  • We present the geminate rebinding kinetics measurements of CO to 2-methylimidazole (2-MeIm) bound ferrous protoporphyrin- IX (FePPIX) in alkaline glycerol/water mixtures at 293 K after photolysis. The kinetics was probed by monitoring the CO stretching mode using femtosecond vibrational spectroscopy. When 2-MeIm is used in excess, heme dimers that typically form in low viscosity solutions disappear as the viscosity of the solvent increases. Heme aggregates formed in low viscosity solutions turn monomeric as more 2-MeIm is added, suggesting that 6-coordinated heme, including a strong proximal histidine tends to be in the monomeric form. The vibrational band of CO in the 2-MeIM-FePPIX-CO is well described by a single Gaussian function centered at 1958 $cm^-1$ and 28 $cm^-1$ full width at half maximum. The efficiency and rate of the geminate rebinding of CO to the heme increase with viscosity of the solvent, suggesting that retention of the dissociated CO near the heme, for a longer period by the viscous solvent media, accelerates rebinding.

  • The correlation between the water and N-methylacetamide (NMA) intramolecular vibrational frequencies and the hydrogen-bond length in a variety of NMA-H₂O and NMA-D₂O complexes was investigated by carrying out ab initio calculations. As the hydrogen-bond length decreases, the frequencies of bending and stretching modes of the hydrogen-bonding water increases and decreases, respectively, and the amide I and II (III) mode frequencies of the NMA decreases and increases, respectively. In this paper, correlation maps among the amide (I, II, and III) modes of NMA and three intramolecular water modes are thus established, which in turn can be used as guidelines for interpreting two-dimensional vibrational spectra of aqueous NMA solutions.

  • The paper deals with the structural analysis and vibration test for the scaffolding system of LNG cargo containment. The eight-stories scaffolding system has telescopic area, working area, coner area and storage area in real system. In the structural analysis, the maximum displacement and stress of the each floor for the scaffolding system are investigated by finite element method. In the vibrational analysis, the natural frequencies and mode shapes for 8-stories scaffolding system of the LNG cargo containment are investigated. In order to compare theoretical natural frequencies with experimental ones, small size of 2-step scaffolding structure is used, and the theoretical results for natural frequency have a good agreement with experimental ones.

  • For the spatially coupled free vibration analysis of composite box beams resting on elastic foundation under the axial force, the exact solutions are presented by using the power series method based on the homogeneous form of simultaneous ordinary differential equations. The general vibrational theory for the composite box beam with arbitrary lamination is developed by introducing Vlasov°Øs assumption. Next, the equations of motion and force-displacement relationships are derived from the energy principle and explicit expressions for displacement parameters are presented based on power series expansions of displacement components. Finally, the dynamic stiffness matrix is calculated using force-displacement relationships. In addition, the finite element model based on the classical Hermitian interpolation polynomial is presented. To show the performances of the proposed dynamic stiffness matrix of composite box beam, the numerical solutions are presented and compared with the finite element solutions using the Hermitian beam elements and the results from other researchers. Particularly, the effects of the fiber orientation, the axial force, the elastic foundation, and the boundary condition on the vibrational behavior of composite box beam are investigated parametrically. Also the emphasis is given in showing the phenomenon of vibration mode change.

  • We resolved the controversial assignments of the visible vibronic bands observed from corona discharge of 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene. The vibronic bands belonging to the jet-cooled 2,6-dimethylbenzyl radical were clearly identified from the spectrum observed from corona discharge of 2,6-dimethylbenzyl chloride. After subtracting the bands of the 2,6-isomer from the spectrum observed from corona discharge of 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene, the vibronic bands of the 2,3-isomer were also identified. By comparing data with the known vibrational data of 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene and the results of ab initio calculations, we determined the electronic energies of the $D_1{\rightarrow}D_0$ transitions and vibrational mode frequencies in the ground electronic states of the 2,3-and 2,6-dimethylbenzyl radicals.

  • In this paper, the vibrational characteristics of a foot mount type gearbox for epicyclic gear train have been studied. The modal parameters and mode shapes of a gearbox have been computed using AN SYS code. Modal testing was carried out to verify the FEM analysis model. It has been shown that the analysis results are in good agreements with the experimental results. Harmonic analysis has been executed to verify the effect of thickness variance of gearbox housing on the modal response. Analyzing the calculated results, some guides for optimal vibration response has been deduced.

  • An experimental modal analysis is the process to identify structure's dynamic characteristics such as resonant frequencies, damping values and mode shapes. An experimental model was made of stainless steel in the shape of a circular cylindrical shell and installed on the test bed with jigs. For investigating vibrational characteristics of the continuous circular cylindrical shell with intermediate supports, modal testing is performed by using impact hammer, accelerometer and 8-channel FFT analyzer. The frequency response function(FRF) measurements are also made on the experimental model within the frequency range from 0 to 4kHz. Modal parameters are identified from resonant peaks in the FRF's and animated deformation patterns associated with each of the resonances are shown on a computer screen. The experimental results are compared with analytical and FEA results.

  • The power flow analysis(PFA) has been performed to analyze the vibration of coupled plates excited by a point force in an arbitrry direction. The energy governing equations for longitudinal, shear and flexural waves were solved to predict the vibrational energy density and intensity. The wave transmission approach was used to consider the mode conversion at the joints of the coupled plates. Numerical results for energy density and intensity on the coupled plates were presented. Comparison of the results by PFA with exact results showed that PFA can be an effective tool to predict the spatial variation of the vibrational energy and intensity on the coupled plates at high frequencies.

  • The transfer matrix method is used to determine the dynamic characteristics(natural frequencies and mode shapes) by rotational speed of wind turbine blade. The problems treated on this study is coupled flapwise bending and chordwise bending of pre-twisted nonuniform wind turbine blade. The orthogonality relations that exist between the vibrational modes is derived and the algorithm for determination of the natural vibrational characteristics is suggested.
