세 마리의 소형견이 4단계의 내측 슬개골 탈구로 내원하였다. 세 마리 모두에서 일반적인 기존 수술 방법으로는 슬개골 탈구가 환납되지 않았다. 따라서 슬개골 탈구를 교정하기 위해 대퇴 단축 절골술이 실시되었다. 수술 후에 세 마리 모두 임상 증상이 개선되었고 합병증이나 재발은 확인되지 않았다. 대퇴 단축 절골술은 심한 골격 기형과 관련된 내측 슬개골 탈구가 있는 소형견에서 효과적인 치료 방법으로 고려될 수 있다.

A dog (2-year old, female, Shih-Tzu) presented with hyperthermia and right-sided facial paralysis characterized by the inability to close the right eye and drooling from the right side of the mouth after H3N2 influenza vaccination [A/Canine/Korea/01/07(H3N2) strain; Caniflu-Max, Bionote, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, ROK]. To determine the cause of the fever and neurological symptoms, physical examination, ophthalmic examination, thoracic and abdominal radiography, abdominal ultrasonography, complete blood counts, serum chemistry values, and electrolyte levels were determined. In addition, Cerebrospinal fluid analysis, antinuclear antibody test, fever of unknown origin polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panel, tick-borne pathogen PCR panel were performed. As a result, hyperthermia, leukocytosis, and elevated C-reactive protein were confirmed. In addition, neurological examination revealed decreased right eyelid reflexes, corneal reflexes, threat response, and facial sensation, it was possible to suspect problems with the trigeminal and facial nerves of the cranial nerve. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lesion suggestive of myositis in the right muscular lesion at atlanto-occipital junction level on site of vaccine injection. Therefore, right-sided facial paralysis was tentatively determined to be a secondary cause of nerve damage caused by myositis. The patient was treated with immunosuppressants such as prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil. After 3 months of immunosuppressant therapy, the patient's symptoms improved.

A 3-month-old female mixed breed cat was referred to the veterinary medical teaching hospital of Seoul National University with ocular discharge and blepharospasm of both eyes. On ophthalmic examination, the patient was diagnosed as multiple ocular defects : eyelid coloboma, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, persistent pupillary membrane, uveal cyst, incipient cataract and choroidal hypoplasia. On histopathologic examination, choroidal hypoplasia was confirmed.

An 11-year-old male Rex rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) had a rectal prolapse induced by a polypoid mass. The mass was highly vascularized with a cauliflower-like appearance. Anorectal papilloma was suspected, and fine needle aspiration cytology showed eosinophilic inflammation. After surgical removal of the polyp, postoperative care was given, such as systemic antibiotics and analgesics. In the re-examination, the rabbit was resolved, and there were no complications. Histopathological examination of the removed polyp indicated chronic eosinophilic proctitis to be the cause of the inflammatory condition of the protruding rectal polyp.

A 7-year-old intact female Shih-Tzu with chylothorax was presented. Percutaneous popliteal computed tomographic lymphangiography was performed to evaluate the thoracic duct and seek any potential cause of chylothorax. Despite two attempts, visualization of the thoracic duct failed and perianal subcutaneous computed tomographic lymphangiography with injection of iodinated, nonionic water-soluble contrast medium (0.6 ml/kg) was performed. A single branch of intact thoracic duct and dilated and tortuous lymphatics were detected. It was diagnosed as idiopathic chylothorax. Perianal subcutaneous lymphangiography is considered a less-invasive, easy and reliable method to visualize lymphatics in patients with chylothorax.

A 5-month old Shih Tzu was diagnosed with congenital elbow luxation and uniapical complex angular deformity of the radius. Single radial oblique and dynamic ulnar osteotomies were performed, using patient-specific 3D-printed osteotomy guide. External skeletal fixation was maintained for three weeks to prevent re-luxation of elbow joint. Three months after the surgery, objective gait analysis indicated markedly improved limb function. In addition, radiograph showed improved congruity of elbow joint and appropriate bone healing. In dogs with congenital radial head luxation and concurrent complex angular deformity, a single oblique osteotomy might be a viable option to preserve bone length and correct the luxation of elbow joint.

Two Shih-Tzu dogs with atopic dermatitis presented with delayed periocular dermatitis (PD) following the instillation of dorzolamide and dorzolamide/timolol combination eyedrops; the development of dermatologic signs took 94 and 104 d in cases 1 and 2, respectively. Hypersensitivity to anti-glaucoma eyedrops was highly suspected, and treatment was discontinued. Delayed PD was significantly relieved in cases 1 and 2, at days 155 and 64 after discontinuation, respectively. In this study, the clinical characteristics and progression of delayed PD were described to inform clinicians who may encounter this rare side effect.

Antibiotics are known to be able to cause hypersensitivity reactions through various mechanisms. We present a case of drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia (DITP) and anaphylactic shock occurring simultaneously in a dog after the administration of two classes of antibiotics, namely trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) and amoxicillin-clavulanate (AMC). The patient recovered completely from DITP on discontinuation of TMP-SMX and the anaphylactic shock caused by AMC was treated with intensive care. DITP is a rare adverse drug reaction (ADR), and anaphylactic shock is a life-threatening ADR. This is the first case report of a dog manifesting two types of hypersensitivity reactions caused by two antibiotics.
