  • In this paper, a balanced bitrate control in transcoding process based on video complexity measure for multi-view system which simultaneously shows multiple channels or video contents in single screen, is proposed. In order to consider the total quality of multiple video streams, the proposed algorithm reduces the complexity of multiple video stream and video quality differences at the same time by controlling bitrates of each stream by weighting when they are stitched for single screen. For the measure of complexity and quality differences between video streams, two different data: histogram of macroblock type and bitrate for each stream are used. The experimental result indicates that proposed algorithm decreases fluctuation of quality difference between videos in the multi-view system.

  • In digital broadcasting, applications are computer programs executed by the set-top box(TV receiver) , and synchronized applications are those that perform tasks at the specified moments in the underlying video. This paper describes important concepts, standards, and skills needed to implement synchronized applications and explains how to integrate them to implement these applications. This Paper assumes the European data broadcasting standard, DVB-MHP. In DVB-MHP, scheduled stream events are recommended as a means of synchronizing applications with video streams. In this method, the application receives each stream event, and executes the action associated with the stream event at the time specified in the stream event. Commercially available stream generators, i.e., multiplexers, do not generate transport streams that support scheduled stream events. So we used a stream generator implemented in our lab. We implemented a synchronized application where the actions triggered by stream events are to display graphic images. We found that our synchronized application processes scheduled stream events successfully. In our experimentation, the stream events were synchronized with the video and the deviation from the intended time was within 240 ㎳, which is a tolerance for synchronization skew between graphic images and video.

  • In this paper we propose an effective method to represent, store, and retrieve video streams efficiently from a video database. We extract features from each video frame, normalize the feature values, and represent them as values in the range [0,1]. In this way a video frame with f features can be represented by a point in the f-dimensional space $[0,1]^f$, and thus the video stream is represented by a trail of points in the multidimensional space. The video stream is partitioned into video segments based on camera shots, each of which is represented by a trend vector which encapsulates the moving trend of points in a segment. The video stream query is processed depending on the comparison of those trend vectors. We examine our method using a collection of video streams that are composed of sports, news, documentary, and educational videos. Experimental results show that our trend vector representation reduces a reconstruction error remarkably (average 37%) and the retrieval using a trend vector achieves the high precision (average 2.1 times) while maintaining the similar response time and recall rate as existing methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a smart HLS(HTTP Live Stream) platform with dynamic single buffering for the best transmission of adaptive video bit-rates. This smart HLS can optimizes the channel transition zapping-time with the monitoring of bandwidth between HLS server and OTT(Over The Top) client. This platform is designed through the control of video stream due to proper multi-bitrates and bandwidths. This proposed OTT can decode the live and VOD(Video On Demand) videos with the buffering of optimumal bitrate. And, the HLS can be cooperated with a smart OTT, and segmented for the m3u8 files of H.265 MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream) videos. As a resullt, this single buffer based smart OTT can transmit optimal videos with the maximum data buffering according to the adaptive bit-rate depending on the network bandwidth efficiency and the decoded VOD video, too.

  • Over the past 30 years, many efficient 2D video coding techniques have been presented and developed from many research centers for commercialization. However, direct application of these monocular compression schemes is not optimal for stereo video coding. In this paper, we present a new technique for coding stereo video sequences based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The proposed technique exploits Zerotree Entropy Coding (ZTE) that makes use of the wavelet block concept to achieve low bit rate stereo video coding. The one of two image streams, called main stream, is independently coded by modified MPEG-4 encoder and the other stream, called auxiliary stream, is coded by predicting from its corresponding image, its previous image or its follow image.

  • In this paper, we proposed a system for bit stream wireless communication using audio/video infrared transceiver and implemented a circuit. The proposed transmitter system converted bit stream into analog signal format that is similar to NTSC. Then the analog signal can be transmitted by infrared spatial coupler for A/V signals. And the receiver system recover the bit stream by inverse process of transmitter.

  • HD padding area is essential redundancy in HD broadcasting. It is possible to use this padding area for the purpose of improving DTV broadcasting services. For utilization of this area, The bit of a service data was converted to black and white $8{\times}8$ block image. Converted block images are compressed with active video and are delivered to a receiver as only DC coefficients in a video stream. video quality is not effected by the proposed method, and service data was perfectly recovered in receiver without errors by using block average and threshold. The proposed utilization of HD essential padding area can possibly overcome the limited transmission stream rate with the bandwidth of HD broadcasting. If service data in transport or video stram were transferred using this padding area, it is possible to improve video quality with expanded video stream rate. Additionally, because the proposed methods are based on well-established standards, it is also useful for world-wide HD broadcasting systems such as ATSC, DVB, and IPTV.

  • Video-On-Demand system provides electronic video rental services from remote video servers on a broadband communication networks. Most of proposed VOD systems are typically designed for one-to-one conncetion between a user and video server. Therefore, video server stream services to customers individually by allocating a dedicated transmission channel and a set of video server resources for each customer. However, it is inefficiency and wxpensive way when server support multiple users who access the same video stream with a dedicated video channel. Therefore, to achieve cost-effectiveness, batching have studied method that uses multicast communication to simultaneously service all users requesting the same video with a single video with a single video stream. However, the application of the multicast communication by batching detract from the VCR-like function and on-demand nature of the system. In this paepr, we propose a scheme that can support an interactive VCR for all user requesting the same video stream with batching. To reduce a server I/O and network bandwidth requirement, dynamic buffer is allocated to access node which has variable playout poit. Consequently, it makes possible interactive VCR operation as if customer uses true VOD system. Also, this scheme can just deliver a multicast stream without delay after an initial request or VCR action occurred. The policy can guarantee acceptable services to number of users at minimum cost.

  • MPEG-2 transcoding scheme is proposed as scalable transmission system for a video-on-demand system is described. In this system video contents encoded by MPEG-2 are transmitted to receiver terminals via communication lines that have different bit rate. A transcoding technique that directly converts a bit stream encoded by MPEG-2 into a lower coding rate stream without decoding is proposed. The transcoder called Trampeg includes size reduction and frame drop approach. The experimental results show that an MPEG-2 stream of 0 Mbps is able to be transcoded into a stream of 1.5 Mbps-300 Kbps.

  • Video-On-demand system provides electronic video rental services from remote video servers on a broadband communication networks. When we assume some situation that serve the same video stream by batching, each time single video stream became available at server-end side, we face the problem that what video stream to be scheduled at what time instant. Hence, in order to manage the resource bandwidth which is different at each stream, the policy of channel allocation became important factor. In this work, we proposed three type of scheduling policies with queueing, as are cumulative Waiting Time(CWT), Mean Waiting Time(MWT) and Predictable Popular Factor(PPF). While CWT policy is good for popular video, MWT policy was good for non-popular video. Also, we know that PPT policy has some fairness for average wait time and reneging rate of user requests.
