  • Condition monitoring is desirable for increasing machinery availability, reducing consequential damage, and improving operational efficiency. In this paper, a model-based method using neural network modeling of induction noter in vibration spectra is proposed for machine fault detection and diagnosis. The short-time Fourier transform (STFT) is used to process the quasi-steady vibration signals to continuous spectra so that the neural network model can be trained with vibration spectra. And the faults are detected from changes in the expectation of vibration spectra modeling error. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through experimental results.

  • Defect frequencies of rolling element bearings are experimentally investigated utilizing the two-sided directional spectra of the complex-valued vibration signals measured from the outer ring of defective bearings. The directional spectra make it possible to discern backward and forward defect frequencies. The experimental results show that the directional zoom spectrum is superior to the conventional spectrum in identification of bearing defect frequencies, in particular the inner race defect frequencies.

  • A chaotic vibration isolation system is designed according to the chaotic vibration theory in this paper. The strong nonlinearity is generated by the system. Line spectra in the radiated noise maybe easily detected caused by marine vessels. It is Important to reduce the line spectra by improving the acoustic stealth of marine vessels. A multi-degree-freedom (MDF) nonlinear vibration isolation system (NVIS) system is setup by the experiment and finite element method. The model is established with finite element method. The results show that the behavior of the device gradually varies from period bifurcation into chaotic state and the line spectrum is changed from single spectral structure into broadband spectral structure. It is concluded that chaotic vibration isolation is preferable contrasted on line spectra isolation.

  • The vibration of reactor internals should be monitored and diagnosed for the early detection of the failure of reactor pressure vessel. This can be performed by analyzing the time-history signals from the excore neutron flux detertors. The conventional method is an on-demand system which generates power spectra through Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) algorithm. The operator can make his own decision to detect abnormal vibration using these spectra. This post- processing method, however, requires special expertise in the reactor noise analysis and signal processing for random data. It may mislead the operator into erroneous decision-making, if he is a novice in reactor noise analysis. Hence this study is focused on the automated monitoring and diagnosis procedure for the reactor noise analysis, especially on the Fuzzy algorithm to recognize the pattern of the vibration of Core Suport Barrel. The excore neutron signals of Yonggwang Nuclear Power Plant unit 3 is acquired and analyzed using conventional FFT spectra and tested to adopt the Fuzzy method. An Automated Monitoring and Diagnosis System for CSB Vibration using this Fuzzy method is proposed. Furthermore, vibration data for CSB of Youggwang Nnclear Power Plant unit 3 is presented.

  • Vehicle vibration was introduced in the time and frequency domains using fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis. In particular, a vibration mode analysis and characteristics of the frequency response function (FRF) in a sport utility vehicle (SUV) passing over a bump barrier at different speeds was performed systematically. The response behavior of the theoretical acceleration was obtained using a numerical method applied to the forced vibration model. The amplitude and frequency of the external force on the vehicle cause various power spectra with individual intrinsic system frequencies. In this regard, several modes of power spectra were acquired from the spectra and are discussed in this paper. The proposed technique can be used for monitoring the acceleration in a vehicle passing over a bump barrier. To acquire acceleration signals, various experimental runs were performed using the SUV. These acceleration signals were then used to acquire the FRF and to conduct mode analysis. The vehicle characteristics according to the vehicle condition were analyzed using FRF. In addition, the vehicle structural system and bump passing frequencies were discriminated based on their power spectra and other FRF spectra.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of vibration of a hydraulic turbine mainly due to cavitation occurrence. The analysis of vibration spectra of the turbine shaft shows that hub vortex cavitation occurs in the downstream of the turbine runner, which is verified from coherence analysis between shaft vibration displacement and dynamic pressure at the draft tube. Even though acceleration level measured at the guide vane lever, which is usually used for evaluation of cavitations performance, is decreased during forced aeration, it is found from the analysis of dynamic pressure spectra that cavitation around runner blades still remains unchanged. It is also found that lateral vibration of the turbine shaft is mainly due to the hub vortex cavitation of the turbine runner.

  • Homogeneous and crack-free potassium lithium niobate (K₃Li/sub 2-x/Nb/sub 5+x/O/sub 15/, 0<x<0.5, KLN) single crystals were successfully grown by the Czochralski technique. The KLN single crystals of several different compositions were employed for the investigation of the lattice vibration spectra using infrared Raman spectroscopy. The characteristic Raman spectra of the [NbO/sub 6/]/sup 7-/ octahedral ions were strikingly influenced by the Li ion content. The symmetric stretch vibrational modes V₁, V₂ are broadened, and the symmetric bend vibration mode V/sub 5/ is broadened and even split into three peaks with increasing the Li content, supporting that the bend vibration modes of the [NbO/sub 6/]/sup 7-/ octahedrons are obviously perturbed by Li ions in the C site. Enhanced Raman peak intensities after the post annealing at 900℃ and for 24 h evidenced that a residual stress in as-grown crystals was negligible and only a defect concentration might be reduced.

  • A new signal processing technique is applied to four-cylinder spark and compression ignition engines for the diagnosis of power faults inside the cylinders. This technique utilizes two-sided directional power spectra(예S) of complex vibration signals measured from engine blocks as the patterns for engine cylinder power faults. The dPSs feature that they give not only the frequency contents but also the directivity of the engine block motion. For the automatic detection/diagnosis of cylinder power faults, pattern recognition method using multi-layer neural networks is employed. Experimental results show that the sucess rate for diagnosis of cylinder power faults using dPSs is higher than that using the conventional one-sided power spectra. The proposed technique is also tested to check the robustness to the sensor position and the engine rotational speed.

  • This paper proposes a method for determination of optimal reference spectrum in random vibration control. The least square method is used to minimize the spectrum deviation between the specified reference spectrum and spectra at the specimen-mounted points. This method needs only the measured FRF's at the control point and specimen-mounted points in pre-vibration test. Using the proposed method as reference spectrum, it is possible to easily predict spectra at the specimen-mounted points, and also to reduce overtest resulting from dynamic characteristics of shaker and fixture. This method is shown through theoretical and experimental results to be an effective method.

  • Inclusion complexes of the p-nitrophenol with ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (CD), sulfated ${\beta}$-CD, and ${\beta}$-CD polymer cross-linked with epichlorohydrine (EP) were prepared and characterized by Raman spectroscopy. The intensity of vibration peaks of the C-O and C-N at 1284 and $856cm^{-1}$ of the p-nitrophenol in the presence of EP-linked CD polymer was remarkably increased, respectively. The vibration modes at 1284 and $856cm^{-1}$ are assigned to the out-of phase C-C-O stretching mode and the C-N stretching mode, respectively. The vibration peaks at 1284 and $856cm^{-1}$ increased with increasing the content of EP-linked CD polymers, while decreased with increasing the p-nitrophenol content. Furthermore, the vibration mode of the $NO_2$ symmetric stretch at $1344cm^{-1}$ enhanced with increasing the content of p-nitrophenol.
