A structural modification of baseframe is an effective method to avoid resonance in marine diesel generator (D/G) set which consists of diesel engine, generator and baseframe. However the reinforcement with thick plates or additional parts to increase the natural frequency can be less effective because of increased weight. Especially fine control of target mode based on the experience is difficult because the weight and interference of system have to be considered. In this paper, the design optimization of baseframe was performed to reduce the resonant vibration using a gradient descent method. The design parameters such as thickness, shape and location of baseframe parts are optimized to increase the torsional natural frequency of D/G set. From the actual test, the new designed baseframe reduced the vibration level in resonance by 55% without any increase of weight and interference. interference.
A vibrating double-layered nanoscale piezoelectric plate is developed accounting for the flexoelectricity and surface effects. The flexoelectricity is due to the coupling between electrical polarization and strain gradient. Applying Hamilton's principle, the governing equations and related boundary conditions are derived. Assuming suitable approximate functions, the governing equations are numerically solved for simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions. Obtained results indicate that both the flexoelectricity and surface effects possess notable impact on the vibration frequencies of the system. Only flexoelectricity yields a considerable difference between the present model and previous investigations on conventional piezoelectric nanoplates. Generally, a parametric study has been performed to examine the effects of surface elasticity, flexoelectricity, applied electric voltage, interlayer stiffness, geometrical parameters and boundary conditions on vibration frequencies of piezoelectric nanoplates.
In this study, free vibration of functionally graded (FG) micro/nanobeams based on nonlocal third-order shear deformation theory and under different boundary conditions is investigated by applying the differential quadrature method. Third-order shear deformation theory can consider the both small-scale effects and quadratic variation of shear strain and hence shear stress along the FG nanobeam thickness. The governing equations are obtained by using the Hamilton's principle, based on third-order shear deformation beam theory. The differential quadrature (DQ) method is used to discretize the model and attain the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The properties of FG micro/nanobeam are assumed to be chanfged along the thickness direction based on the simple power law distribution. The effects of various parameters such as the nonlocal parameter, gradient index, boundary conditions and mode number on the vibration characteristics of FG micro/nanobeams are discussed in detail.
The possibility of energy harvesting as well as vibration of a three-layered beam consisting of two piezoelectric layers and one core layer made of nonpiezoelectric material is investigated using nonlocal strain gradient theory. The three-layered nanobeam is resting on an elastic foundation. Hamilton's principle is used to derive governing equations and associated boundary conditions. The generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) was used to discretize the equations, and the Newmark beta method was used to solve them. The size-dependency of the elastic foundation is considered using two-phase elasticity. The equations, as well as the solution procedure, are validated utilizing some compassion studies. This work can be a basis for future studies on energy harvesting of small scales.
Present investigation deals with the free vibration characteristics of nanoscale-beams resting on elastic Pasternak's foundation based on nonlocal strain-gradient theory and a higher order hyperbolic beam model which captures shear deformation effect without using any shear correction factor. The nanobeam is lying on two-parameters elastic foundation consist of lower spring layers as well as a shear layer. Nonlocal strain gradient theory takes into account two scale parameters for modeling the small size effects of nanostructures more accurately. Hamilton's principal is utilized to derive the governing equations of embedded strain gradient nanobeam and, after that, analytical solutions are provided for simply supported conditions to solve the governing equations. The obtained results are compared with those predicted by the previous articles available in literature. Finally, the impacts of nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, slenderness ratio, elastic medium, on vibration frequencies of nanosize beams are all evaluated.
The following composition establishes a nonlocal strain gradient plate model that is essentially related to mass sensors laying on Winkler-Pasternak medium for the vibrational analysis from graphene sheets. To achieve a seemingly accurate study of graphene sheets, the posited theorem actually accommodates two parameters of scale in relation to the gradient of the strain as well as non-local results. Model graphene sheets are known to have double variant shear deformation plate theory without factors from shear correction. By using the principle of Hamilton, to acquire the governing equations of a non-local strain gradient graphene layer on an elastic substrate, Galerkin's method is therefore used to explicate the equations that govern various partition conditions. The influence of diverse factors like the magnetic field as well as the elastic foundation on graphene sheet's vibration characteristics, the number of nanoparticles, nonlocal parameter, nanoparticle mass as well as the length scale parameter had been evaluated.
A computational work of the impulse wave which is discharged from the open end of a pipe is compared to the Lighthill\`s aeroacoustics theory. The second-order total variation diminishing(TVD) scheme is employed to solve the axisymmetric, compressible, unsteady Euler equations. The relationship between the initial compressure wave form and the resulting impulse wave is characterized in terms of the peak pressure. The overpressure, pressure gradient and wavelength of the initial compression wave are changed to investigate the influence of the initial compressure wave form on the peak pressure of impulse wave. The results obtained show that for the initial compression wave of a large wavelength and small pressure gradient the peak pressure of the impulse wave depends upon the wavelength and pressure gradient of compression wave, but for the initial compression wave of a short wavelength and large pressure gradient the peak pressure of the impulse wave is almost constant regardless of the wavelength and pressure gradient of compression wave. The peak pressure of the impulse wave is increased with an increase in the overpressure of the initial compression wave. The results from the numerical ana1ysis are well compared to the results from the aeroacoutics theory with a food agreement.
The main goal of this article is to develop the finite element formulation based on the nonlocal strain gradient and the refined higher-order deformation theory employing a new function f(z) to investigate the static bending and free vibration of functionally graded porous (FGP) nanobeams. The proposed model considers the simultaneous effects of two parameters: nonlocal and strain gradient coefficients. The nanobeam is made by FGP material that exists in un-even and logarithmic-uneven distribution. The governing equation of the nanobeam is established based on Hamilton's principle. The authors use a 2-node beam element, each node with 8 degrees of freedom (DOFs) approximated by the C1 and C2 continuous Hermit functions to obtain the elemental stiffness matrix and mass matrix. The accuracy of the proposed model is tested by comparison with the results of reputable published works. From here, the influences of the parameters: nonlocal elasticity, strain gradient, porosity, and boundary conditions are studied.
In this work, the multiple dynamic absorber( MDA ) is introduced to reduce several vibration modes of shadow mask simultaneously and its design method is developed from the theory of the simple dynamic absorber. When designing the dynamic absorber, there are three significant design parameters such as mass, damping ratio and tuning frequency. Therefore the sensitivity analysis for those parameters has been executed in order to find out the design criteria of multiple dynamic absorber using the finite element model of shadow mask. The multiple dynamic absorber(MDA) designed by the proposed method is tested theoretically and experimentally to estimate the efficiency of vibration reduction. From the results, it is verified that the method is feasible to apply the system having the multiple nitration modes and more efficient than the thin wire-type damper used commercially to reduce the vibration of shadow mask.
