  • Detection of abandoned objects for smart video surveillance should be robust and accurate in various situations with low computational costs. This paper presents a new algorithm for abandoned object detection based on the dual background model. Through the template registration of a candidate stationary object and presence authentication methods presented in this paper, we can handle some complex cases such as occlusions, illumination changes, long-term abandonment, and owner's re-attendance as well as general detection of abandoned objects. The proposed algorithm also analyzes video frames at specific intervals rather than consecutive video frames to reduce the computational overhead. For performance evaluation, we experimented with the algorithm using the well-known PETS2006, ABODA datasets, and our video dataset in a live streaming environment, which shows that the proposed algorithm works well in various situations.

  • In this paper we propose a flexible video authentication scheme based on aggregate signature, which provides authenticity of a digital video by means of cryptographic signature to guarantee right of users. In contrast to previous works, the proposed scheme provides flexible usages on content distribution system, and it allows addition of new contents to the signed contents and deletion of some parts of the signed contents. A modification can be done by content owner or others. Although contents are modified by one or more users, our scheme can guarantee each user's right by aggregation of the each user's signatures. Moreover, proposed scheme has half size of Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) with comparable security.

  • The main disadvantage of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is its sensitivity to carrier frequency offset and timing offset. This paper proposes a simple way of improving the performance of the integer frequency offset (IFO) estimator in OFDM-based digital video broadcasting (DVB) system. By modifying the conventional maximum likelihood (ML) estimator to have multi-stage estimation strategy, IFO estimator is derived. Simulations indicate that the proposed IFO estimator works robustly with reduced computational burden when compared to ML estimator.

  • The next-generation video coding standard known as High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) was developed with the aim of doubling the bitrate reduction offered by H.264/Advanced Video Coding (AVC) at the expense of an increase in computational complexity. Mode decision with motion estimation is still one of the most time-consuming computations in HEVC, as it is with H.264/AVC. Several schemes for a fast mode decision have been presented in reference software and in other studies. However, a possible speed-up in conventional schemes is sometimes insignificant for videos that have inhomogeneous spatial and temporal characteristics. This paper proposes a bypass algorithm to skip large-block-size predictions for videos where small block sizes are preferred over large ones. The proposed algorithm does not overlap with those in previous works, and thus, is easily used with other fast algorithms. Consequently, an independent speed-up is possible.

  • Several 3 dimensional image display systems were recently developed in Korea. These are a holographic video system based on pulse laser illumination, ad 8-view 3 dimensional image system capable of displaying computer generated 3 dimensional images and multiview 3 dimensional imaging system based on moving aperture and holographic screens of both transmission and reflection types. All these systems require no special glasses to watch and works impressively.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel probing mechanism for adaptive transmission of video data based on congestion control and client state. The proposed mechanism is friendly to the network dominant transport protocols (TCP) and can reduce fluctuations compared to the previous works.

  • Video transcoding is a technique used to convert a compressed input video stream with an arbitrary format, size, and bitrate into a different attribute video stream different attributes to provide a efficient video streaming service for the customers is dispersed in the heterogeneous networks. Specifically, frames deletion occur in a transcoding scheme that exploits the adjustment of frame rate, and at this time, the loss in temporal relation among frames due to frame deletion is compensated for the prediction of motion estimation by reusing motion vectors in the would-be deleted frames. But the processing time for transcoding don't have an improvement as much as our expectation because transcoding is done only within the transcoder. So in this paper, we propose a new transcoding algorithm based on prediction period to improve transcoding-related processing time. For this, we also modify the existing encoder so as to adjust dynamically frame rate based on the prediction period and deletion period of frames. To check how the proposed algorithm works nicely, we implement a video streaming system with the new transcoder and encoder to which it is applied. The result of the performance test shows that the streaming system with proposed algorithm improve 60% above in processing time and also PSNR have a good performance while the quality of pictures is preserved.

  • The widespread use of the Internet and the maturing of digital video technology have led to an increase in various streaming media application. However, new classes of hosts such as mobile devices are gaining popularity, while the transmission became more heterogeneous. Due to the characteristics of mobile networks such as low speed, high error bit rate, etc., the applications over the wireless channel have different needs and limitations from desktop computers. An intermediary between two communicating endpoints to hide the heterogeneous network links is thought as one of the best approaches. In this paper, we adopted the concept of inter-packet gap and the sequence number between continuously received packets as the error discriminator, and designed an adaptive packet sizing mechanism to improve the network efficiency under varying channel conditions. Based on the proposed mechanism, the packetization scheme with error protection is proposed to scalable encoded video delivery. Finally, simulation results reveal that our proposed mechanism can react to the varying BER conditions with better network efficiency and gain the obvious improvement to video quality for stored MPEG-4 FGS video delivery.

  • Social pedestrian groups are the basic elements that constitute a crowd; therefore, detection of such groups is scientifically important for modeling social behavior, as well as practically useful for crowd video understanding. A social group refers to a cluster of members who tend to keep similar motion state for a sustained period of time. One of the main challenges of social group detection arises from the complex dynamic variations of crowd patterns. Therefore, most works model dynamic groups to analysis the crowd behavior, ignoring the existence of stationary groups in crowd scene. However, in this paper, we propose a novel unified framework for detecting social pedestrian groups in crowd videos, including dynamic and stationary pedestrian groups, based on spatiotemporal-oriented energy measurements. Dynamic pedestrian groups are hierarchically clustered based on energy flow similarities and trajectory motion correlations between the atomic groups extracted from principal spatiotemporal-oriented energies. Furthermore, the probability distribution of static spatiotemporal-oriented energies is modeled to detect stationary pedestrian groups. Extensive experiments on challenging datasets demonstrate that our method can achieve superior results for social pedestrian group detection and crowd video classification.

  • In recent years, with the rapid growth of China's animation industry, the two-dimensional culture and consumption have been immersed in the daily lives of young people. The two-dimensional culture that mainly exists on young people is gradually entering the public's field of vision, making the two-dimensional culture not It is only restricted to the fixed fan circle, but is known to more people outside the circle. At the same time, the "barrage" (screen text) cultures in video websites has become popular with some film and television works, Internet terms, etc., and has attracted the attention on mainstream culture. On the one hand, its cultural products have appeared on traditional mainstream video websites and advertisements on provincial satellite TV. And in the program, on the other hand, a small part of the screen text and cultural terms are also used by some celebrities and other ordinary people who don't understand the meaning of the terms at all, and have caused widespread dissemination. Sometimes the video website itself is also mentioned, which obviously shows a difference. The tendency towards a kind of screen texts subculture to penetrate the mainstream culture.
