A 500Wh class high-speed Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) driven by a built-in BLDC motor/generator has been designed, which runs from 30000 to 60000rpm nominally. Due to the motor/generator inside, the flywheel rotor made of composites supported by PM/EM hybrid bearing system has a shape of bell or pendulum and thus requires accurate rotordynamic analysis and prediction of its dynamic behavior to secure the operating reliability. Rotordynamic analyses of the flywheel rotor-bearing system revealed that the bell shaped rotor has two conical rigid-body modes in the system operating range and the first conical mode, of which nodal point lies in the radial EM bearing position, can adversely affect the dynamic response of the rotor at the corresponding critical speed. To eliminate the possibility of wild behavior of the rotor, two guide bearings are adopted at the upper end of the rotor and motor/generator. It was also revealed that the EM bearing stiffness if 0.5~1.0E+6 N/m and damping of 2000 Ns/m are favirable for smooth operation of the system around the 2nd critical speed.
Precise and reasonable modelling is necessary and indispensable to the analysis of dynamic characteristics of mechanical structures. Also. the effective prediction of the change of modal properties due to the variation of design parameters is required especially for the application of finite element method to the structural dynamics problems. To meet those necessity and requirement, three model updating algorithms are proposed for finite element methods. Those algorithms are based on sensitivity analysis of the modal data obtained from experimental modal analysis(EMA) and analytical modal analysis(AMA). The adapted sensitivity analysis methods of the algorithms are 1)eigensensitivity(EGNS) method. 2)frequency response function sensitivity(FRFS) method. 3)sensitivity based element-by-element method (SBEEM), Singular value decomposition(SVD) is used for performing eigenanalysis and parameter estimation in the updating process. Those algorithms are applied to finite element of a plate and the updating capability of each algorithm is compared in terms of accuracy. reliability and stability of the updating process. It is shown that the model updating method using frequency response function is superior to the other methods in view of various updating capabilities.
A significant change in aerodynamic characteristics of wind turbine blade can occur by ice formed on the surface of the blade operated in cold climate. The ice accretion can result in performance loss, overloading due to delayed stall, and excessive vibration associated with mass imbalance. In this study, the impact of ice accretion on the aerodynamic characteristics of NREL 5MW wind turbine blade sections is examined by a CFD-based method. It is shown that the thickness of ice accretion increases from the root to the tip and the effects of icing conditions such as relative wind velocity play a significant role in the shape of ice accretion. In addition, the computational results are used to assess the degradation in the lift and drag coefficients of the blade sections.
As the induction motor is the core production equipment of the industry, it is necessary to construct a fault prediction and diagnosis system through continuous monitoring. Many researches have been conducted on motor fault diagnosis algorithm based on signal processing techniques using Fourier transform, neural networks, and fuzzy inference techniques. In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis method of induction motor using LPC and DNN. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the fault diagnosis was carried out using the vibration data of the induction motor in steady state and simulated various fault conditions. Experimental results show that the learning time of our proposed method and the conventional spectrum+DNN method is 139 seconds and 974 seconds each executed on the experimental PC, and our method reduces execution time by 1/8 compared with conventional method. And the success rate of the proposed method is 98.08%, which is similar to 99.54% of the conventional method.
A superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFES) is an electro-mechanical battery which transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy for storage, and vice versa. Many aspects of the quasi-static behavior of flywheel rotors still need to be studied closely, and the rotors require a stable and highly efficient supporting system such as high temperature superconductor (HTS) bearings, which offer dynamic stability without the use of active control. Quasi-static properties of HTS bearings in the radial direction provide data to solve problems which may occur in a running system. Since stiffness in countering rotor vibration is the main parameter for designing an HTS bearing system, we investigated the quasi-static properties of the magnetic force between permanent magnets(PMs) and HTS bulks in the radial direction. We measured radial stiffness, and discovered that bearing stiffness varied greatly depending on the number of active HTS bulks. This is valuable data for predicting the change in stiffness during partial HTS bearing failure. The quasi-static test results are used for optimal design and performance prediction for the 100 kWh class superconductor bearing.
Centrifugal fans are widely used and the noise generated by the these machines causes one of the most serious problems. In general, the centrifugal fan noise is often dominated by tones at BPF(blade passage frequency) and its higher harmonics. This is a consequence of the strong interaction between the flow discharged form the impeller and the cutoff in the casing. However, only a few researches have been carried out on predicting the noise because of the difficulty in obtaining detailed information about the flow field and casing effects on noise radiation. The objective of this study is to understand the generation mechanism of sound and to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal fan. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field of the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method (DVM) is used to model the centrifugal by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. A centrifugal impeller and wedge introduced by Weidemann are used in the numerical calculation and the results are compared with the experimental data. Reasonable results are obtained not only for the peak frequencies but also for the amplitudes of the tonal sound.
The warm shrink fitting process is generally used to assemble automobile transmission parts (shaft/gear). But the fitting process can cause the dimensions of addendum and dedendum of the gear to change with respect to the fitting interference and the profile of the gear. As a result, there may be additional noise and vibration between gears. To address these problems, we analyzed the warm shrink fitting process according to process parameters; the fitting interference between the outer diameter of the shaft and the inner diameter of the gear, the inner diameter of the gear, addendum and dedendum of the gear, the heating temperature. In this study, a closed form equation for predicting the amount of deformation of addendum and dedendum in the R-direction was proposed. And the FEA method to analyze the cooling process was proposed for thermal-structural-thermal coupled field analysis of the warm shrink fitting process (heating-fitting-cooling process).
In this paper, it was studied how the critical speed which could occur hot judder due to disk temperature. Through the dynamometer experiment, we measured the critical velocity and surface temperature when the hot judder occur on the disk break. Also with the critical velocity theory equation and the temperature change graph of factors which used in the equation, we was induced experiment equation including theory equation and experiment values. And it has compared with the method which approach as linea. From this, we predicted the change of critical speed which could occur hot judder due to disk temperature. In addition, critical speed graph has compared with actual driving speed and disc temperature at a vehicle test. Therefore it was estimate to possibility of arising hot judder.
Gust load is a very important load factor in designing various structures of an aircraft and judging its stability. This is because the blast effect on the aircraft in operation increases the risk of damage to the structure of the aircraft and causes a negative impact such as shortening the fatigue life by generating vibration. Particularly in the case of wing, a change in angle of attack is caused by gust load, and an additional lift acts on the wing, thereby being exposed to various excitational environments. Severe structural damage to the aircraft may occur if the natural frequencies of the aircraft wing are close to or coincident with the frequencies of the gust load applied to the wing. Recent trends of research include flight dynamics analysis considering discontinuous gusts or structural optimization of the blades under gust load. A number of studies have been conducted to interpret gust load response in consideration of irregularities in gusts. In this paper, we tried to imagine the situation of the aircraft subjected to the gust load as realistic as possible, and proposed an algorithm to track back the critical gust profile according to given aircraft characteristics from the viewpoint of preliminary engineering prediction.
