We propose an effective packet marking algorithm for video streaming in DiffServ network. Because legacy packet markers such as srTCM(single rate three color marker) cannot distinguish the importance of packet, these markers can cause quality degradation of streaming during the network congestion period. Recently proposed TMS (Two Marker System) [4] shows effectiveness in such scenario that video streaming service is struggling with other types of service traffic. However, if many video streaming services co-exist in DiffServ network and result in competition among themselves, then both legacy packet markers and even TMS cannot prevent drastic streaming quality degradation. To cope with this, we suggest A-TCPM (Adaptive time sliding window Three Color Marker) algorithm. In this algorithm, an A-TCPM module decides the color of a racket based upon the probability which is lead by current channel status and frame importance ratio. Simulation results show that proposed A-TCPM algorithm can enhance streaming service quality especially when overbooked video streaming sessions struggle with themselves.

Streaming video service over wireless and mobile communication networks has received significant interests from both academia and industry recently. Specifically, mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) is capable of providing high data rate and flexible Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms, supporting mobile streaming very attractive. However, we need to note that streaming videos can be partially deteriorated in their macroblocks and/or slices owing to errors on OFDMA subcarriers, as we consider that compressed video sequence is generally sensitive to the error-prone channel status of the wireless and mobile network. In this paper, we introduce an OFDMA subcarrier-adaptive mobile streaming server based on cross-layer design. This streaming server system is substantially efficient to reduce the deterioration of streaming video transferred on the subcarriers of low power strength without any modifications of the existing schedulers, packet ordering/reassembly, and subcarrier allocation strategies in the base station.
HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) is a technique that adapts its video quality to network conditions for providing Quality of Experience. In the HAS approach, a video content is encoded at multiple bitrates and the encoded video content is divided into several video segments. A HAS player estimates the network bandwidth and adjusts the video bitrate based on estimated bandwidth. However, the segment scheduler in the conventional HAS player requests video segments periodically without considering TCP. If the waiting duration for the next segment request is quite long, the TCP connection can be initialized and it restarts slow-start. Slow-start causes the reduction in TCP throughput and consequentially leads to low-quality video streaming. In this study, we propose a TCP-aware segment scheduling scheme to improve performance of HAS service. The proposed scheme adjusts request time for the next video request to prevent initialization of TCP connection and also considers the point of scheduling time. The simulation proves that our scheme improves the Quality of Service of the HAS service without buffer underflow issue.
With recent proliferation of video-on-demand services, caching in a multimedia streaming server is becoming increasingly important. Previous studies have shown that request interval based caching and its extension for considering different video popularity performs well in various streaming environments. In this paper, we show that block level refinement of this existing scheme can further improve the performance of streaming servers. Trace driven simulations with real world VOD traces have shown that the proposed scheme improves the cache hit rate and the startup latency.
Recently, the video quality control schemes for the improvement of the QoE (Quality of Experience) of video streaming services that are based on DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), which is a standard of HTTP adaptive streaming (HAS) services, have been studied. However, the problem of the existing schemes is the degradation that is due to unnecessary quality changes because the VBR (Variable Bitrate) characteristics of the video are not considered. In this paper, we propose a SC-DASH (Segment Characteristics-based DASH) which controls the video quality based on the segment characteristics. The SC-DASH can prevent the occurrence of the unnecessary quality changes by controlling the video quality based on the size of the next segment, the segment throughput, and the buffer occupancy. The experiment results showed that the SC-DASH improves the QoE by reducing the unnecessary quality changes compared with the existing quality control schemes.

In this paper we propose several mapping schemes for streaming video generated by state-of-the-art H.264 codec over IEEE 802.11e enabled wireless LANs. The schemes take advantage of both 802.11e's QoS mechanism and some novel features of the H.264 codec, so as to protect the most important information in terms of visual quality and reduce distortion under network congestion. The proposed methods are evaluated by means of the H.264 reference software codec, network simulation, and objective video quality measurements. Results show that the proposed methods achieve a robust and error resilient H.264 video streaming over wireless LANs than traditional best-effort streaming.
This paper used OPNET to simulate video streaming service a test IP network and MPLS network with the traffic shaping that have with CQ_ LLQ algorithm, LSP of fixed bandwidth, policy of limitation users and measures parameters such as delay, throughput, packet loss. To verify the performance of video streaming service in IP network and MPLS network, two scenario that have same topology and traffic source. One is the simulation for best-effort service in pure IP network. The other is the simulation for QoS-enabled service in MPLS Network. Based on simulation result, the MPLS network with CQ_ LLQ algorithm and fixed LSP show advantage of the video streaming service QoS, specially delay and packet loss

This paper introduces an implementation of SVC player which runs on Android platform and can play SVC video stream on line from SVC video server. SVC(Scalable Video Coding) is a scalable video encoding technique which supports three scalability such as temporal scalability, spatial scalability, and quality scalability. To implement the SVC player on Android, we implemented a SVC decoder using JSVM open source written in C/C++ as a native part on Android and developed Android UI in Java. Also we built an SVC encoding system off line and an SVC streaming server to conduct on-line SVC streaming experiments. Finally, after we installed the SVC player developed in this paper on Motoroi mobile phone, we evaluated and analyzed on-line streaming performance of the SVC player. The result showed that the player worked well and it had no jitter in streaming with the size of QCIF and 10fps from a fully encoded SVC video source.

The existing research on the QoS of the Streaming video system(SVS) adjust the video stream being sent from the network perspective, the focus is to prevent data loss and delay. The other hand, changing the quality of the video stream will not receive the guaranteed QoS from the perspective of the users who want uniform quality. In order to solve these problems, this paper applied to ensure that the benefits in the amount of bits per frame occurs Encoder CBR streaming video is kept constant and uniform picture quality advantages of VBR streaming video VBR to CBR Encoder and CBR to VBR Decoder, Video was designed to control the playback stream for And to ensure a uniform quality of the user based on the design and implementation of uniform quality guaranteed SVS. PSNR evaluated for several characteristics of the sample video to demonstrate the superiority of the SVS ensure uniform quality, the proposed Performance evaluation of the SVS ensure uniform quality CBW the ABR from 100% to ensure uniform image quality from 85% to environmental excellence is proved.

Adaptive hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) streaming has become a new trend to support adaptivity in video delivery. An HTTP streaming client needs to estimate exactly resource availability and resource demand. In this paper, we focus on the most important resource which is bandwidth. A new and general formulation for throughput estimation is presented taking into account previous values of instant throughput and round trip time. Besides, we introduce for the first time the use of bitrate estimation in HTTP streaming. The experiments show that our approach can effectively cope with drastic changes in connection throughput and video bitrate.
