  • A novel idea is presented to locate intersections in a video sequence captured from a moving vehicle. More specifically, we propose a Bayesian network approach to combine evidence extracted from a video sequence and evidence from a database, maximizing evidence from various sensors in a systematic manner and locating intersections robustly.

  • This study investigates some schemes to estimate the coding efficiency of a video sequence. The texture complexity and motion are considered as two major parameters to decide the coding efficiency, and the methods to estimate the parameters are discussed. For a fixed values of PSNR, the bit rate of a video sequence is estimated using some schemes based on the estimated parameters, and compared with the bit rate by MPEG-4 AVC.

  • The data-flow paradigm has been employed in various application areas. It is particularly useful where large data-streams must be processed, for example in video and audio processing, or for scientific visualization. A video-based 3D reconstruction system should process multiple synchronized video streams. The system exhibits many properties that can be targeted using a data-flow approach that is naturally divided into a sequence of processing tasks. In this paper we introduce our concept to apply the data-flow approach to a multi-video 3D reconstruction system.

  • Passenger safety is a primary concern of railway system but, it has been urgent issue that dozens of people are killed every year when they falloff from train platforms. Recently, advancements in IT have enabled applying vision sensors to railway environments, such as CCTV and stereo camera sensors. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme for subway accident monitoring system. The proposed scheme is designed for providing flexible video among various displays, such as control center, station employees and train driver. We uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left-view sequence and IBMDC for predicting the P- and B-types of frames of the right-view sequence. IBMDC predicts matching block by interpolating both motion and disparity predicted macroblocks. To provide efficient stereoscopic video service. we define both temporally and spatially scalable layers for each eye's-view by using the concept of Spatio-Temporal scalability. According to the experimental results. we expect the proposed functionalities will play a key role in establishing highly flexible stereoscopic video codec for ubiquitous display environment where devices and network connections are heterogeneous.

  • Global interests for construction of 3 dimensional spatial information has risen due to development of measurement sensors and data processing technologies. In spite of criticism for the violation of personal privacy, CCTV cameras equipped in outdoor public space of urban area are used as a fundamental sensor for traffic management, crime prevention or hazard monitoring. For safety guarantee in urban environment and disaster prevention, a surveillance system integrating pre-constructed 3 dimensional spatial information with CCTV data or video sequence is needed for monitoring and observing emergent situation interactively in real time. In this study, we proposed applicability of the prototype system for web visualization based on X3D, an international standard of real time web visualization, by integrating 3 dimensional spatial information with video sequence.

  • This paper describes an effective technique for coding video sequences based on JPEG2000 codec. In the proposed method, multiple frames are combined into one large picture by interleaving each pixel data. A large picture enables images to be coded more efficiently and image quality is improved. A video sequence is efficiently coded by adapting the time correlation of the video sequences to spatial correlation. We demonstrated the effectiveness of this method by encoding video sequences using JPEG2000.

  • A real-time frame-layer rate control algorithm with a token bucket traffic shaper is proposed for distortion variation minimization. The proposed rate control method uses a non-iterative optimization method for low computational complexity, and performs bit allocation at the frame level to minimize the average distortion over an entire sequence as well as variations in distortion between frames. The proposed algorithm does not produce time delay from encoding, and is suitable for real-time low-complexity video encoder. Experimental results indicate that the proposed control method provides better visual and PSNR performances than the existing rate control method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new efficient motion vector coding algorithm for the video sequence with slow motion. In the proposed algorithm, the amount of motion for a given video sequence is determined by a Skip_rate parameter. The motion difference for slow motion is encoded with a combined codeword which is generated from the conventional codewords. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves approximately $15\%$ bits gain compared to the conventional methods. Moreover, additional memory and calculations for statistical observation are not required in the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust estimation of camera parameters from image sequence for high quality video composition. We first establish correspondence of feature points between consecutive image fields. After the establishment, we formulate a nonlinear least-square data fitting problem. When the image sequence contains moving objects, and/or when the correspondence establishment is not successful for some feature points, we get bad observations, outliers. They should be properly eliminated for a good estimation. Thus, we propose an iterative algorithm for rejecting the outliers and fitting the camera parameters alternatively. We show the validity of the proposed method using computer generated data sets and real image sequeces.

  • This paper proposes a unique data embedding algorithm for the video sequence. It describes two processings: shot boundary detection and robust data embedding. First, for the shot boundary detection, instead of using absolute frame differences, block by block based relative frame differences are employed. Frame adaptive thresholding values are also employed for the better detection. Second, for the robust data embedding, we generate message template and then convolve and correlate it with carrier signal. And then we embed data on the time domain video sequence. By using these two methods, watermarks into randomly selected frames of shots. Watermarks are detected well even if several certain shots are damaged because we embed watermark into each shot equally.
