A Review on the Vibration Exposure Limits in Korea

  • Objective:The objective of this study is to review the exposure limits in the legislation, guidelines, and standards for human vibration in Korea. Background: There have been relatively less interests in vibration than other risk factors in Korea. However, the importance of vibration is increasing as industry and everyday life are more mechanized. Method: Various enforcements were examined including legislation, guidelines, and standards for whole-body vibration and localized vibration. Results: No exposure limits were found in legislation, guidelines, and standards for the human vibration in Korea. Conclusion: It is important to introduce new duties regarding vibration risks to the general duties. Further studies are expected on the vibration exposure limits appropriate for Korean people and job conditions. Application: The results from this study would be of help to induce more interests in human vibration to the occupational health and safety professionals of Korea.

  • In this paper, We have studied on the critical vibration limits of spindle unit for the high speed ball pen tip processing machine. The vibration of bearing can be measured by FFT, and the influence of vibration amplitude due to the Unbalance, bearing deflect, bite and timing belts tension are analyzed. So, the critical vibration limits of spindle is determined by the X, Z directional vibration of spindle Unit.

  • New limits of comfort boundary, psychological damage boundary and exposure limit for building residents by continuous and vibration are suggested. These limits are derived from the ISO 2631 and DIN 4150 regulations. A reasonable method to evaluate damages by vibrations is also suggested using the "total over-exposure of vibration" concept.; concept.

  • The prototype of Korean high speed train (HSR350), composed of two power cars, two motorized cars and three trailer cars, has been designed, fabricated and tested. In this paper, the body vibration has been reviewed from the viewpoint of the vehicle's safety and the vibration limits for components and sub-assemblies mounted on the car-body using by the experimental method. And, the dynamic characteristics, such as jerk, natural mode and kinematic mode, have been reviewed. The KHST has been run to 300 km/h in the KTX line and the results of on-line test show that it has no problems in the vehicle's safety and the vibration limits. And the characteristics of body vibrations has been predicted at 350 km/h by fitting curve about the measured acceleration signals.

  • ISO 11342 classifies flexible rotors in accordance with their balancing requirements and establishes methods of assessment of residual unbalance. This International Standard also shows how criteria for use in the balancing facility may be derived from either vibration limits specified for the assembled and installed machine or unbalance limits specified for the rotor. If such limits are not available, this standard shows how they may be derived from ISO 10816 and ISO 7919 if desired in terms of vibration, or from ISO 1940- 1 if desired in terms of permissible residual balance. This International Standard also presents methods for adapting the criteria of ISO 1940- 1 to flexible rotors.

  • In design stage of high precision manufacture/inspection FAB building, it is necessary to investigate the vibration allowable limits of high precision equipment and to study a structure dynamic characteristics of C/R and Sub-structure in order to provide a structure vibration environment to satisfy thess allowable limits. The aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic characteristics of PC-Type mock-up structures designed for next TFT LCD FAB through vibration measurement and analysis procedure, therefore, to provide a proper dynamic structure design for high precision manufacture/inspection work process, which satisfy thess allowable limits.

A Laboratory Study on Low Frequency Noise Assessment based on Noise Acceptability Limits (소음 수응 한계(Noise Acceptability Limits)를 고려한 저주파 소음평가에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • A laboratory study on low frequency noise assessment was carried out to determine the acceptability limits in the frequency range between 20 and 200 Hz. The acceptability limits were tested in the anechoic chamber to minimize the background noise. A total of 30 test subjects, who were aged between 19 to 33 years, participated in this study. They were exposed to various stimuli for about 1 hour by supra-aural earphone. The experiment consisted of two listening sessions; hearing threshold and the acceptability limits session. The results showed that the trend of the acceptability limits curve was approximately equal to C-weighting curve which had been found to be superior to A-weighting curve in low frequency noise assessment.

  • In general, deflection limit criteria of bridge design specifications would have been considered based on the static serviceability and structural stability. Dynamic serviceability induced from bridge vibration, as a comfort limit, actually has not been included in the criteria. Thus, it is necessary for dynamic serviceability to be considered in bridge vibration problems and for comfort limit on vibration to be needed for evaluating dynamic serviceability of bridges. In this paper, comfort limits of bridge structures considering the time duration exposed by vibration were examined with frequency and time dependent comfort limits, and they were evaluated by using the vibration signals measured from the existing bridges. Therefore, it is resulted that the time-dependent comfort limit considering the duration of vibration is an efficient estimate for evaluating dynamic serviceability of bridges.

  • This paper concerns the design of blasts adjacent to structures and facilities. In order to investigate the site characteristics, measurements of in-situ wave propagation and laboratory tests of rock cores taken from the boreholes were carried out. Effects of rock media and delay intervals on ground vibration levels were identified from over sixty measurements of three times of test blasts. For practical use in the field, an empirical propagation equation was derived so as to reflect the characteristics of rock media and delay effects. Safe limits of vibration level for structures were conservatively established based on various suggested criteria. Safe limits for facilities were adopted so that vibration levels induced by blasting should not exceed the allowable limits specified in the manufacturer's installation condition. Suggested were blast pattern and operation to enhance the rock fracturing and to reduce the ground vibration levels under the restricted conditions.
