A case study was made on in site vibration velocity data collected for two months in the construction area of the Daeduck cultural City Hall. Taegu The geology over the area shows distributions of weathered and some crack developed hornfels of mud-shale in the upper part, underlain by less weathered and hard compact quartzite. For the period of 2 months of blasting event, the vibration velocities were measured and these data were analysed for K and n for three different period the test period, first month and second month. The data for the test period show that K and n are 2464 and 1.621 with the cube root method, and 7154 and 1.791 with the sqare root one, respectively. The data for the first month collected mostly from blasting in the upper hornfels show that K and n are 1668 and 1,492 for the cube root and 1219 and 1,366 for the square root, respectively. Such a significant decrease in the K and n values from the test period through the first month for the weathered and comparatively well crack developed rocks hard and compact lower quartzite, may be due to difference in attenuation of waves propagating through physically different media. Therefore, for more effective safety design and blasting, it seems that it may be n to adopt appropriate K and n values, with getting lower step by step while proceeding the operation. In the meantime, the attenuation rate of K and n together with SD cross point for the cube and square root methods indicates that the cube root one appears to be more applicable than the square root for this area with limited distance(The maximum is 100m).

Among these satellites, low - orbit small satellites with military characteristics require multi - target observation, and demand for high-resolution photographs and images is increasing. Fast maneuverability is the most important factor for high-resolution images and multi - target observations. However, in the case of a small satellites, it is possible to perform the attitude maneuver if it has high speed, but the residual vibration occurs when the attitude maneuver is completed and the next attitude maneuver is completed. In this study, to verify the vibration characteristics of the plate generated after attitude maneuver, an experimental fixture for simulating the attitude maneuver was fabricated and tested. In addition, Eddy Current Damper (ECD) using Eddy Current Brake system (ECB) is proposed as a passive damping method using permanent magnet to reduce vibration. A mathematical model was established to apply ECD and it was experimentally implemented according to the magnetic flux density and the air gap of the permanent magnet. One plate of four solar panels (plate) was specified, the residual vibration reduction performance after the test was verified experimentally.

Seoul National University flap(SNUF) blade is a small-scale rotor blade incorporating a small trailing-edge flap control surface driven by piezoelectric actuators at higher harmonics for vibration attenuation. Initially, the blade was designed using two-dimensional cross-section analysis and geometrically exact one-dimensional beam analysis, and its material configuration was finalized. A flap-deflection angle of ${\pm}4^{\circ}$ was established as the criterion for enhanced vibration reduction based on an earlier simulation. The flap-linkage mechanism was designed and static bench tests were conducted for verifying the performance of the flap-actuation mechanism. Different versions of test beds were developed and tested with the designed flap and the selected APA 200M piezoelectric actuators. Through significant improvements, a maximum deflection of ${\pm}3.7^{\circ}$ was achieved. High-frequency experiments were conducted for evaluating the performance, and the transfer function of the test bed was determined experimentally. With the static tests almost complete, the rotor power required for testing the blade in a whirl tower (centrifugal environment) was calculated, and further preparations are underway.

Background and Objectives We evaluated the clinical characteristics and vestibular function of patients with direction changing vibration induced nystagmus (DC VIN) and unilateral vestibular hypofunction and suggest clinical implication and a proposed mechanism of DC VIN. Subjects and Method The records of 315 patients who underwent the VIN test were reviewed retrospectively. Among these, 18 patients (5.7%) showed DC VIN, and out of whom, 15 patients (4.8%) were diagnosed as unilateral vestibular hypofunction by caloric, rotation chair (RCT), and video head impulse test (vHIT). We analyzed the relationship between DC VIN and the dizziness characteristics, duration of disease, and the outcome of the vestibular function test. Results The mean age of 15 patients was $67.4{\pm}10.7years$ and the mean duration of dizziness was $13.6{\pm}29.7months$. The caloric test revealed 25% of the patients to have significant canal paresis [Caloric vestibular neuritis (VN)], while 75% showed normal caloric response. However, unilateral vestibular hypofunction was observed by abnormal results in RCT or vHIT (Non-caloric VN). Seven patients showed ipsilateral DC VIN (nystagmus to vibrated side) and eight patients contralateral DC VIN (nystagmus to opposite side of vibration). Patients with ipsilateral DC VIN were shown to have a significant longer duration of dizziness than those with contralateral DC VIN. Conclusion Although rare, DC VIN can also be found in patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction. Patients with DC VIN had a mild vestibular asymmetry with Non-caloric VN or Caloric VN in the process of compensation. The mechanism of ipsilateral DC VIN seems to be due to the small amount of vestibular asymmetry, which is smaller than the interaural attenuation of vibration.
An experimental study was carried out in order to reduce the period and cost of construction of Missiryung tunnel, which is a relatively long one 3.6 km long. An allowable vibration level for curing concrete was established based on the extensive case studies done over the world. and assessment was performed on the possibility of constructing concrete structures like lining during tunnel blasting. Attenuation relationships were obtained by processing more than 130 measurement data from a series of tunnel blasting in the site. A Guideline for safe construction work was suggested. To verification, low small concrete blocks with a constant standoff distance were installed in the floor of the tunnel After the blocks were exposed to blast vibrations for 28 days, compressive strength tests were performed on 20 specimens taken from the blocks. It was shown that the suggested guideline was appropriate for the safe construction work at the site.

In this study, theoretical and experimental analyses were performed for creating and moving the zone of quiet(ZoQ) to the ear location of a sitter by using active sound control technique. As the ZoQ is actively created at the location of the error microphone basically with an active sound control system using an algorithm such as the filtered-x least mean square(FxLMS), the virtual microphone control(VMC) method was considered to move the location of the ZoQ to around the sitter`s ear. A chair system with microphones and loudspeakers on both sides was manufactured for the experiment and thus an active headrest against the swept narrowband noise as the primary noise was implemented with a real-time controller in which the VMC algorithm was embedded. After the control experiment with and without the VMC method, the location variation of the ZoQ by analyzing the error signals measured by the error and the virtual microphones. Therefore, it is observed that the FxLMS with the VMC technique can provide the re-location of the ZoQ from the error microphone location to the virtual microphone location. Also it is found that the amount of the attenuation difference between the two locations was small.
Special track systems used to divert a train to other directions or other tracks are generally called 'railway turnout'. A traditional turnout system consists of steel rails, switches, crossings, steel plates, fasteners, screw spikes, timber bearers, ballast and formation. The wheel rail contact over the crossing transfer zone has a dip-like shape and can often cause detrimental impact loads on the railway track and its components. The large impact also emits disturbing noises (either impact or ground-borne noise) to railway neighbors. In a brown-field railway track where an existing aged infrastructure requires renewal or maintenance, some physical constraints and construction complexities may dominate the choice of track forms or certain components. With the difficulty to seek for high-quality timbers with dimensional stability, a methodology to replace aged timber bearers in harsh dynamic environments is to adopt an alternative material that could mimic responses and characteristics of timber in both static and dynamic loading conditions. A critical review has suggested an application of an alternative material called fibre-reinforced foamed urethane (FFU). The full-scale capacity design makes use of its comparable engineering characteristics to timber, high-impact attenuation, high damping property, and a longer service life. A field trial to investigate in-situ behaviours of a turnout grillage system using an alternative material, 'fibre-reinforced foamed urethane (FFU)' bearers, has been carried out at a complex turnout junction under heavy mixed traffics at Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia. The turnout junction was renewed using the FFU bearers altogether with new special track components. Influences of the FFU bearers on track geometry (recorded by track inspection vehicle 'AK Car'), track settlement (based on survey data), track dynamics, and acoustic characteristics have been measured. Operational train pass-by measurements have been analysed to evaluate the effectiveness of the replacement methodology. Comparative studies show that the use of FFU bearers generates higher rail and sleeper accelerations but the damping capacity of the FFU help suppress vibration transferring onto other track components. The survey data analysis suggests a small vertical settlement and negligible lateral movement of the turnout system. The static and dynamic behaviours of FFU bearers appear to equate that of natural timber but its service life is superior.

Underwater weapon system is required to structurally strong material, since as it is directly exposed to external shock. It should also be using the lightweight material in order to take advantage of buoyancy. Composite materials meet these requirements simultaneously. Particularly in the case of submarine, composite materials are widely used. It is important to have a high strength enough to be able to withstand external shock, but it is also important to attenuate it. In a method for the shock damping, viscoelastic damping materials are inserted between the high strength composite material as a sandwich structure. Shock attenuation can be evaluated in the loss factor. In ASTM(American Society of Testing Materials), evaluation method of the loss factor of cantilever specimens is specified. In this paper, mode tests of the cantilever are performed by the ASTM standard, in order to calculate the loss factor of the viscoelastic damping material by the specified expression. Further, for verifying of the calculated loss factor, mode test of compound beams is carried out. In addition, the characteristics of the material were analyzed the effect on the loss factor.

A coupled room system consists of adjacent rooms and apertures where the sound energy is exchanged between the two rooms. Acoustically, a coupled room system shows a non-exponential decay profile. Most of the related researches have been to analyze the acoustic properties of two-room coupled system so far whereas three-room coupled system were seldom studied. In this regard, this paper aims to analyse the distribution of sound pressure level, sound decay curve of three-room coupled system and sound energy flow between them by using the acoustic diffusion model and to further verify them through experiments. Firstly, the sound pressure level distribution and mean sound pressure level in the steady-state condition are analyzed at various frequencies and source locations. Good agreements are observed in both experiments and analysis results. Secondly, two double slope effect quantifiers of sound attenuation, LDT/EDT and LDT/T10 are compared at various frequencies and for different source locations. The result indicates that LDT/T10, less affected by the early reflection patterns than LDT/EDT, is more suitable to the analysis and experiments of a multi-slope sound decay curve. Lastly, the sound energy flow in each room is analyzed based on the acoustic diffusion model. After the early decay stage, the sound energy is observed to flow from the room with a long reverberation time to the room with a short one.

The shooting noise caused by shooting training, which has strength and impacts, is becoming a serious damage to the residents around the shooting range and, consequently, the number of civil appeals against the shooting noise is on the constant increase. For this reason, the military examines the effects of the shooting noise at the stage of design in constructing a shooting range and tries to build a soundproof shooting range to minimize civil appeals. However, the lack of research and data concerning propagation and attenuation, both of which characterize the shooting noise from within a soundproof shooting range, even makes it so difficult to design a soundproof shooting range in constructing it. So this study used an acoustic simulation in a soundproof shooting range to identify acoustic and propagation characteristics within the shooting range and, on this basis, predicted the noise level at an exit of the soundproof shooting range. As a result, if the form and specifications of a soundproof shooting range were decided on at the stage of design, it was possible to use a simulation to design a soundproof shooting range with optimized acoustic performance and, on this basis, to predict a sound pressure level at an exit of the soundproof shooting range. On the basis of these data, it is probably possible to determine the degree of the effects of the shooting noise on the villages around a shooting range and the extent of damage to it and to minimize civil appeals against the shooting noise and resolve the issues of compensation and agreement with ease. This study is expected to provide useful data for designing and constructing a similar soundproof shooting range.
