  • This paper proposes the method of antiresonance frequency analysis of multi-input multi-output system. The structural dynamic modification techniques by antiresonance frequency analysis are also applied to reduce the undertest at specimen attachment points on the fixture in environmental vibration test, which is resulted from the inconsistency of antiresonance frequencies at any specified points. Several computer simulations show that the proposed method can remove the undertest problem which is not removed in conventional vibration test control. And the effectiveness of the method is verified with the impact hammer excitation of aluminium fixture model.

  • In this paper the power flow finite element method (PFFEM) has been used to analyze the vibration of a plate partially covered with a damping sheet. Experiments have been performed to measure the loss factor and frequency response functions of the plate partially covered with the damping sheet. The data for the loss factor has been used as the input data to predict the vibration of the coupled plates with PFFEM. The comparison between the experimental results and the predicted PFFEM results for the frequency response functions has been performed. It showed that PFFEM can be effectively used to predict structural vibration in medium-to-high frequency ranges.

  • This paper is concerned with the measurement of low-frequency vibrations of structures using the image processing method. To measure the vibrations visually, the measurement system consists of a camera, an image grabber board, and a computer. The specific target installed on the structure is used to calculate the vibration of structure. The captured image is then converted into a pixel-based data and then analyzed numerically. The limitation of the system depends on the image capturing speed and the size of image. In this paper, we propose the methodology for the vibration measurement using the image processing method. The method enables us to measure the displacement directly without any contact. The current resolution of the vibration measurement is limited to sub centimeter scale. However, the frequency bandwidth and resolution can be enhanced by a high-speed and high-resolution image processing system.

  • The noncontact vibration exciter system using the electro-magnet for a thin plate is studied in this paper. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion of thin plate is derived. The main purpose of this experiment is to match the input-frequency and response frequency of thin plate. The test equipment is configured to vibrate on both sides of the thin plate using the electro-magnet. Two frequencies(input frequency and response frequency) in our experiments show very good agreement. This study results will contribute to basic investigate of an alternative air-knife system for the steel industry.

  • The characteristics of noise and vibration by a heavy impact source was studied. The triggering method was used for increasing the reliability and stability to measure the level of sound pressure. sound intensity and vibration acceleration. A simple finite element model and a rigid body analysis method were suggested to calculate the natural frequencies of the multi-layer floor system. The results show that the resilient materials decrease the natural frequency of the reinforced concrete slab, make a resonance with dominant driving frequency in the low frequency region, and increase the vibration and noise level. A simple finite element model and rigid body models was suggested to calculate the natural frequencies of the floor systems.

  • In this paper, peak acceleration for horizontal vibration of buildings was estimated from the results of vibration tests using a shaking table. Human comfort of occupants is supposed to be satisfied according to the peak acceleration in NBCC and ISO6897, which have been used by Korean structural engineers. In the paper, we used a one-dimensional shaking table for horizontal vibration tests, which was mounted with a vibration house similar to a living space. Experimental results were obtained according to increasing accelerations in the range of 0.2Hz through 1.2Hz of frequency with five experimental groups, each of which was composed of eight persons. We obtained performance curves by dividing the distribution of perception from horizontal vibration tests into the ranges of 0${\sim}$25%, 26${\sim}$50%, 51${\sim}$75%, 76${\sim}$100% and then fitting the curves. Also we made a questionnaire based on human comfort criteria of foreign countries, and examined the feelings of subjects. From the results of horizontal vibration tests, it was found that acceleration of perception was low when frequency was high, and that visual and auditory senses affect the human perception for horizontal vibration of buildings.

  • Via screw theory, a vibration mode can be geometrically interpreted as a pure rotation about the vibration center in a plane and as a twisting motion on a screw in a three dimensional space. In thi s paper, applying the conditions that can be used to diagonalize the stiffness matrix by a parallel axis congruence transformation, the vibration modes and frequency response of an elastically suspended optical disc drive have been analyzed. It is first shown that the system has one plane of symmetry, which enables one to decouple the complicated vibration modes into two sets of modes independent of each other. Having obtained the analytical solutions for the axes of vibrations, the frequency response for a given applied input force has been demonstrated. Most importantly, it has been explained that this research result could be used in the synthesis process of a linear vibration system in order to improve the frequency response.

  • This study aims to find equivalent comfort contours, reciprocal of frequency weighting curves, for vertical steering wheel vibration. Psychophysical responses were measured from twelve male subjects by using magnitude estimation of relative discomfort due to vertical steering wheel vibrations of magnitude of 0.1 to 1.58 $m/s^2$ in the frequency range of 4 to 250 Hz. Relative discomfort were estimated with a reference vibration of 0.4 $m/s^2$ at 31.5 Hz. Equivalent comfort contours were produced from the median of sensation magnitudes judged by twelve subjects, which showed variation in the shapes with increase of vibration magnitude. A shape of the contour came close to the perception threshold curve with decrease of vibration magnitude. When the vibration magnitude increases, the shape changed close to those in the references of Hong and et al (2003). It is also recommended frequency weighting curves for vertical steering wheel vibration must be expressed as a function of vibration magnitude as well as frequency.

  • Shock and vibration inputs are transmitted from the transporting vehicle through the packaging box to the fruit. The vibration causes sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and the container wall. The steady state vibration input may cause serous fruit injury, and the damage is particularly severe if the fruits are bounced at its resonance frequency. The determination of the resonance frequencies of the fruits and vegetables may help the packaging designer to design the proper packaging system providing adequate protection of the fruits from external impact or shock. In this study, to analyze the vibration properties of the apples for optimum packaging design during transportation, the random vibration tests were carried out. From the results of random vibration test, the resonance frequency and power spectral density (PSD) of the packaged freight of apples in the test were in the range of 82 to 97 Hz and 0.0013 to 0.0021 $G^2/Hz$ respectively and the resonance frequency and PSD of the packaged apples were in the range of 13 to 71 Hz and 0.0143 to 0.0923 $G^2/Hz$ respectively.

  • In this paper, we implemented a polarimetric vibration sensor using a Sagnac birefringence interferometer composed of polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber(PM-PCF). By changing the amplitude and frequency of vibration applied to PM-PCF employed as the sensor head of the proposed sensor, sensor responses to various types of vibration were investigated. First, the vibration characteristic of the sensor was explored for a single frequency in a frequency range from 1 to 3000Hz with a cylindrical piezoelectric transducer, and then the sensor response to naturally damped vibration was examined by utilizing a metal cantilever. It was experimentally observed that the sensor output signal was deteriorated by more than 3dB at ~1900Hz in the single frequency vibration measurement with a minimum detectable strain perturbation of ${\sim}1.34n{\varepsilon}/Hz^{1/2}$ at 1500Hz and the peak value of the sensor output signal was proportional to the strength of initially applied stress in the naturally damped vibration measurement.
