Survey on the Korean MCS Systems and Development Issues (국내 MCS 시스템 현황 및 발전 방향)

  • There are several MCS(Monitoring, Control and Surveillance) systems for maritime safety and security in Korea; VMS (Vessel Monitoring System) that based on the AIS(Automatic Identification System), and the LRIT(Long-Range Identification and Tracking), the Vessel Free Pass System that based on the RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification), the Fisheries Information Network that provided by the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives. This paper surveys the fundamental technologies of MCS systems, and compares the role and function of them. It also surveys the development direction of each systems and research topics for cooperation of them.

A Study on the Myocardial of Strain According to Blood Vessels in Echocardiography (심장초음파검사에서 혈관에 따른 심장근육 Strain에 관한 연구)

  • Echocardiography is a widely used test to evaluate the contractility of the heart. However, this exam is cannot be said to be objective because the test relies on the examiner's visual judgment. Therefore, although a lot of efforts are being made to quantify the strain through speckle tracking echocardiography (STE), there are some limitations, and studies of conditions to supplement are needed. Through this study, we determine whether the general characteristics of the subjects affect vessel-specific strain and whether changes in various imaging conditions (general, resolution, compression, gain, chroma) affect vessel-specific strain. According to the results of the study, the general conditions obtained during the examination were generally less significant compared to other conversion conditions, and Resolution, Compress, Gain, Chroma, and LAD showed significant correlations under the Compress conditions (p < .05). Therefore, Accurate strain assessment will be made if echocardiography is analyzed using significant conditions for each stenotic vessel

Decision Making Support System for VTSO using Extracted Ships' Tracks (항적모델 추출을 통한 해상교통관제사 의사결정 지원 방안)

  • Ships' tracking data are being monitored and collected by vessel traffic service center in real time. In this paper, we intend to contribute to vessel traffic service operators' decision making through extracting ships' tracking patterns and models based on these data. Support Vector Machine algorithm was used for vessel track modeling to handle and process the data sets and k-fold cross validation was used to select the proper parameters. Proposed data processing methods could support vessel traffic service operators' decision making on case of anomaly detection, calculation ships' dead reckoning positions and etc.

  • The tracking system plays a key role in accurate estimation and prediction of maneuvering vessel's position and velocity in a bid to enhance safety by taking avoiding action against collision. Therefore, in order to achieve this, many ocean- going vessels are equipped with radar and the ARPA system. However, the accuracy of prediction highly depends on the choice of the gain parameters, ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$ employed in the tracking filter. P revious research of this paper was based on theoretically developing an algorithm for a tracking module. This research paper is hence a continuation by the authors to determine the optimal values of the gain parameters used in the tracking module. A tracking algorithm is developed using the ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter to carry out prediction and smoothing of the positions and velocities. Numerical simulations are then performed to evaluate the optimal values of the smoothing parameters that will improve the performance of the tracking module and reduce measurement noise. The twice distance root mean square (2drms) is then calculated to determine error variation.

Automatic Tracking of Retinal Vessels by Analyzing Local Feature Points in IndoCyanine Green Retinal Images (ICG 망막영상에서 국부적 특징점 분석에 의한 혈관의 자동 추적)

  • During the last few years, the extraction and reconstruction of the blood vessels in the medical image has been actively researched and the analysis for the retinal vessel structure has provided important information for diagnosis and remedy of the retinopathy patients. In this research, we propose the algorithm that tracks automatically the entire retinal vessel in retinal image acquired by the ICG(IndoCyanine Green) technology. This algorithm extracts contours and centers by estimating the local maxima and processing directions and detects bifurcations and junctions by comparing direction components of the local maxima from the gradient magnitude profile of each blood vessel. We present experimental results that the entire blood vessel is automatically reconstructed and is excellent in accuracy and connectivity after applying our algorithm to the ICG retinal images of patients.

  • In this study, a motion control problem for the vessels towed by tugboats or towing ships on the sea is considered. The towed vessel looks like the barge ship, which is used for many purposes. In these vessels, basically, the power propulsion system is not installed but just towed by a towing vessel such as tugboats with ropes and wires. It means that the motions of towed vessel are basically dependent on the tracking route of towing boat. Therefore, in some cases, undesirable and unpredictable motions may be made by environmental factors such as wave, wind attack and so on. As a result, a collision accident with others may occur during maneuvering situation. Based on these facts, the authors try to encourage the steering performance of the towed vessel by using controllable rudders without any propulsion system. In this study, especially, a controllable vessel with three rudders is considered, and a mathematical model is induced for the future study. The model is described as surge, sway motion and inertia moment by following the general representation method for the surface ship.

  • This paper addresses the trajectory tracking problem for ship berthing by using sliding mode technique. With significant potential advantages: insensitivity to plant nonlinearities, parameter variations, remarkable stability and robust performance with environmental disturbances, the multivariable sliding modes controller is proposed for solving trajectory tracking of ship in harbor area. In this study, the ship position and heading angle are simultaneously tracked to guarantees that the ship follows a given path (geometric task) with desired velocities (dynamic task). The stability of the proposed control law is proved based on Lyapunov theory. The proposed approach has been simulated on a computer model of a supply vessel with good results.

Evaluation and management of work process in dredger using ECDIS (ECDIS에 의한 준설선의 작업공정 관리 및 평가)

  • This paper describes on the evaluation and management of work process in suction hopper dredger and grab bucket dredger as an application of a PC-based ECDIS system. The dynamic tracking of dredging bucket and the data logging of grab dredging information were performed by using the grab dredging vessel "Kunwoong G-18". The position and route tracking of the dredger moving toward the ocean dumping site of dredged material was performed by using the hopper dredging vessel "Samyang-7". The evaluation of wok process in the dredging field, for grab dredger, was continuously carried out on January to May, 2006, in Incheon Hang and for hopper dredger, on July to December, 2003, in Busan Hang, Korea. The dredging information, such as dredger's position, heading, dredging depth and route track which was individually time stamped during the dredging operation, was automatically processed in real-time on the ECDIS and displayed simultaneously on the S-57 ENC chart. From these results, we conclude that the ECDIS system can be applied as a tool in order to manage the work process during the dredging operation, and also in order to generate the factual record of the dredging activities that is sufficient for dredging inspector to accurately evaluate the contract performance even in the absence of a full-time onboard inspector.
