  • Recently, HTTP Adaptive Streaming(HAS), a video streaming service over the HTTP based web platform has become common. The use of HAS service in mobile communication devices such as mobile phones and tablet PCs is rapidly expanding. This paper addresses ways to improve the quality of HAS service by enhancing the terms of viewer satisfaction. HAS systems have several internal operational processes, which can affect viewer satisfaction. Such processes include, the quality determination for the next video chunk, the TCP connections-setup procedure and the congestion control operation of the TCP. This paper proposes a transmission scheme to improve the HAS quality services over mobile web. The proposed scheme takes into consideration the past implicit communication state of the receiver's playback buffer occupancy. The results of these experiments indicate that the proposed scheme can improve the quality of HAS service from the mobile viewer's point of view.

  • We present a new watermark design tool for digital images and digital videos that are based on human visual system (HVS) characteristics. In this tool, basic mechanisms (inhibitory and excitatory behaviour of cells) of HVS are used to determine image dependent upper bound values on watermark insertion. This allows us to insert maximai allowable transparent watermark, which in turn is extremely hard to attack with common image processing, Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) compression. As the number of details (e.g. edges) increases in an image, the HVS decrease its sensitivity to the details. In the same manner, as the number of motion increases in a video signal, the HVS decrease its sensitivity to the motions. We model this decreased sensitivity to the details and motions as an (motion) entropy masking. Entropy masking model can be efficiently used to increase the robustness of image and video watermarks. We have shown that our entropy-masking model provides watermark scheme with increased transparency and henceforth increased robustness.

  • The recent, a large capacity of communication is required in order to it is in proportion to capacity of information communication increase and to satisfy a demand because of the demand about Internet, a multimedia service of Video of internet protocol(VoIP), Audio/Video steaming. DWDM(Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technique has been emerged as the method of solving it without additional optical fiber network building and hish-speed equipment. Therefore this thesis proposed the optical filter of fiber/multilayer slab coupled structure combining it to multilayer slab waveguide by polishing the cladding of one side of fiber to design the optical filter having these functions. The optical filter proposed as the simulation result satisfies DWDM filter characteristic; 1) when the separation distance between fiber and slab is $4.15{\mu}m$ at the communication window of $1.5{\mu}m$, the polarization independence is 65nm, 2) when the center wavelengths about TM mode and TE mode are each ${\lambda}_0=1.54946\;{\mu}m$ and ${\lambda}_0=1.6144\;{\mu}m$ and, FWHM(Full at Half Maximun) is 0.1nm.

  • EXT3NS is a special-purpose file system for large scale multimedia streaming servers. It is built on top of streaming acceleration hardware device called Network-Storage card. The EXT3NS file system significantly improves streaming performance by eliminating memory-to-memory copy operations, i.e. sending video/audio from disk directly to network interface with no main memory buffering. In this paper, we design and implement a buffer cache mechanism, called PMEMCACHE, for EXT3NS file system. We also propose a buffer cache replacement method called ONS for the buffer cache mechanism. The ONS algorithm outperforms other existing buffer replacement algorithms in distributed multimedia streaming environment. In EXT3NS with PMEMCACHE, operation is 33MB/sec and random read operation is 2.4MB/sec. Also, the buffer replacement ONS algorithm shows better performance by 600KB/sec than other buffer cache replacement policies. As a result PMEMCACHE and an ONS can greatly improve the performance of multimedia steaming server which should supportmultiple client requests at the same time.
