. A notch is made in the upper crack arm. The external torsion moment applied on the beam is a function of time. Under these conditions, the beam has one degree of indeterminacy. In order to derive the strain energy release rate, first, the static indeterminacy is resolved. Then the strain energy release rate is obtained by analyzing the balance of the energy with considering the viscoelastic behavior. The strain energy release rate is found also by analyzing the compliance of the beam for checkup. Solution of the strain energy release rate in a beam without a notch in the upper crack arm is derived too. In this case, the beam has two degrees of static indeterminacy (the torsion moment in the upper crack arm is treated as an additional internal redundant unknown). A parametric investigation of the strain energy release rate is carried-out.

Nonlinear free vibration analysis of moderately thick viscoelastic plates with various geometrical properties

  • In this paper, geometrically nonlinear free vibration analysis of Mindlin viscoelastic plates with various geometrical and material properties is studied based on the Von-Karman assumptions. A novel solution is proposed in which the nonlinear frequencies of time-dependent plates are predicted according to the nonlinear frequencies of plates not dependent on time. This method greatly reduces the cost of calculations. The viscoelastic properties obey the Boltzmann integral law with constant bulk modulus. The SHPC meshfree method is employed for spatial discretization. The Laplace transformation is used to convert equations from the time domain to the Laplace domain and vice versa. Solving the nonlinear complex eigenvalue problem in the Laplace-Carson domain numerically, the nonlinear frequencies, the nonlinear viscous damping frequencies, and the nonlinear damping ratios are verified and calculated for rectangular, skew, trapezoidal and circular plates with different boundary conditions and different material properties.

  • 전단 층을 갖는 2개 매개변수 탄성지반 위에 놓인 복합재료 적층판에서 휨 진동 및 좌굴해석을 위해 에너지 방법을 사용해 탄성해를 구하였다. 복합재료 적층판의 점탄성 해석은 유사-탄성방법을 사용해 탄성해를 구하였다. 전단에 의한 효과는 3창 전단변형이론을 적용하여 고려하였다. 유도된 식들을 검증하기 위해 LUSAS 프로그램에 의한 탄성지반위에 놓인 이방성 판의 처짐과 비교하였다. 점탄성 휨 진동 및 좌굴해석에 관한 수치해석결과들은 적층순서, 적층 수 재료 비등방성과 전단지반계수 등에 따른 효과를 보여 준다.

Viscoelastic Analysis of Osmotic Blistering Behavior of Coating Film

  • The osmotic blistering behavior of polymeric coating film which is in contact with an aqueous environment has been investigated. In this study, the coating film has been assumed to be linearly viscoelastic. Interfacial stresses induced in a laminate model consisting of the viscoelastic film and the elastic substrate as the film absorbs moisture from the ambient environment have been investigated using the time-domain boundary element method. The overall stress intensity factor for interfacial cracks subjected to a uniform osmotic pressure has been computed using the tractions at the crack tip node. The magnitude of stress intensity factors decreases with time due to viscoelastic relaxation, but remains constant at large times.

  • 이 논문은 고분자 박막이 주변으로부터 수분을 흡수하게 될 때, 탄성 기판과 점탄성 박막의 계면 모서리에서 발생하는 응력 특이성을 다루고 있다. 계면에서 발생하는 응력을 조사하기 위해서 경계 요소법이 사용되고 있다. 주어진 점탄성 모델에 대해서 특이 차수가 수치적으로 계산된다. 이 논문에서 고려하고 있는 점탄성 모델에 대해서, 응력특이계수는 시간이 경과함에 따라 이완되고 있으나 특이 차수는 증가되고 있음을 보여준다.

Study on fatigue life and mechanical properties of BRBs with viscoelastic filler

  • In this paper, two kinds of buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are designed to improve the mechanical properties and fatigue life, the reserved gap and viscoelastic filler with high energy dissipation capacity are employed as the sliding element, respectively. The fatigue life of BRBs considering the effect of sliding element is predicted based on Manson-Coffin model. The property tests under different displacement amplitudes are carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties and fatigue life of BRBs. At last, the finite element analysis is performed to study the effects of the gap and viscoelastic filler on mechanical properties BRBs. Experimental and simulation results indicate that BRB employed with viscoelastic filler has a higher fatigue life and more stable mechanical property compared to BRB employed with gap, and the smaller reserved gap can more effectively improve the energy dissipation capacity of BRB.

  • The flexural vibration of a sandwich beam with partially inserted viscoelastic layer has been studied using the finite element analysis in combination with an experiment. Effects of length and thickness of partial viscoelastic layers on system loss factor(${\eta}_s$) and resonant frequency(${\omega}_r$) were considerably large. The thicker the viscoelastic layer in a sandwich beam, the larger the system loss factor in Mode 1 as compared with that in Mode 2. The loss factor increased almost linearly with increasing the length of partial viscoelastic layer. Effects of thickness of beams were also considered.
