In order that the steel girder and the concrete slab act as a composite structure, the connectors must have adequate strength and stiffness. If there are no horizontal or vertical separations at the interface, the connectors are described as rigid, and complete interaction can be said to exist under these idealized circumstances. However, all connectors are flexible to some extent, and therefore incomplete interaction always exists. This paper presents a practical structural analysis of composite girders with incomplete interaction by three methods. One is the stiffness matrix method derived from the general solutions of differential equation, another is the finite element analysis that alternate method of solution treats the structure as a frame and defines the spring as an additional member, and the other is the finite element analysis using principle of virtual work. The deflection characteristic of composite girder is investigated using these three methods. Also, this paper propose a simplified procedure of estimating a degree of imperfection for a composite girder with incomplete interaction using the sectional properties of girder and spring constants of shear connectors.
In this study, simplified analysis (discrete analysis of column and pile) of pile bent structures was performed on the basis of the equivalent base spring model. And the minimum reinforcement ratio in pile bent structures was evaluated by taking into account various factors. To obtain the detailed information, simplified analysis was performed for column-pile interactions and the behavior of a column-pile was estimated and highlighted. Based on this study, it is shown that previous design method based on virtual fixed point theory cannot adequately predict the physical behavior of pile bent structures. It is found that the maximum bending moment is located within craking moment of the pile when material non-linearity is considered. It is also found that the minimum reinforcement ratio (=0.4%) is appropriately applicable for the optimal design of pile bent structure under ultimate lateral loading.

This paper describes a cloth simulation system for dressing 3D virtual human model with different pieces of clothing. The garments are constructed of cutting patterns seamed together. The system reads a body file and a cutting pattern file and produces a new model dressed with the specified garment by using a physical simulation based on a mass-spring model. For the realistic cloth simulation, it performs collision detection and response between triangles of the 3D human model and the garment. Because the number of triangles of a human model is very large. the collision detection and response requires a lot of time. To overcome this problem, we propose a pruning method which decreases the number of collision detection and response by a space-subdivision method. Experimental results show that the system produces realistic images and makes it possible to sew a garment around a virtual human body in several seconds.
Thin-walled mental tubes under lateral crushing are desirable and reliable energy absorbers against impact or blast loads. However, the early formations of plastic hinges in the thin cylindrical wall limit the energy absorption performance. This study investigates the energy absorption performance of a simple, light and efficient energy absorber called the ring stiffened tube. Due to the increase of section modulus of tube wall and the restraining effect of the T-stiffener flange, key energy absorption parameters (peak crushing force, energy absorption and specific energy absorption) have been significantly improved against the empty tube. Its potential application in the offshore blast wall design has also been investigated. It is proposed to replace the blast wall endplates at the supports with the energy absorption devices that are made up of the ring stiffened tubes and springs. An analytical model based on beam vibration theory and virtual work theory, in which the boundary conditions at each support are simplified as a translational spring and a rotational spring, has been developed to evaluate the blast mitigation effect of the proposed design scheme. Finite element method has been applied to validate the analytical model. Comparisons of key design criterions such as panel deflection and energy absorption against the traditional design demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design in blast alleviation.

This paper shows an experimental magnetic levitation table using one degree-of-freedom active control. The magnetic levitation table using repulsions of permanent magnets was theoretically presented already. Thus the objective of this paper is to prove stable levitation with only one degree-of-freedom active control experimentally. For the design of the system, at first, permanent magnets are selected. Secondly, the spring constants of the virtual spring are obtained by simulation. Thirdly, the moving magnets are arranged using a stable layout relation. Fourthly, a linear voice coil motor is designed. Finally, the magnetic levitation system is manufactured. The phenomenon of stable levitation in the manufactured table is proven by means of dynamic time and frequency responses. The differences between the theoretical natural frequencies and experimental ones are analyzed. Also, stable range in the control direction is shown experimentally.

An efficient model for the dynamic analysis of caisson breakwaters under impulsive wave loadings is presented. The caisson structure is. regarded as a rigid body, and the rubble mound foundation is idealized as virtual added masses, springs, and dampers using the elastic half-space theory. The frequency-dependent hydrodynamic added mass and damping coefficients are considered by using the time memory functions and added mass at infinite frequency. To simulate the permanent sliding phenomenon of the caisson, the horizontal spring is modeled as a nonlinear spring with plastic behaviors. Comparisons with experimental results show that the present model gives fairly good results. Sensitivity analysis is performed for the relevant parameters affecting the dynamic responses of a caisson breakwater. Numerical experiments are also carried out to investigate the applicability to the prediction of permanent sliding distance and critical weight of the caisson.
DDARF (Discontinuous Deformation Analysis for Rock Failure) is a numerical algorithm for simulating jointed rock masses' discontinuous deformation. While its reinforcement simulation is only limited to end-anchorage bolt, which is assumed to be a linear spring simply. Here, several new reinforcement modes in DDARF are proposed, including lining reinforcement, full-length anchorage bolt and equivalent reinforcement. In the numerical simulation, lining part is assigned higher mechanical strength than surrounding rock masses, it may include multiple virtual joints or not, depending on projects. There must be no embedding or stretching between lining blocks and surrounding blocks. To realize simulation of the full-length anchorage bolt, at every discontinuity passed through the bolt, a set of normal and tangential spring needs to be added along the bolt's axial and tangential direction. Thus, bolt's axial force, shearing force and full-length anchorage effect are all realized synchronously. And, failure criterions of anchorage effect are established for different failure modes. In the meantime, from the perspective of improving surrounding rock masses' overall strength, a new equivalent and tentative simulation method is proposed, it can save calculation storage and improve efficiency. Along the text, simulation algorithms and applications of these new reinforcement modes in DDARF are given.

When it comes to discussing the natural behaviors of human life, defining the word "community" itself can be extremely crucial. The word "Community" can be defined as a group of interacting human beings sharing an environment. It is also the basic form for "dwelling" which can be explained as a quint essential factor in human life. Compared to the previous traditional society with strong bonding and close chemistry between neighbors, modern society with simple and monolithic apartments brought a literal extinction of what has been called as a 'relationship'. Hence, people started to take this phenomenon as a problematic issue. Also, high-rise apartments made its residents more isolated and individualistic on a growing basis. In order to aid the aggravating symptoms, there has been a wide recognition between the "dwellers" to develop and strengthen their "community". This movement in strengthening the "community" is currently on a full expansion towards the cyber space, riding the tides of a drastic improvement of the Internet. Apartment web sites today not only displays introductory level of information they also provide wider meanings of general lifestyle plus deeper content, which can enhance their community.

Vacuum interrupters in order to be used in various switch-gear components such as circuit breakers, distribution switches, contactors, etc. spread the arc uniformly over the surface of the contacts. The electrodes of vacuum interrupters are made of sinter-forged Cu-Cr materials for good electrical and mechanical characteristics. Since the closing velocity is 1-2m/s and impact deformation of the electrode depends on the strain rate at that velocity, the dynamic behavior of the sinter-forged Cu-Cr is a key to investigate the impact characteristics of the electrodes. The dynamic response of the material at the high strain rate is obtained from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test using disc-type specimens. Experimental results from both quasi-static and dynamic compressive tests are Interpolated to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulation of the dynamic behavior of the electrodes. The impact characteristics of a vacuum interrupter are investigated with computer simulations by changing the value of five parameters such as the initial velocity of a movable electrode, the added mass of a movable electrode, the wipe spring constant, initial offset of a wipe spring and the virtual fixed spring constant.

We propose a new multiscale Galerkin method based on interpolation wavelets for two-dimensional Poisson's and plane elasticity problems. The major contributions of the present work are: 1) full multiresolution numerical analysis is carried out, 2) general boundaries are handled by a fictitious domain method without using a penalty term or the Lagrange multiplier, 3) no special integration rule is necessary unlike in the (bi-)orthogonal wavelet-based methods, and 4) an efficient adaptive scheme is easy to incorporate. Several benchmark-type problems are considered to show the effectiveness and the potentials of the present approach. is 1-2m/s and impact deformation of the electrode depends on the strain rate at that velocity, the dynamic behavior of the sinter-forged Cu-Cr is a key to investigate the impact characteristics of the electrodes.
