  • This paper represents measurement prodcedure and analysis of terrestrial DTV field test results over Taejeon city area. Thirty three points were selected as measuring points. Signal power, noise power, Segment Error Rate, RMS delay spread and equalizer performance was measured. The video and audio quality of DTV was good over half of test sites. Equalizer, could correct signal ghost and improve S/N up to 13.7 dB. From this test, the test procedure for DTV will be estabilished.

  • The contrast ratio is one of the most important performance parameters for display devices. The general method of measuring the contrast ratio is to determine the ratio of the full-screen white pattern to the full-screen black pattern, according to the Video Electronics Standards Association standard. Real TV images seldom have these images, however, and the conventional method does not reflect the true performance of the display in actual use. In this paper, a new contrast ratio measurement method that uses image patterns is proposed, to demonstrate that active matrix organic light-emitting diode TVs have a higher contrast than LED (LCD) TVs.

  • The most important issue for successful deployment of IPTV service is the service quality. In this paper, we first choose critical quality metrics belonging to each layer of IPTV service transmission architecture and then analyze the relation between the quality parameters. For this purpose, we implement a test network that emulates the most practical environment in which IPTV service is provided and repeat measurements on the test network for the chosen metrics. Based on the analysis result, it is shown that packet losses have greater effect on the video quality of IPTV service comparing to delay and jitter.

  • A personal computer based color machine vision system with video camera and fluorescent lighting system was used to generate images of stationary tobacco leaves. Image processing algorithms were developed to extract both the geometric and the color features of tobacco leaves. Geometric features include area, perimeter, centroid, roundness and complex ratio. Color calibration scheme was developed to convert measured pixel values to the standard color unit using both statistics and artificial neural network algorithm. Improved back propagation algorithm showed less sum of square errors than multiple linear regression. Color features provide not only quality evaluation quantities but the accurate color measurement. Those quality features would be useful in grading tobacco automatically. This system would also be useful in measuring visual features of other agricultural products.

  • The objective of this study is to share multimedia contents included in existing digital devices and to solve the problems of an increase in installation fees and non-environmentally friendly interiors. This study designed a new digital signal transmitter and receiver using power line transmission and HDMI in order to solve the problems in the existing systems. The transmitter and receiver designed in this study used an AD9867BCPZ PLC chip in which the transmission came from digital signals originating in a PC, and the system architecture was configured so that the outputs signals were connected to a TV from the receiver. The experiment was implemented by adding a Video Test Generator, a USBPre external sound card, and Smaart Live 6 for analyzing the characteristics of the configured system. In the video test results, it was verified that communication was actively implemented, and the image quality showed a constant level from the measurement of the captured video. In the case of the sound, it was verified that more than 90% of the sound signals were normally transmitted and received from the examination of their phases and magnitudes. Thus, the performance of the system designed in this study was verified, which leads to the resolution of some of the problems found in current digital devices.

  • In this study, we study that the video attributes captured by built-in camera in smart-phone can effect on the quality of PPG signal. The conditions of video attributes were composed of the bitrate, the resolution, the flash. As each condition, we measured a change in the red value of the video image and calculated a PPI(Pulse to Pulse Interval) for extracting the pulse wave signal. 20 subjects participated in the experiment and this experiment was carried out 18 tasks. The PPG signal was measured simultaneously for two minutes with the PPG sensor in the middle finger and Smart-phone in the forefinger of the right hand. By proceeding the correlation analysis, we obtained the highest correlation condition(83%, p=0.01), which the resolution was $640{\times}480$, bitrate was 5000kbps, flash was on. As a result, this study will be a useful guide for quality of signals in the pulse signal measurement system using built-in camera in smart-phone.

  • As the digital TV markets rapidly growing, many manufacturers introduce large size flat screen TV units. There are two different display types available to large size models which are plasma and TFT-LCD. Since both are constructed with thin large panels that are mostly fragile to even moderate mechanical shock inputs. Some large size panels are severely resonated by the acoustic sound generated TV which deteriorates video quality. Recognizing the potential problems of large displays, accurate measurement of the panels is to be an essential task for the reliable design. Measurement of mechanical properties of a thin large crystallized panel such as TFT-LCD display with traditional material testing equipments is challenging. Since TFT-LCDs are constructed with combination of brittle glass panels, polymer sheets, and liquid crystal, their properties are not only anisotropic but also usually non-linear. Accurate measurement of the properties often requires very expensive facilities. Especially when the size of the test sample is as large as 40-inch or wider, direct measurement cost is prohibitive. Even worse, machining of the large TFT-LCD to make a smaller size specimen that could be fit into a material tester is not possible because of liquid crystal leakage. A new method fer the measurement of elastic modulus of large TFT-LCD panel is presented in this article. The suggested method provides a simple, economic, and user-friendly way fer measuring the elastic modulus of large panels with considerable level of accuracy.

  • Due to a development of a modem technology as Power Line Communication(PLC) over 200 Mbps, the high-speed multi-media data trasmission could be currently possible. The strength of the PLC has no more additional wiring work. PLC has also possible to high quality data transmission with currently electrical cable. It has a various strong point campare with existing wire and wireless communication technologies. In This paper we develop a high quality media transmitter-receiver based on merging the HomePlug AV, which is 200 Mbps class PLC technology and HDMI Interface technology. The video function was used for the VEDEO TEST GENERATOR in order to a property valuation. Smart Live 6 software were used for the assessment of audio property. As the result of measurement of the HD class images by capturing from the receiver of the PLC, the quality of images couldn't be confirm any deterioration, which has compared with original reflections. In case of audio part as the result of confirmation of the Phase, Magnitude, it has been confirmed that over 90% of nomal transmition and receiving of acoustic signal. It can be possible to have HD class Media service through the PLC.

  • In order to improve the Quality-of-Service (QoS) of latency sensitive applications in next-generation cellular networks, multi-path is adopted to transmit packet stream in real-time to achieve high-quality video transmission in heterogeneous wireless networks. However, multi-path also introduces two important challenges: out-of-order issue and reordering delay. In this paper, we propose a new architecture based on Software Defined Network (SDN) for flow aggregation and flow splitting, and then design a Multiple Access Radio Scheduling (MARS) scheme based on relative Round-Trip Time (RTT) measurement. The QoS metrics including end-to-end delay, throughput and the packet out-of-order problem at the receiver have been investigated using the extensive simulation experiments. The performance results show that this SDN architecture coupled with the proposed MARS scheme can reduce the end-to-end delay and the reordering delay time caused by packet out-of-order as well as achieve a better throughput than the existing SMOS and Round-Robin algorithms.

  • Block based transform coding is most popular approach for image and video compression. However it suffers from severe quality degradation especially from blocking artifacts. The subjective quality degradation caused by such blocking artifacts in general does not agree well with an objecive quality measurement such as PSNR. Hence new quality evaluation technique is necessary. We propose a new image quality assessment method by measuring blocking artifacts for block based transform coded images. In order to characterize blocking artifacts, proposed method utilizes the facts that, blocking artifacts, when occur, have different pixel values along the block boundaries and such differences usually continuously span along the whole boundaries. This method does not require the original uncompressed image. It operates on single block boundary and quantifies the amount of blocking artifacts on it. Experiments on various compressed images various bitrates show that proposed quantitative measure of blocking artifacts matches well with the subjective quality of them judged by human visual system.
