Torsional Vibration Stress Analysis for Shafting in Reciprocating Machine by Transfer Stiffness Coefficient Method (전달강성계수법에 의한 왕복 기계 축계의 비틀림진동 응력해석)

  • While designing shafting in reciprocating machines with internal combustion engines which derive generators, pumps, and vehicles, it is very important to calculate the additional stress of shafting by torsional vibration. In this paper, the transfer stiffness coefficient method which is based on the successive transfer of stiffness coefficient was applied to the calculation of the additional stress of shafting in reciprocating machine by torsional vibration. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the present method, a propulsion shafting with a diesel engine in a vessel was considered as the computational example of shafting in reciprocating machine. The results calculated by the present method were compared with those of the modal analysis method, the mechanical impedance method, and free vibration analysis.

  • Marine technology must advance to meet the needs of a wealthier and more demanding public while at the same time provide greater environmental protection. Pollution noise and vibration is the specific issue being discussed in this paper Noise is of course due to vibration from high speed engines driving generators, entilators, winch and other gear, while underwater noise pollution results from the propellers and the resistance produced by the hull of the ship moving through the water. Vibration is also a factor in potential damage to sensitive electronic gear and metal fatigue. The issue of noise pollution does not cease when a vessel enters her berth and the main engines shut down. There is still the matter of ventilation and other mechanical factors at work to maintain a comfortable, efficient environment. We measured the noise level and vibration displacement in the training ship A-Ra at underway and Berth. The authors analyzed the frequency of noise and maximum vibration displacement in the position.

  • This paper describes the design and analysis of AlN piezoelectric micro generator. The generator was designed to convert ambient vibration energy to electrical power as a AlN piezoelectric material compatible with integataion process. From the simulation results, the resonance frequency of designed model is about 360 Hz and analyzed the bending mode, displacement and expectation output.

Vibration Characteristics of Heat Exchanger Tube Bundles in Two-Phase Cross-Flow (2상 횡유동을 받는 열교환기 관군의 진동특성)

  • Two-phase cross-flow exists in many shell-tube heat exchangers such as nuclear steam generators, condensers and reboilers. An understanding of damping and of flow-induced vibration excitation mechanisms in necessary to avoid problems due to excessive tube vibration. In this paper, we present the results of experiments on normal-triangular tube bundles of pitch to tube diameter ratio, p/d, 1.22, 1.32 and 1.47. The bundle were subjected to air-water mixtures to simulate realistic mass fluxes and vapour qualities corresponding to void fractions from 5 to 99%. Damping, fluidelastic instability and turbulence- induced excitation are discussed. The behaivior of damping and two vibration mechanisms are different for intermittent flows from for bubbly flows. The effect of pitch to tube diameter ratio and void fraction is dominant on damping and fluidelastic instability.

  • Electric motor with reduction gear systems are being adopted recently as main propulsion on the special-purposed ships. These specialized ships or offshore vessels require higher power rating generators for propulsion and accommodation power supply. This study investigated the cause of exciter components failure in the view of excessive vibration, force or abnormal ship motion in service. Countermeasures are proposed to address the exciter component failure. A 1.4 MW class dual-fuel engine generator using rigid foundation for a LNG carrier was used as research model.

Simulations of fluidelastic forces and fretting wear in U-bend tube bundles of steam generators: Effect of tube-support conditions

  • The structural integrity of tube bundles represents a major concern when dealing with high risk industries, such as nuclear steam generators, where the rupture of a tube or tubes will lead to the undesired mixing of the primary and secondary fluids. Flow-induced vibration is one of the major concerns that could compromise the structural integrity. The vibration is caused by fluid flow excitation. While there are several excitation mechanisms that could contribute to these vibrations, fluidelastic instability is generally regarded as the most severe. When this mechanism prevails, it could cause serious damage to tube arrays in a very short period of time. The tubes are therefore stiffened by means of supports to avoid these vibrations. To accommodate the thermal expansion of the tube, as well as to facilitate the installation of these tube bundles, clearances are allowed between the tubes and their supports. Progressive tube wear and chemical cleaning gradually increases the clearances between the tubes and their supports, which can lead to more frequent and severe tube/support impact and rubbing. These increased impacts can lead to tube damage due to fatigue and/or wear at the support locations. This paper presents simulations of a loosely supported multi-span U-bend tube subjected to turbulence and fluidelastic instability forces. The mathematical model for the loosely-supported tubes and the fluidelastic instability model is presented. The model is then utilized to simulate the nonlinear response of a U-bend tube with flat bar supports subjected to cross-flow. The effect of the support clearance as well as the support offset are investigated. Special attention is given to the tube/support interaction parameters that affect wear, such as impact and normal work rate.

  • A triboelectric generator uses the principles of static electrification and electrostatic induction to convert mechanical energy into useful electrical energy. In this work we study a single degree of freedom (SDOF) vibration type triboelectric generator that is initiated by a vibrating source at its base. The system is modeled in Abaqus and the design parameters are systematically explored by their effect on the output. The relationships between the parameters: input force, input frequency, mass, spring stiffness and gap between the plates, are analyzed. Finally, based on initial experiments, and simulation results, a design methodology is formulated. The methodology will provide guidance for application specific design of reliable and effective vibration type triboelectric generators.

  • Vibrations of the tower structures of 750kW and 6kW wind turbines(WT) are investigated by measurement and analysis. Acceleration responses of the WT towers under various operation condition are monitored in real time by the remote monitoring system using LabVIEW. Using the monitoring system, resonance condition of the tower structures is diagnosed with the wind speed data within the operating speed range. To predict the tower resonance frequency, 750 kW tower is modeled as an equivalent beam with a lumped mass and Rayleigh energy method is applied. For 6 kW WT, Rayleigh-Ritz analysis is carried out on the tower-cable coupled system. Calculated tower bending frequency is in good agreement with the measured value. Using the analysis model, parametric study is available in order to prevent the severe resonance.

Generators were made by attaching cymbal type metal plates on upper and bottom sides of a disc type piezoelectric ceramic. Generator converts wasting mechanical energy to electrical energy. Output voltage was increased when thickness of ceramic and displacement of vibration were increased. Temperature of the ceramic was increased when it generates, but the temperature rising was saturated at certain temperature.
