  • In accordance with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC), Regulatory Guide 1.20, the reactor vessel internals comprehensive vibration assessment program (RVI CVAP) has been developed for an Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400). The purpose of the RVI CVAP is to verify the structural integrity of the reactor internals to flow-induced loads prior to commercial operation. The APR1400 RVI CVAP consists of four programs (analysis, measurement, inspection, and assessment). Thoughtful preparation is essential to the measurement program, because data acquisition must be performed only once. The optimized design of a vibration and stress measurement system for the RVI CVAP is essential to verify the integrity of the APR1400 RVI. We successfully designed a vibration and stress measurement system for the APR1400 RVI CVAP based on the design materials, the hydraulic and structural analysis results, and performance tests of transducers in an extreme environment. The measurement system designed in this paper will be utilized for the APR1400 RVI CVAP as part of the first construction project in Korea.

  • During the start-up of 500 MW class coal-fired power plant, abnormal shaft vibration was occurred on bearings installed on both side of high and intermediate pressure steam turbine. Shaft vibration was analyzed to investigate the reason and find the resolution, based on well-known theory in this study. Typical vibration characteristics which occur when rotating parts contact with stationary parts were observed at the analysis of frequency, amplitude and phase angle. The reason of abnormal vibration was assumed to be rub and internal parts wear was observed during repair period. As a result of applying low speed turning and balancing for resolution of abnormal vibration, balancing was more effective for rub removal. So balancing could be excellent resolution in the case of abnormal vibration which is similar to this study.

  • The power flow analysis (PFA) has been performed to analyze the vibration of coupled plates excited by a point force in an arbitrary direction. The point force generates the out-of-plane vibration associated wish flexural waves and the in-plane vibration associated with longitudinal and shear waves. The energy governing equation for each type of waves was introduced and solved to Predict the vibrational energy density and intensity generated by the out-of-plane and in-plane components of the point force in an arbitrary direction. The wave transmission approach was used to consider the mode conversion at the joint of the coupled plates. Numerical results for vibrational energy density and intensity on the coupled plates were presented. Comparison of the results by PFA with exact results showed that PFA can be an effective tool to predict the spatial variation of the vibrational energy and intensity on the coupled plates at high frequencies.

  • Noise and vibration was encountered in exhaust duct system which is connected with a gas turbine and a heat recovery steam generator(HRSG) of a cogeneration power plants. Especially, these problems occurred when water was added to the fuel injection to reduce NOx contents of the exhaust gas. Through the cavity mode analysis and measurements, It was concluded that these problems occurred due to the acoustic resonance between the duct cavity mode and the excitation force induced by turbulent gas flow during water injection. To reduce the noise and vibration, optimal baffle plate to change the cavity mode was installed inside of duct and noise levels of about 8 dB(A) are reduced in duct system. The effects of baffle plate and guide vane to the HRSG or inlet duct vibration were also evaluated and it was verified that there is no relation to the resonance phenomena. So, vibration of inlet duct was easily reduced by the reinforcement of structures.

  • In this study, the authors examine the propulsion shafting of the training ship SAEDONGBAEK and perform modeling to analyze the torsional free vibration of the shafting. In this paper, the computational algorithm for analyzing the torsional free vibration of the shafting with a reduction gear is formulated by the sylvester-transfer stiffness coefficient method (S-TSCM) that is a recently developed and a powerful method in free vibration analysis. According to the state of the controllable pitch propeller of the shafting and the temperature of the elastic coupling, the torsional free vibration of the shafting is performed by the S-TSCM. The authors examine the changes of the natural frequencies and natural modes which are the results of the torsional free vibration analysis of the shafting.

  • This paper proposes analysis and suppression method for reactive power vibration of the slave motor caused by back-EMF mismatch between the master and the slave motor and stator resistance during middle-low speed operation. The master and slave motors are parallel connected dual SPMSMs(Surface mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) fed by a single inverter. To suppress vibration of reactive power, RPC(Reactive Power Compensator) proposed in this paper analyzes flux-axis current vibration of the slave motor that occurs in middle-low speed operation using a mathematical model of the fan motor. And RPC adds vibration components detected from flux-axis current of the slave motor to flux-axis current of the master motor. The results of experiment conducted verify the efficacy of the proposed method.

  • On the foundation work of Po-Ryong power plant #3 & #4. It was 30meters away from the running states of #1 & #2 plant site. In order to protect the #1 & #2 power plant facilities & factory structure. Allowable vibration was required below 0.07 gal. Therefore, it had to set up the anti-vibration trench to reduce the vibration reference and secondary. I applied the low gravity and low velocity explosives with M/S delay caps by cautious blasting pattern.

  • There are several bearing systems at the large steam-turbines in thermal power plant. The bearing system is one of the most important parts of rotating machinery. The steam turbine vibrations mainly depend on the bearing oil and the shaft alignment condition. This paper describes on the steam turbine abnormal vibration due to the oil whip in terms of the shaft alignment in the thermal power plant.

  • In this paper, the power flow analysis(PFA) method was developed to predict the vibrational responses of coupled co-planar orthotropic plates in frequencies ranging from medium to high. To cover the power transmission and reflection at the joint of the orthotropic plates, the wave transmission approach is applied with the assumption that all the incident waves are normal to the joint. Through numerical analyses, the power flow energy density and intensity fields of coupled co-planar orthotropic plates were compared with those of classical modal solutions by changing the frequency and internal loss factor, and they show good agreement in terms of the global decay and the attenuation patterns of the energy density.
